Detroit Pistons @ Atlanta Hawks
Vegas Total: 224.5
Vegas Spread: Atl -9.5
We kick off this Monday slate with what should be a fun one. Neither of these teams plays a whole lot of defense so it should be solid for DFS purposes. From the Pistons, it sounds like Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose will both be out here which will open up minutes and usage for the rest of this team. One player that should see a nice bump is Jerami Grant who dropped a 50 burger last time out. He played an insane 42 minutes and should be in that 35-40 minute range again here. Mason Plumlee now has back to back games with 30+ minutes, he’s a nice option again here, he’s always been a nice point per minute guy but never really got the opportunity that he does now. Delon Wright should see a major bump with Rose out, he played 42 minutes last time out and is a great option here. Lastly, Josh Jackson’s minutes fell last time out, but with Griffin out, he should be back up to around 30 minutes, he’s a nice play here. From the Hawks, it sounds like Clint Capela will be good to go here while Danilo Gallinari is questionable. Capela gets a nice matchup against a terrible Pistons team, he’s a solid option here. John Collins has yet to see 30 minutes this season which seems odd considering the minutes he was seeing last year, he’s more of a GPP guy for me. Trae Young should be able to do whatever he wants here and has at least 50 fantasy points in each of his first two games. Lastly, Bogdan Bogdanovic feels too cheap here and is a guy I like at that price range. The rest of this team is more GPP options than anything else.
5-star play: Jerami Grant, Mason Plumlee, Delon Wright, Trae Young
4-star play: Josh Jackson, Clint Capela, John Collins
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter, John Collins
Memphis Grizzlies @ Brooklyn Nets
Vegas Total: 232
Vegas Spread: Bkn -6
Starting with the Nets, we just got news that Spencer Dinwiddie has a partially torn ACL and will need to miss some time here. It will be interesting to see who benefits most from this but my assumption is that LeVert is the biggest benefactor. That said, with Durant in the mix we can’t really run last year’s usage numbers because they’ll be skewed. So, this will be a wait and see type of approach, but my initial thoughts are that LeVert is the winner off the bench here. Kyrie Irving came back down to Earth after having a huge game on Christmas, he’s a solid play in what should be one of the better games on the slate for DFS purposes. We do need to keep an eye on Kevin Durant who is currently questionable due to this being a back-to-back. If he sits, the rest of this starting lineup would get a boost, but more to come on that. The only other player I have much interest in here is Caris LeVert off the bench but that’s GPP only. From the Grizzlies, Ja Morant has a nice price here and should be able to put up some points, I like running him with Kyrie and possibly LeVert if Durant needs to miss and get some correlation going for GPPs. Centers against the Nets is still going to be something I’m targeting this season, so Jonas Valanciunas is a solid play here. Other than those two, it’s really just Dillon Brooks for GPPs to round things out.
5-star play: Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Ja Morant
4-star play: Caris LeVert, Jonas Valanciunas, Dillon Brooks
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Dillon Brooks, Joe Harris

Utah Jazz @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Vegas Total: 218
Vegas Spread: Utah -8.5
Starting with the Jazz, both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell will be solid plays here and are priced pretty evenly. The Thunder won’t play any kind of defense this season as they rebuild for the future. They’re both solid options. Mike Conley feels appropriately priced so I don’t know how much meat on the bone there is there, he’s more of a secondary option in all formats. The minutes are there for Bojan Bogdanovic but he’s shooting terribly in the first two games. If ownership will be down on him I like him a good deal here in hopes he gets out of his little funk and starts knocking down some shots. From the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is someone I’m going to get a lot of this season, but this just isn’t a great matchup for anyone on this team due to the defense that the Jazz play. He’s a GPP option at best, the same can be said for Al Horford and Darius Bazley.
5-star play: None
4-star play: Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, Bojan Bogdanovic
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Mike Conley, Jordan Clarkson, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Al Horford, Darius Bazley
Houston Rockets @ Denver Nuggets
Vegas Total: 222
Vegas Spread: Den -6.5
Starting with the Rockets, John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, and Eric Gordon will be out again as they are in seven-day quarantine. So we can go right back to the well as last time out. David Nwaba drew the start over Sterling Brown, so I would expect the same here, he’s a nice value option. James Harden scored 79 DraftKings points in 43 minutes, he’s going to get all the usage in this offense and is probably the best raw option on the slate. Christian Wood saw his price bounce up, as it should have, he scored 53.75 DraftKings points in 44 minutes last time out. It’s a tough matchup but I like going right back to the well on these Rockets guys. From the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic is playing huge minutes and with a great matchup against Christian Wood, he’s an elite option and one of my favorite plays on the slate. I like the price on Jamaal Murray but we know how volatile he can be, he’s more of a GPP option but I wouldn’t rule him out for cash on a shorter slate tonight. Michael Porter, Will Barton, and Paul Millsap are all GPP options as well, it’s a nice matchup so I like taking chances on these guys.
5-star play: James Harden, Christian Wood, Nikola Jokic
4-star play: Danuel House, David Nwaba, Michael Porter, Jamaal Murray
Deeper Value: David Nwaba
GPP Sleeper: Michael Porter, Will Barton, Paul Millsap

Portland Trailblazers @ Los Angeles Lakers
Vegas Total: 225
Vegas Spread: Lal -3.5
I’ll start with the Lakers because we really need some news on them before we begin to analyze them. Anthony Davis sat the first half of the back-to-back set last night and is questionable here. LeBron James seems like a solid rest candidate considering he played yesterday and in a condensed offseason I think we’re going to see a lot of rest on back-to-backs especially on these stars who went deep into the postseason. So keep an eye on the news from the Lakers and jump in our VIP coaching forums for updates and breakdowns on who they impact most. From the Blazers, CJ McCollum went bonkers against the Rockets last time out, but if people are going to chase those points I’ll likely fade or at least be under the field. Damian Lillard had a nice game in that one as well, I don’t know how much I’ll get of him here just because I like other guys in that price tier more but he’s solid for GPPs. Jusuf Nurkic played 35 minutes last time out which was nice to see, he’s a good point per minute contributor so I like him a good amount here.
5-star play: LeBron James, Anthony Davis (if playing), Damian Lillard
4-star play: Jusuf Nurkic, CJ McCollum
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, CJ McCollum, Robert Covington

NBA Lock of the Day: Delon Wright (DK – $4.6k; FD – $4.2k)
The Pistons will be shorthanded tonight with both Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose out. Delon Wright should slide in and handle the point guard duties and see a usage increase. We know he can be a good point per minute contributor from his Memphis days, but last time out he saw 42 minutes on his way to 35 DraftKings points. The Research Station below has him projected for 6.43x his DraftKings price tag giving him a 29 point fantasy projection which seems even a little low in my opinion. I’ll have a hard time avoiding him tonight. Tweet me (@MadnessDFS) your lock predictions and if your player gets over 5x tonight I’ll give you a shoutout on Twitter, let’s have some fun with this!
