KBO Quick Picks - Pitching Targets for DraftKings & FanDuel

KBO Morning Rewind

Before we talk about the upcoming KBO slate, I wanted to revisit our top plays/values from yesterday’s article. We outlined 4 of them and here is how they performed:

Choi Won-tae ($8,900)

DK Score: 22.1
DK Value: 2.5
Value Rank: 3rd

Mike Wright ($8,500)

DK Score: 15.3
DK Value: 1.8
Value Rank: 5th

Lim Chang-gyu ($7,200)

DK Score: 26.5
DK Value: 3.7
Value Rank: 2nd

Jang Shi-hwan ($6,500)

DK Score: 13.7
DK Value: 2.5
Value Rank: 4th

👊 If it wasn’t for David Buchanan having a random career night against a great offense, our 4 would have ranked as the top 4 on the slate 👊

Pitchers and Picks for 5/14

Pitchers are sorted by DraftKings price. Each pitcher breakdown will include name, team, price (DK | FD respectively), matchup (opposing offense 2020 stats/league rank), notes and format. Today’s article will keep things brief and focus only on my favorite high-upside plays for the slate. * indicates LHP.

Koo Chang-mo*

Team: NCD v KTW
Price: $9,200 | $28
Matchup: BA (3rd) | OPS (5th) | SO (3rd) | BB (8th)
Notes:
Koo started 2020 on a strong note – 6IP/2H/0R/8K/2BB. That start was a continuation of the magnificent 2019 season he put together marked by an ERA 0f 3.20 and 114 strikeouts in 107 innings. FanGraph’s ZiPS projection for 2020 has him finished at the top of the league with a K/9 of 8.9. The KT offense was able to hit lefties fairly well last season and he is very expensive (if you need reasons to fade but I think Koo rolls again tomorrow with another strong outing.
Format: ALL

Chris Flexen

Team: DOO v LOT
Price: $8,800 | $24
Matchup: BA (2nd) | OPS (3rd) | SO (1st) | BB (9th)
Notes: Flexen struggled in his KBO debut. He allowed 3ER on 7H and 1BB. He did end up striking out 6. Chris Flexen is another guy who was never able to put it together in the MLB but is projected to do well in the KBO as ZiPS is projecting him to finish 6th overall in ERA this season. The LOT offense has looked great to start the season but I think Flexen bounces back tomorrow in a big way.
Format: GPP

Tyler Wilson

Team: LG v SK
Price: $7,200 | $20
Matchup: BA (9th) | OPS (8th) | SO (8th) | BB (10th)
Notes: Tyler Wilson is about as risky as I am willing to get with a core play label. There is upside-galore at his price but he did not fare well in his opening start – 4.1IP/7R/7H/2K/4BB. So why is he a core play? For starters, he had just finished a mandatory 14 day quarantine (required for any player re-entering the country) leading up to his first start. His 2019 numbers were spectacular – 2.92 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 22 QS in 30 total outings. ZiPS is projecting him to finish 2nd overall in 2020 ERA (3.23) and 9th in K/9 (7.5). On top of that he draws one of the juiciest pitcher matchups. The SK Wyverns have been awful to begin 2020 (1-6 and at the bottom of the league in most offensive categories). They strikeout 3rd most of any team and have the least amount of walks in the league. He is cheap across the board (especially FanDuel) and could come in under-owned when people look at his first start. I love Wilson tonight.

GPP Honorable Mentions

Choi Chae-heung* ($7,900 | $22) – Great matchup, high strikeout upside and had a scoreless 2020 debut.

Jang Min-jae ($7,500 | $23) – High strikeout upside, good control with a low BB rate, and his opponent has the highest SO% in the league.
