Welcome to rebel DFS! We are all tired of staring at the same 4 walls and hopefully the alcohol rations haven’t run out. I might need a packie run myself. Today’s installment is the Fanduel DFS Horse Racing slate. We are back for another day of the hottest new DFS contest based off live action. I can’t wait to see what today brings.
Before we get into the slate lets cover a few basics. The slate consists of 12 races at Gulfstream Park. We want to pick as many horses that will finish in the top 4 of each race, although ideally win. A few terms to cover that I might use are:
- Beyer Speed – Relative speed of the horse for the race, track, and vs other horses.
- Win – self-explanatory.
- Place – 2nd
- Show – 3rd
- Underneath – finishing in 3rd or 4
- Bounce – couple different ways this could go but the most common is that it ran too fast and had too hard a race the previous time out that it cannot return anything close to a normal ride this time out. I’ll explain other scenarios when I see them or in slack, if you like.
- Inside post – posts 1 to 3
- Middle post – posts 4 to 7
- Outside post – posts 8 or higher
Anything else will be explained on the fly. I will make recommendations for each race but you are free to deviate as you see fit. The weather looks good and I expect the races to, largely, go off as advertised. Make sure to grab a racing form from your favorite betting site and dig in.
Mister announcer guy, call it out…
Aaaaaaand They’re Off!
Race 1
We’re starting off the day with a 1 mile trip on the turf. Typical winning beyer is about 74. The weather looks to be pretty good and I expect the race to be on the turf.
Turf
- (2) Mayito – the best of the bunch by my estimation and dropping in class. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- (9) Traffic Trouble – I think this horse and the 10 battle it out for 2nd and 3rd. ⭐⭐
- (10) Sweet Giant – I think this horse and the 9 horse battle it out for 2nd and third. ⭐⭐⭐
- (12) Lovedisc – this is a horse I liked its last time out and it did not perform. With the drop in class, I like it to be more competititve. This would just be an underneath salary saver. ⭐
- (3) Barbie’s King – im listing this horse to help provide some variety for your lineup. I think there is a chance it hits underneath. There is a drop in class here that makes it in play for me. ⭐
Race 2
This 4.5 furlong trip on the dirt should generally benefit early runners horses from an inside post position, but I’m not discounting horses on the outside. Typical winning beyer speed figures are about 83. I weight the workouts and pedigree higher since we don’t have a speed history.
- (4) Breakthrough – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- (8) Hyperfocus – ⭐⭐⭐
- (6) Cobb – ⭐
- (7) Full Send – ⭐1/2
Race 3
We’re running 1 mile on the turf. We also want to see roughly a 79 beyer speed.
- (3) By His Grace – speed and style rate well for this race. A much more palatable price. ⭐⭐⭐
- (6) Mariposa Belle – the jockey isn’t good but the horse has a lot to like. The good speed and drop in class make me think an underneath run is possible. ⭐⭐
- (12) Cat Lady – my pick to win, but its the most expensive horse we have ever seen in this contest. If you can make it work, take your shot, but there is enough value in this race if you can’t. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Race 4
Race 4 is a 1 mile trip on the turf. A 78 beyer has usually been necessary to take it down and the rail is king. This race was kind of a nightmare to try and cap so I won’t be betting it but I have a couple of plays that could hit the board.
- (1) Algodonal – really good form and a good jockey. Needs to improve upon the last trip a but the potential is easily there. ⭐⭐
- (6) Sand Drift – total package to take this race down. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Down The Back Straightaway
Race 5
This race will take us 6 furlongs on the dirt. Typically, we like the early-running horses. The average winning beyer is 73. There is an inside bias in this race.
- (1) Socially Astray – just off the pace to me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- (10) Impression Given – dropping in class. This horse should be able to improve and hit the board ⭐⭐
Race 6
We are back on the turf going 6 furlongs. Early runners have had success, especially coming from the rail/inside post positions. The race typically has a better than moderate pace, with the winner gaining an 81 beyer.
- (4) Riggins – only 1 race so far and dropping in class for the 2nd. There is a good chance for Riggins to improve and I like its chances in this one. ⭐⭐⭐
- (11) Reconvene – solid speed at a longer distance. I feel it likely that number could be repeated going slightly shorter, if not improve, especially since this will be Reconvene’s 2nd race. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- (12) Eagles Palace – I see a lot of similarities to Reconvene at a cheaper price. ⭐⭐⭐
Race 7
We’re going 5 furlongs on the turf. The speed horses have success.
- (5) Foolish Humor – dropping in class and has a good running style. ⭐⭐⭐
- (9) Envied – a late runner to move up the standings late. ⭐⭐
- (10) Compensate – better late pace than foolish humor. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Race 8
We are on the dirt and running 6 furlongs. An 84 beyer or better is what we desire.
- (3) Cat Gone Quick – moving up in class but speed and power to hang with the class of the race. ⭐⭐
- (5) Louie’s Kingdom – LK’s lone victory has come at this distance and gets a great upgrade in jockey today. ⭐⭐⭐
… And We Turn for Home!
Race 9
A 94 beyer is desired for the 1-1/16 mile trip around the turf. Late runners have had success lately. The mid posts have an advantage. This is the premier race of the day so there are plenty of contenders here.
- (6) Halladay – everything surrounding the horse is premier – pedigree, trainer, jockey, and its body of work. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- (4) Aquaphobia – drops in class and has a hot trainer/jockey combo. I like the late speed to be able to make things interesting. ⭐⭐
- (9) Social Paranoia – great late speed. ⭐⭐⭐
- (11) Admission Office – there is excellent speed but I think this horse wants to run longer distances and for that reason I’m wary. ⭐
Race 10
A solid beyer of 88 is desired for the 1 mile trip on the turf. Speed rules the roost.
- (6) Battle of Blenheim – 5 star play for me here. The speed is excellent and gets a great jockey. I’m locking this horse in and moving on. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- (11) Shootin The Breeze – my backup play in case of a scratch. ⭐⭐
Race 11
6 furlongs on the dirt at a 92 beyer should make for an exciting race. Speed rules here.
- (4) I’ll Fight Dempsey – great race fit. My favorite pick to win. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- (11) Whiskey Sunrise – moves up in class but has plenty of power. ⭐⭐⭐
- (5) R Mercedes Boy – moving up in class but with a great jockey. I dont think its enough horse though. Underneath play for me. ⭐⭐
- (3) Tap It To Win – off a long layoff but there is tremendous potential. It will be popular with the betting market. People want to see it do well coming off the dud in the Street Sense Stakes. Talented but show me before I get involved. ⭐
Race 12
We are going 1 mile on the dirt. Winning beyer is around 91 and we want the speed horses. Those are the ones who like to press the pacers.
- (2) Trappezoid – seems the best of a wild field to me with a great trainer and a great trainer. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- (3) Peppi the Hunter – the race favorite but i want to fade it here due to the new jockey not being that good. With so many high dollar plays on the board all day, I’ll fade this one. ⭐
- (8) Discreet Heat – underneath play for me with good speed. ⭐⭐
- (9) Dexter Road – good history if hitting the board. Good speed. ⭐⭐⭐
We can talk about other horses but these are my plays for now. I’ll see ya in the chat. Good Luck!
