Utah Jazz @ New Orleans Pelicans

Vegas Total: 222.5

Vegas Spread: Utah -1.5

Starting with the Utah Jazz, it will be interesting to see the team chemistry from the Jazz after the whole COVID incident that started with Rudy Gobert. My initial reaction would be that they’re good to go now that they’ve settled into the bubble, but only time will tell. The big difference with this Utah team is that Bojan Bogdanovic will be out for the rest of the season, meaning more minutes for guys like Royce O’Neale, Jordan Clarkson, and Joe Ingles. My favorite of the three in this spot is Jordan Clarkson, he’ll actually make my Core 4 article for this slate on DraftKings. He’s far too cheap at $4.2k and has a Research Station value projection of 6x, he’ll get some extra shot opportunities with Bojan out and I expect him to come through. Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert are very similar plays at different positions, they have similar price tags and I expect similar fantasy outcomes, they’re both solid options on a short slate. The thing I like most about the Jazz is the pace up spot they get against a fast Pelicans team. They’ll see a +5.8 point pace increase, courtesy of the Research Station.

From the Pelicans, the Zion Williamson show in Orlando will begin. The Research Station loves him with a 5.7x projection on him, I’m not sold on it yet with a difficult matchup with Gobert in the paint, that said, I’ll do some more digging here because I do think there’s some upside here. The rest of this lineup is priced about right to me, JJ Redick makes sense as a salary saver at sub $4k, while guys like Lonzo Ball, Jrue Holiday, and Brandon Ingram feel priced about right, Ingram may even be a little expensive.

5-star play: Jordan Clarkson, Zion Williamson, Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert

4-star play: Jrue Holiday, Brandon Ingram, Joe Ingles

Deeper Value: JJ Redick, Josh Hart

GPP Sleeper: JJ Redick, Josh Hart, Mike Conley

Los Angeles Lakers @ Los Angeles Clippers

Vegas Total: 220.5

Vegas Spread: Lac -1.5

“Opening” night includes the battle of Los Angeles… in Orlando! We’ll start with the Lakers, the Clippers are an incredible defensive unit so nothing will come easy on the offensive end. Keep an eye on Anthony Davis here, he said he plans on playing but if he’s ultimately ruled out, LeBron James becomes a lock on a two-game slate. That said, it does sound like he’ll play, making both he and LeBron solid plays here. The Lakers will be without Avery Bradley for the rest of the season as he as decided to sit out due to Coronavirus concerns. He was playing 24.2 minutes per game this season and played 27.6 minutes per game over their last ten games. He was a key part of their rotation and will open up minutes for the ancillary pieces. Danny Green grades out as a nice punt play in that same price range as JJ Redick and Josh Hart, of the three I would prefer Green as he’ll have a bigger role on this team. The rest of this team is pretty much just deeper GPP plays due to the usage that LeBron and Davis command. From the Clippers, both Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell will be out for this game which hurts their depth a decent amount. Of all relevant players, JaMychal Green actually sees the biggest usage increase at +5.6%, but he’s not exactly a guy that I’ll have a whole lot of interest in. It will just mean more shots and minutes for the big guys in Paul George and Kawhi Leonard and the secondary guys such as Patrick Beverley, Marcus Morris, and Reggie Jackson. Beverley is really cheap but doesn’t have a great And1 rating and not quite sure he kills you if you fade him and he has a ceiling game. That said, I would prefer him over the more expensive Reggie Jackson. Pretty much the only guys on this team that I’m targeting right now (the day before) are Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Patrick Beverley.

5-star play: Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George

4-star play: Danny Green, Patrick Beverley

Deeper Value: Danny Green, Joakim Noah

GPP Sleeper: Marcus Morris, Reggie Jackson
