Full Court Press:
New York Knicks @ Los Angeles Clippers
Vegas Total:
Vegas Spread:
This is the lone early game on the day, so if you want to play this one you’ll have to play the showdown slate. We will start with the Knicks, this isn’t the greatest matchup for the wings with Kawhi and Paul George playing great on-ball defense. That said, on a showdown slate, you can make a case for Julius Randle in case he slides over and plays some center. Elfrid Payton continues to get the start and play good minutes, he’s in play here in a tough matchup due to his upside. Marcus Morris is in a similar spot to Randle, but I don’t believe he will slide over to the five, he’ll have to deal with George and Kawhi all game. This is a good spot for Mitchell Robinson, he’s volatile, but the one position the Clippers struggle with is the center position. Lastly, RJ Barrett and Bobby Portis are deeper GPP flyers. From the Clippers, Paul George is questionable here after missing yesterday’s game. If he plays he’s in play against this bad defense and if he’s out we just fire up Kawhi Leonard and Lou Williams. Kawhi is a great play regardless but would be a lock if George misses. Lou Williams is more of a GPP play if George plays, while Montrezl Harrell is a solid play at this price tag.
5-star play: Paul George, Kawhi Leonard
4-star play: Julius Randle, Elfrid Payton, Mitchell Robinson, Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell
Deeper Value: Bobby Portis
GPP Sleeper: Marcus Morris, RJ Barrett, Bobby Portis
Portland Trailblazers @ Miami Heat
Vegas Total: 221.0
Vegas Spread: Mia -5.5
We kick the main slate off with the Trailblazers, Damian Lillard has 45+ Draftkings points in four of his last five games and should be able to avoid Jimmy Butler defense here. CJ McCollum is who I would guess gets the short straw and gets Jimmy Butler on D, he’s more of a deep GPP play due to this. Hassan Whiteside is coming off of a massive 61 point Draftkings outing and is just smashing everyone in his sights lately, he’s a nice play even in a tough matchup. Carmelo Anthony has 30+ Draftkings points in two straight games but is a little too expensive for my liking. Lastly, Kent Bazemore is a fine value option, but there just hasn’t been any type of ceiling there. From the Heat, Jimmy Butler is too cheap here, he has 50+ Draftkings points in two of his last four games and won’t get any defensive pressure from the Blazers. The same can be said for Bam Adebayo, Whiteside gets nice defensive stats but doesn’t play good defense as weird as it sounds. I’ll be all over these two today. The rest of this team is GPP plays, guys like Goran Dragic and Kendrick Nunn have decent upside if Justise Winslow is out again.
5-star play: Damian Lillard, Hassan Whiteside, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo
4-star play: Carmelo Anthony, Goran Dragic
Deeper Value: Kent Bazemore
GPP Sleeper: Carmelo Anthony, Goran Dragic, Kendrick Nunn, CJ McCollum
Minnesota Timberwolves @ Cleveland Cavaliers
Vegas Total:
Vegas Spread:
Starting with the Timberwolves, both Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins are questionable here but I’ll operate under the assumption that they play. KAT has been out for too long for me to jump right into playing him, I’ll take it as a wait and see. Wiggins has been out with an illness so I wouldn’t expect him to be limited at all, he’s a nice play in all formats. Robert Covington has at least 33 Draftkings points in four of his last five games but is really only a solid play if Wiggins is out. He’s more of a GPP guy if Wiggins plays. Jeff Teague is also questionable here if he is out we can go right back to Shabazz Napier who has at least 37 Draftkings points in three straight games. From Cleveland, Kevin Love is expected to rest on the back end of this back-to-back so I think we can safely assume him being out. With Larry Nance already out, there will be a ton of minutes to pick up between Cedi Osman and John Henson who make for very nice value options. Tristan Thompson has been held under 30 Draftkings points in three straight games, I’ll wait for his form to get better before I play him. Collin Sexton is playing a ton of minutes lately and gets a nice matchup here, he’s a nice play as well.
5-star play: Andrew Wiggins, Cedi Osman
4-star play: Robert Covington, John Henson, Collin Sexton
Deeper Value: Cedi Osman, John Henson
GPP Sleeper: Tristan Thompson, Shabazz Napier
Memphis Grizzlies @ Phoenix Suns
Vegas Total: 234.5
Vegas Spread: Pho -6.5
This game should have the highest implied total on the slate which means we are in for some DFS gold. Starting with the Grizzlies, Jaren Jackson is playing great basketball as of late but is averaging just 26 Draftkings points per game against the Suns this season. I’m willing to rely more on the recent games than early this season, he’s a nice GPP play at the very least. Jonas Valanciunas has 32+ Draftkings points in eight of his last ten games and has flashed a massive ceiling this season, he’s a great play here. Ja Morant is coming off of a nice 42 point fantasy outing and is averaging 33 Draftkings points per game against the Suns this season. Dillon Brooks, Brandon Clarke, and Jae Crowder are all deeper GPP plays but get a nice matchup here so they make some sense as well. From the Suns, Devin Booker is on a heater scoring 50+ Draftkings points in three of his last four games and gets a great matchup here. Kelly Oubre is in the same boat and has scored 45+ Draftkings points in four straight games, it’s tough not to love the upside on him in this spot. DeAndre Ayton draws a tough matchup but has at least 40 Draftkings points in three of his last four games, he’s more of a secondary option. Ricky Rubio draws a great matchup as well, as the Grizzlies have struggled all year against point guards, he’s a solid play in all formats.
5-star play: Devin Booker, Kelly Oubre, Jonas Valanciunas
4-star play: Jaren Jackson, DeAndre Ayton, Ricky Rubio, Ja Morant
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Dillion Brooks, Brandon Clarke, Jae Crowder
Detroit Pistons @ Los Angeles Lakers
Vegas Total:
Vegas Spread:
Starting with the Pistons, Andre Drummond draws a tough matchup against AD, but they’ll need his size here. I don’t love the matchup, but I think he’s worth a look at the very least. Blake Griffin is questionable here, so Drummond should see an increase in usage and rebound percentage at the very least if he needs to miss again. With Blake, Kennard, and Morris off the court this season, Derrick Rose has a 36.3% usage rate and 1.5 fantasy points per minute. It’s a tough matchup but it’s tough not to like. You can make a case for Bruce Brown as well. Sekou Doumbouya has played big minutes over the past two games and produced nicely in them, he makes for a nice value option if Blake has to miss again. From the Lakers, it’s pretty simple, it’s LeBron James and it’s Anthony Davis. Davis is coming off of a 73 point Draftkings outing, I don’t need to tell you he’s an elite play. LeBron James has 50+ Draftkings points in five of his last six games. He may be the safer option between the two Lakers stars. The rest of this team is just deep GPP plays at best.
5-star play: Andre Drummond, Anthony Davis, LeBron James
4-star play: Derrick Rose, Sekou Doumbouya
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Bruce Brown
