KBO DFS Express - Pitching Matchups 5/8

It’s hard to believe that tomorrow’s KBO slate will already be the 4th of the season. Come to think of it… between the stay-at-home orders and trying to stay on top of KBO lineups at 4:30am it’s hard to even remember what day it is! And yet, there is so much beauty in the exhaustion because baseball is worth it ❤️ ⚾️ ❤️

For those of you interested in more KBO tools, the DFS Army is providing tons of free content through the rest of this week. Morning Recap

The chalk prevailed this morning. Koo Chang-mo was the top pitcher in terms of score and value as we mentioned yesterday but came in at over 50% ownership. One of our other top picks, Jang Shi-hwan, was the second best value on the slate and scored almost as many points as Chris Flexen but at a discount of $3,800! On the flip side, we had Flexen and David Buchanan listed as fade-worthy. Flexen did end up scoring fairly well as the most expensive option but Buchanan was the least productive starting pitcher on the slate with just 2.40 DraftKings points.

Up Next

Let’s keep the momentum building Friday! Here are starters for tonight listed with their team, DK and FD price, noteworthy items and recommended DFS format:

Jang Min-jae

Team: Hanwha Eagles
Price: $8,500 | $20
Notes: His 5.43 ERA and 1.48 WHIP from 2019 are uninspiring. He give up home runs at a high clip but has some strikeout upside. Expensive on DK but cheapest P on FD.
Format: GPP (especially on FanDuel)

Lee Seung-ho

Team: Kiwoom Heroes
Price: $8,000 | $24
Notes: ERA was 4.48 with a WHIP over 1.50 in 2019. He did settle in during his final 3 starts last season – 18 innings and only 1 run. Decent win candidate but limited ceiling.
Format: GPP (especially FanDuel) I will be underweight.

Drew Gagnon

Team: Kia Tigers
Price: $7,000 | $21
Notes: Pitched in the MLB (Mets) past two seasons and struggled. Combined 7.32 ERA and 1.71 WHIP (yikes) in 35.2 IP. Did pitch well in AAA last year (2.32 ERA) and has strong strikeout upside. Plus matchup against Samsung tonight.
Format: GPP only on DK, cash considerable on FD (cheap)

Choi Chae-heung

Team: Samsung Lions
Price: $5,000 | $23
Notes: Began 2019 as a reliever and finished a starter. 4.81 ERA/1.53 WHIP and 7.5 SO/9. I do have concerns about how many innings he will be allowed to pitch because he had the workload of a reliever during exhibition play.
Format: GPP at best on DK (cheap), Fade on FD

So Hyeong-jun

Team: KT Wiz
Price: $4,000 | $24
Notes: Debut alert! Hyeong-jun begins his KBO career tonight at the age of 18. He did start one game in exhibition play (6IP/1ER/1K/2BB). It’s worth noting he will be up against the Doosan Bears – one of the best offenses in the league.
Format: Okay for GPP on DK (price), Fade on FD (price)

Yu Hui-kwan

Team: Doosan Bears
Price: $8,500 | $26
Notes: Contact pitcher who had success in 2019 – 3.25 ERA/1.28 WHIP/17 QS. His strikeout numbers are extremely low but he gives you a great chance at a win and definitely has the ability to pitch deep into the game (2 complete games last season).
Format: Cash with decent upside. His price keeps him from being an all-format play for me

Tyler Wilson

Team: LG Twins
Price: $7,800 | $22
Notes: Former MLB player with BAL but this will be his 3rd season in the KBO. Since transitioning to the KBO, Wilson has been a stud. Last year was his best – 2.92 ERA/1.16 WHIP and only 0.3 HR/9. He draws a matchup against a solid offense (NC Dinos) but Wilson did pitch exceptionally well against them last season. He can eat innings and pitched one complete game last season.
Format: ALL – high ceiling and relatively low price tag. He will be chalky.

Lee Jae-hak

Team: NC Dinos
Price: $9,800 | $24
Notes: He finished with a 10-4 record, 3.75 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 23 starts last season. He has been reliable and solid across the board for NC but is prone to giving up hits in bunches. His opponent (LG Twins) make for a sneaky contrarian stack option tonight but make no mistake – Lee Jae-hak is a solid (expensive) option.
Format: Cash (expensive)

Moon Seung-won

Team: SK Wyverns
Price: $8,200 | $28
Notes: Out of 6 seasons in the KBO, last year was by far his strongest. He posted career-bests with a 3.88 ERA/1.13 WHIP/2.1 BB/9. He does give up home runs at a high rate (tied for 6th worst among all pitchers in 2019) and finds himself up against the Lotte Giants who are on fire to start the season. Lotte could make for another sneaky stack tonight.
Format: Cash on DK and Cash/Fade (price) on FD

Noh Kyung-eun

Team: Lotte Giants
Price: $6,500 | $21
Notes: Noh Kyung-eun did not pitch last season but had a solid 2018 – 4.08 ERA/1.19 WHIP.  I’m worried there might be an innings limit for him tonight but the offense for the Wyverns hasn’t exactly looked in-sync. He could score well (especially on FD) even in a shorter outing.
Format: GPP (like him more on FD but viable for both).
