New Orleans Pelicans @ Miami Heat
Vegas Total: 224
Vegas Spread: Mia -4.0
I’ll start by saying Merry Christmas! Glad we can have some normalcy here and have a full slate of NBA games on Christmas day, if you ask me it’s the best DFS day of the year. We’ll tip things off with the Pelicans who will face a tough defense in the Miami Heat. There really isn’t a ton that I love on the Pels, my favorite play would be Eric Bledsoe, who I ended up getting quite a bit of on Wednesday night late. He looks like he’s finally going to get good minutes now that he’s not stuck under coach Budenholzer. The rest of this team is pretty much just GPP options for me. From the Heat, there are some pieces we can get to here due to the Pels fast pace and poor defense. Tyler Herro looks like a good option here at a reasonable price tag. He scored 25 DraftKings points on Wednesday night but saw 32 minutes which is the key for me. Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler both had 44 DraftKings points against the Magic on Wednesday, I like Bam a bit more than Butler here due to the price differential. Lastly, Duncan Robinson and Goran Dragic make for fine GPP options.
5-star play: Bam Adebayo
4-star play: Eric Bledsoe, Tyler Herro
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Jimmy Butler, Duncan Robinson, Goran Dragic
Golden State Warriors @ Milwaukee Bucks
Vegas Total: 232
Vegas Spread: Mil -10.5
This game has the highest total on the slate but also the largest spread with the Bucks favored by 10.5. We’ll get things started with the Warriors, James Wiseman played really well in his NBA debut going for 30 DraftKings points in 24 minutes, but he saw a massive price boost on DraftKings. I don’t love the price in this matchup. Eric Pascall saw the start for Draymond Green but was terrible in 22 minutes of action, while Marquese Chriss and Juan Toscano-Anderson outplayed him. Draymond will be out again here and with the price uptick on Paschall, I’ll pass on him. Chriss makes the most sense for me at this position on the Warriors but really only a GPP option due to his volatility. Other than that, Steph Curry saw a price increase while Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre saw a decrease. All feel like GPP options more than anything here. From the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo looks to be one of the best plays on the slate. It’s a cakewalk of a defensive matchup for him and should be able to do whatever he pleases. The Research Station below has him projected for nearly 6x, he’s an elite option.

Khris Middleton had a massive night on opening night going for 58.5 DraftKings points in 38 minutes. I don’t know that we should expect that kind of minutes from him, but if so, he’s going to have a huge year. This is another nice spot for him. Jrue Holiday looked good in his Bucks debut as well, I like his price tag a bit less than Middleton but he’s in play for GPP as well. Donte DiVincenzo looked great in 27 minutes of playing time, he’s a nice mid-range option. You can make a case for Bobby Portis as a value option, he may get some blowout run here, while Brook Lopez rounds the team out as a GPP option.
5-star play: Giannis Antetokounmpo
4-star play: Steph Curry, Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, Donte DiVincenzo
Deeper Value: Bobby Portis
GPP Sleeper: Marquese Chriss, Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre, Brook Lopez

Brooklyn Nets @ Boston Celtics
Vegas Total: 227
Vegas Spread: Bkn -3.5
The Nets looked pretty damn good on opening night, but then again it was the Warriors and their putrid defense. Caris LeVert looked really good off the bench going for 45 DraftKings points. He’s going to get all the usage on that second unit, that said, his price did go up a good amount and this Celtics defense is much better than the Warriors so more of a GPP option than anything. Both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant saw just 25 minutes on opening night but that was due to blowout, I’ll gladly go back to them here, they both look up to speed already. From the Celtics, Jaylen Brown had a huge night on Wednesday going for 52.75 DraftKings points, I’ll go right back to the well with him here. Jayson Tatum had a solid night as well in a tough matchup, he’ll likely see Kevin Durant after seeing Giannis on defense last time out, talk about tough luck. He’s more than in play here with that said. Jeff Teague looked really good and played 25 minutes. With Kemba Walker still out he may be the go-to on this team for point guard minutes, he’s a nice value option.
5-star play: Kevin Durant, Jaylen Brown, Jeff Teague
4-star play: Kyrie Irving, Jayson Tatum
Deeper Value: Jeff Teague
GPP Sleeper: Caris LeVert, Marcus Smart
Dallas Mavericks @ Los Angeles Lakers
Vegas Total: 227.5
Vegas Spread: Lal -6.5
This should be a pretty easy game to breakdown, as both teams really funnel all their usage to their stars. Luka Doncic had a pretty standard fantasy game in his terms last time out, his price went up but I think he comes to play on the big stage against the defending champs. Other than him there isn’t a ton I like on this team. The Research Station likes Maxi Kleber as a value option so you can make a case for him but that’s about it for me. The Lakers are a similar story, all the usage is going to Anthony Davis and LeBron James. They feel like very similar plays at very similar price tags, in a good matchup they’re both very solid options, however, I think I would prefer Giannis in this tier. Other than those two, Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell both had big nights on opening night and make for nice GPP options in a pretty good matchup.
5-star play: Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Anthony Davis
4-star play: Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell
Deeper Value: Maxi Kleber
GPP Sleeper: Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, Josh Richardson

Los Angeles Clippers @ Denver Nuggets
Vegas Total: 222
Vegas Spread: Lac -2.5
From the Clippers, Paul George had a nice day last time out but saw a big price bump and now faces a really tough defense in the Nuggets. I’ll probably feel more comfortable with him in GPPs. Nicolas Batum should continue to start while Marcus Morris is out, he played 28 minutes last time out and is capable of stuffing the stat sheet. He’s not a fun player to watch, but if you need someone in this range you could do worse. Kawhi Leonard saw a price increase as well, I just think I’d rather find the money for someone like Luka, Giannis, or one of the Lakers guys. From the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic went bonkers on Wednesday night and the Clippers are a team I love targeting with big men, he’s an elite option here. Michael Porter had a big night as well and is going to be streaky this season, as we kind of saw last year. He’s young and raw, but the kid can play. Lastly, I don’t love the price on Jamaal Murray but we know the ceiling that comes with him and I think Paul Millsap is a bit underpriced and makes sense in this matchup.
5-star play: Nikola Jokic
4-star play: Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Michael Porter, Paul Millsap
Deeper Value: Nicolas Batum
GPP Sleeper: Paul George, Jamaal Murray, Michael Porter
NBA Lock of the Day: Jeff Teague (DK – $4.2k; FD – $5.8k)
I’ll start by stating this is more of a DraftKings play than a FanDuel play due to the price difference amongst the sites. There really isn’t a ton of value on this slate and I think Teague helps make your lineups work. He looked really good on opening night going for 36.75 DraftKings points in 25 minutes. With Kemba Walker out he should see good run and I don’t think the public or his price have caught up on him. There’s an outside chance that the Celtics vault him into the starting lineup, but honestly, I’d prefer him off the bench to soak up some more usage. Regardless, his price is going to make things work, and is a guy that I like quite a bit here. Tweet me (@MadnessDFS) your lock predictions and if your player gets over 5x tonight I’ll give you a shoutout on Twitter, let’s have some fun with this!
