Hey, Guys Brewzer here! This article will be a “Deep” Dive into some of the statistics that are very important to learn, the ones that give you an edge in the daily grind of NBA basketball. These six stats I will be teaching you today are extremely useful for finding the BEST-MATCHUPS of the day, on a given NBA slate.
Points in the Paint, or PITP
“Points In The Paint” are all the points that the team scores in the painted area near the rim on each side of the basketball court. If a team gives up a lot of points in the paint, you usually want the opposing main scorer, or opposing Center/Forward. This is an important stat to know in NBA fantasy sports. If a team is able to dominate down low, it will usually translate to more points and assists for everyone on the team, too. Some players only score traditional buckets, or get a majority of their points in the paint. So this is very useful combined with the knowledge of how certain players score their points.
Fast Break Points per game, or FBPG
The “Fastbreak Points” statistic is what it sounds like, points that are scored fast…from transition. The real reason why fast break points are so effective, is they make it so that the defense is outnumbered and does not have time to set up defensively before the basket is scored. Max pressure leads to faster paces and more points. Teams who accumulate a lot of fast break points also tend to run the risk of turning the ball over more often than a team that walks the ball up the court more methodically. But, high risk, high reward!
2nd Chance Points per Game
The 2nd Chance Points per Game stat is used to describe any points scored during a possession by the offense after an offensive player has already attempted a shot and missed. This statistic is very useful to find matchups where centers can thrive on put-back baskets. Some correlation can also be drawn from players accumulating a lot of rebounds leading to these easy buckets….sort of double dipping the stat with a rebound + basket.
Points off Turnovers
Points off Turnovers are all points coming from a team after a player steals the ball from the opposing team. Steal the ball… Score a bucket… Seems easy enough…
Both of these next two statistics are mainly weighted on which site that you play. Fanduel and Draftkings have slightly different scoring for both blocks and steals. For Fanduel, you get +3 Points for blocks and steals, versus DraftKings where you only get +2 points per block/steal. Although blocks and steals are good on DraftKings at 2 points, They are a little more important to your daily process if you play on FanDuel with them being worth 3 points.

Blocks & Steals Per Game
I honestly shouldn’t have to tell you what a block or a steal is at this point of the season but these stats sure do add up in terms of fantasy points. So if a team gives up a bunch of blocked shots, or steals per game to the opposing team, you want to make sure you have exposure to that.
