Utah Jazz @ Detroit Pistons

Vegas Total: 218

Vegas Spread: Utah -7.5

We kick the day off with a little two-game early slate, so let’s get cookin’! Starting with the Jazz, Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell come into this one looking like pretty solid options. They’re both in play against a defense that is still figuring itself out. Mitchell is coming off a 50 burger last time 0ut and is a solid start again here. Mike Conley’s price seems a bit high for me especially considering his recent production. Bojan Bogdanovic bounced back nicely last game but has been really hit or miss this season, he’s pretty GPP only for me. Lastly, the trio of Jordan Clarkson, Royce O’Neale, and Joe Ingles are all deep GPP guys for me, nobody that I’ll really get to much. O’Neale looked great last game but he took advantage of what the Bucks were giving him and went 6-8 from three-point range. From the Pistons, Blake Griffin returned and played 40 minutes last game. I wouldn’t expect that to be the norm and in a tough matchup, I don’t love him. That said, it’s a short slate so you can make a case for him. Jerami Grant has proved me wrong this season, he’s playing massive minutes and playing well in them. He has back to back 42+ DraftKings points per game in three straight. Mason Plumlee got his minutes back last game and they’ll need his size out there to guard Gobert, he’s a solid play as well. Lastly, Derrick Rose is a usage monster, and he saw a big day last time out, he’s a nice option again here if he plays.

5-star play: Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Jerami Grant

4-star play: Mike Conley, Blake Griffin, Mason Plumlee

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Jordan Clarkson, Royce O’Neale, Joe Ingles, Derrick Rose

Chicago Bulls @ Los Angeles Clippers

Vegas Total: 222

Vegas Spread: Lac -11.0

Starting with the Bulls,  Lauri Markkanen and Tomas Satoransky are out tonight due to Covid protocols. To add to that, Otto Porter is now doubtful as well so there is some value to come with this team. Zach LaVine has at least 40 DraftKings points in four straight games and is someone I don’t mind going right back to here even at an elevated price tag and a tough matchup. Coby White came back down to Earth last game and in a tough matchup he’s not someone I’ll prioritize but due to it being a two-game slate he’s certainly in play. I touched on the wings being light on this team due to injuries/Covid protocols so you should expect to see Patrick Williams and Thad Young vaulted into large minutes here and are really nice options. Lastly, Wendell Carter gets a pretty decent matchup against the Clippers I don’t hate him for GPPs. From the Clippers, Kawhi Leonard had a down game the past couple of times out but Paul George continues to play well. In a good matchup, both seem to be good options here. Serge Ibaka has had back-to-back great games and is someone you can go back to on a short slate. I’m off Nic Batum here with Marcus Morris back, although he did see 30 minutes again last time out while Morris has seen 18 minutes in both his games back, those minutes will come up at some point.

5-star play: Zach LaVine, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George

4-star play: Patrick Williams, Thad Young, Serge Ibaka

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Coby White, Nic Batum, Wendell Carter

Main Slate:

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Brooklyn Nets

Vegas Total: 225.5

Vegas Spread: Bkn -8.5

Starting the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander now has back to back 50 point fantasy outings. He’s a guy that I said last time out we can chase these points on him while he’s hot. He’s young and raw so he’s going to be streaky. It’s a nice matchup for him and I don’t mind the price, he’s a nice play for tournaments at the very least. Darius Bazley’s minutes came way down last game and only saw 14 DraftKings points after having a really good past few games. I don’t mind going back to him here in a good spot. We haven’t seen the ceiling from Al Horford like I’ve wanted to see so he’s really not in play for me until we see that come. Lastly, George Hill makes sense as a mid-range option if you need one. From the Nets, it sounds like we will get Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving back here so we can stop playing these turds on the Nets. Both guys are elite plays in a matchup where the Thunder won’t be able to stop them. You can jump off the Caris LeVert train with these guys back, it’s not that I hate him, but he’s priced for these guys being out yet. Jarrett Allen continues to play well, you can make a case for him in a good matchup. Lastly, Joe Harris makes sense for GPP as well in hopes he gets hot from three.

5-star play: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving

4-star play: Darius Bazley, Jarrett Allen, Joe Harris

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Darius Bazley, Caris LeVert, Joe Harris, Jarrett Allen

Denver Nuggets @ New York Knicks

Vegas Total: 215.5

Vegas Spread: Den -5.5

Starting with the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic seems like an obvious option here. The Knicks will have all sorts of issues holding him down in the paint. He’s priced up but it’s hard to ignore Jokic in this one. Jamal Murray’s minutes came down to 29 minutes last game. Although they didn’t exactly need him in yesterday’s matchup against the Sixers G-League team. He’s a nice GPP option, but a little too volatile for me in cash games. Will Barton will continue to be a guy I have an interest in as long as Michael Porter is out. Lastly, Monte Morris and Paul Millsap both make sense for GPPs here. From the Knicks,  it’s hard to stomach the price on Julius Randle but the production has more than justified it. He’s pretty safe as well due to the number of minutes he’s getting. That being said, this is a really difficult matchup for him with Millsap and Jokic holding down the paint. He’s more GPP than anything for me. I don’t love the price on RJ Barrett, and it’s a similarly tough matchup for him. That said, he’s going to continue to play around 40 minutes per game and it’s hard for me to ignore a guy that’s going to be out there that much. Alec Burks is out again here so Elfrid Payton is in play and has triple-double upside every time he steps on the court.

5-star play: Nikola Jokic

4-star play: Jamal Murray, Will Barton, Julius Randle, RJ Barrett

Deeper Value: Reggie Bullock

GPP Sleeper: Monte Morris, Paul Millsap, Elfrid Payton, Mitchell Robinson

Miami Heat @ Boston Celtics

Vegas Total: 212

Vegas Spread: Mia -6.5

Starting with the Heat, Bam Adebayo scored 44.5 DraftKings points in this matchup earlier this week. The Celtics struggle with big men so this is a spot I’m willing to go right back to him. Jimmy Butler went nuts last night for 59.5 DraftKings points in 36 minutes. I’ll go right back to well, his price went down $100, so he’s firmly in play for me. I keep telling myself I’m off Tyler Herro until his price comes down and then he goes out and scored 44 DraftKings points like he did last night. He’s GPP only for me, the same can be said for Goran Dragic. Lastly, Duncan Robinson is always in play for GPPs due to his ability to get hot from beyond the arc. The Celtics are a mess right now after Jayson Tatum found himself in some Covid issues. Tatum is doubtful while Jaylen Brown is questionable. For now, I’ll assume Brown is in but Tatum is out. Below is how the Celtics grade out with Tatum off the court this season.

  • Jaylen Brown – 32.1% usage rate; 1.27 fpm
  • Marcus Smart – 20.7% usage rate; 0.65 fpm
  • Daniel Theis – 15.5% usage rate; 0.94 fpm

Things are going to get tricky with the Celtics with Tatum out, along with Tristan Thompson, Robert Williams, and Grant Williams out as well. We should see extended minutes for guys like Daniel Theis, Semi Ojeleye, and even Tacko Fall who saw 19 minutes last time out. Keep an eye out for a starting lineup from them and jump in our VIP Coaching forums for updates on who exactly are the guys you want to get to here.

5-star play: Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, Jaylen Brown

4-star play: Tyler Herro, Goran Dragic, Marcus Smart, Daniel Theis

Deeper Value: Tacko Fall

GPP Sleeper: Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro, Goran Dragic, Tacko Fall, Payton Pritchard, Jeff Teague

Los Angeles Lakers @ Houston Rockets

Vegas Total: 224.5

Vegas Spread: Lal -3.5

Starting the Lakers, I would expect LeBron James and Anthony Davis are both questionable again here, as usual. For the sake of this article, I’ll operate under the assumption that they’re both in. This is a great matchup for both guys. The Rockets play next to zero defense, and both should be able to do what they want here. Anthony Davis was out last game and LeBron went for just 45.3 DraftKings points. Regardless, they’re both nice options. Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell make some sense in GPPs as well due to the matchup. From the Rockets, James Harden has scored under 50 DraftKings points in three straight games. John Wall and Christian Wood have taken some of his usage but he still has one of the highest upsides on the slate. Christian Wood returned last game and scored 48.25 DraftKings points, you can go right back to him here even in a tough matchup against Anthony Davis and company. John Wall has been up and down over the past handful of games and I think that’s what we’re going to expect from him this season so he’s more of a GPP guy for me. Lastly, Eric Gordon and DeMarcus Cousins are fine options for GPPs as well.

5-star play: LeBron James, Anthony Davis, James Harden

4-star play: Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, John Wall, Christian Wood

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Eric Gordon, DeMarcus Cousins, John Wall

San Antonio Spurs @ Minnesota Timberwolves

Vegas Total: 233.5

Vegas Spread: Sas -3.5

We saw this matchup last time out so we have something to work off here. Starting with the Spurs, DeMar DeRozan dropped a 50 burger on these guys last night and his price went down, he’s a solid play yet again. Dejounte Murray also dropped 50 on the Wolves, he played 41 minutes due to this game going to OT, but he’s a nice play regardless due to the Wolves defense. Keldon Johnson bounced back nicely last night on his way to 37.25 DraftKings points. You can go right back to him again here. LaMarcus Aldridge is just not a guy I’m getting to this season, he’s had maybe one good game? The Wolves are a good matchup but I just think there are better options on this slate. From the Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns returned last night and played 37 minutes after they said he was going to have his minutes monitored, so yeah that wasn’t true. He dropped 54.25 DraftKings points, he’s an elite option at under $10k here. Juancho Hernangomez started again last night but only scored 13 DraftKings points in 23 minutes, he’s more of a GPP guy with Towns now back. D’Angelo Russell’s minutes got to 38 last night due to the overtime period and you know I want to target point guards against the Spurs, so this is a spot I’m going to attack pretty heavily. Malik Beasley, Ricky Rubio, and Anthony Edwards are all GPP guys but that’s about it.

5-star play: D’Angelo Russell, DeMar DeRozan, Karl-Anthony Towns

4-star play: Dejounte Murray, Malik Bealey

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Keldon Johnson, Juancho Hernangomez, Malik Beasley, Ricky Rubio, Anthony Edwards

Toronto Raptors @ Golden State Warriors

Vegas Total: 233.5

Vegas Spread: Tor -3.0

Starting with the Raptors, Pascal Siakam has had back-to-back 50 point fantasy outings, however, Kyle Lowry missed the last game so I’m not going to look too much into that one. People may begin to chase these points and if that’s the case I’ll be lower on him. Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet are pretty similar plays here, they’re both getting big minutes and they’re priced very similarly. VanVleet has shown the higher ceiling as of late and has at least 50 DraftKings points in three of his last four games, so if you’re picking one, he’s the guy. OG Anunoby has seen his production fall off a bit after starting the season pretty hot. You can get to him here in a good matchup. The only issue with him at this price is he really needs to shoot well to hit value. He does rack up some peripherals on defense though that do give you an out and some upside. Lastly, Chris Boucher appears to have grabbed the center minutes for this team, he’s a nice point per minute player and someone I don’t hate getting to in a good matchup against a bad defensive Warriors frontcourt. From the Warriors, if people are just going to continue not playing Steph Curry I’ll just print money on my own I guess. He came in at 0.33% ownership last time out and dropped 68 DraftKings points. Now on a short slate, he won’t be that low owned, but he’s shooting with so much volume that it’s hard to ignore. Outside of Curry, I have a hard time getting to anyone else on this team in anything other than tournaments due to their volatility. Andrew Wiggins is questionable here so that’s news we’ll have to keep an eye on. Lastly, I guess you can make a case for Draymond Green, he’s gotten back to back games with 31 minutes. My only issue with him is he’s not a big usage guy so you kind of need to fall into those peripheral stats. I do like the price tag though.

5-star play: Fred VanVleet, Steph Curry

4-star play: Pascal Siakam, Kyle Lowry, Chris Boucher, Draymond Green

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: OG Anunoby, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre, James Wiseman

NBA Lock of the Day: Dejounte Murray (DK – $6.8k; FD – $6.6k)

Last night we locked in Trey Burke and he went for 40 DraftKings points at min price, so let’s keep the heat rolling tonight. I’m going to go back to that Spurs game that we so go to overtime last night. Dejounte Murray dropped 51.5 DraftKings points in 41 minutes last night. The Timberwolves aren’t playing much of any defense so I don’t think another huge game is out of the question. He’s under priced in my eyes, at $6.8k he’s averaging 36.9 DraftKings points per game on the season which is over 5x. The Research Station below has him projected for 37.29 fantasy points which would put him at 5.48x his DraftKings price tag. Tweet me (@MadnessDFS) your lock predictions and if your player gets over 5x tonight I’ll give you a shoutout on Twitter, let’s have some fun with this!
