Full Court Press:
Boston Celtics @ Toronto Raptors
Vegas Total: 213.5
Vegas Spread: Bos -2.0
Happy Holidays everyone! We start this Christmas Day slate off with the Boston Celtics traveling to Toronto in an Eastern Conference clash. We know that Marcus Smart is out already while Gordon Hayward has been ruled probable, so we do have some clarity here. With Smart off of the court, here is how the Celtics main pieces shake out…
- Kemba Walker – 30.4% usage rate; 1.32 fantasy points per minute
- Jayson Tatum – 28.8% usage rate; 1.22 fantasy points per minute
- Jaylen Brown – 26% usage rate; 1.13 fantasy points per minute
- Gordon Hayward – 21.1% usage rate; 1.02 fantasy points per minute
These guys are all priced as they should be for Smart being out, Tatum is in the best form while Kemba has come off of a couple of stinkers. You can make a case for all of them here, and they will all be in my player pool. Lastly, Enes Kanter continues to play well if you need a value center option with Gasol and Siakam still out. From the Raptors, Kyle Lowry is probably still too cheap here. He is playing great basketball as of late and Kemba isn’t known for his defense. Pascal Siakam has been ruled out indefinitely which is a huge hit to this team. Not to mention that big man Marc Gasol is out along with Norman Powell as well. Kyle Lowry will likely be the biggest beneficiary in terms of usage, he sees a 37% usage rate and 1.65 fantasy points per minute with Siakam, Powell and Gasol off the court and is playing great basketball right now. I would expect Serge Ibaka to see a massive bump as well, he’s seeing 1.2 fantasy points per minute with those two off the court. OG Anunoby and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson should also see extended run with the big men out. Fred VanVleet isn’t in the best form but should get a ton of minutes which will put him in play.
5-star play: Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Kyle Lowry
4-star play: Serge Ibaka, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Jaylen Brown, Enes Kanter
Deeper Value: Chris Boucher
GPP Sleeper: Jaylen Brown, Enes Kanter, Rondae Hollis- Jefferson
Milwaukee Bucks @ Philadelphia 76ers
Vegas Total: 221.5
Vegas Spread: Mil -2.5
Starting with the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo has a 38.2% usage rate on the season and 1.97 fantasy points per minute. The only issue with him is he doesn’t usually see his max minutes because the Bucks blow everyone out. I would expect this game to stay close so Giannis should be in line for a full workload here, he is an elite play… he also gets up to play Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid (he’s not a fan of either of them). Khris Middleton draws a middle of the pack matchup, but I think he’s too cheap here, he’s a great play in all formats. Donte DiVincenzo’s price keeps climbing but he has been performing very well, he’s a nice GPP option with Eric Bledsoe still out. Both Brook Lopez and George Hill are GPP options as well, Lopez is in pretty good form over his past three games. From the Sixers, Joel Embiid had a massive game against the Bucks last season and is a good spot here as well. The Bucks rank 20th in defense against opposing centers on the season. I don’t love the matchup for Ben Simmons, the Bucks funnel points to the three-point line and that just isn’t Simmons’ game, so I may take a pass here. That said, I do like Tobias Harris and Al Horford in this one, both are secondary options in all formats. You can make a case for Josh Richardson as well, but I don’t think I’ll get a whole lot of him.
5-star play: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid
4-star play: Khris Middleton, Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, Al Horford, Donte DiVincenzo
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Donte DiVincenzo, Ben Simmons, Brook Lopez
Houston Rockets @ Golden State Warriors
Vegas Total: 228.5
Vegas Spread: Hou -10.0
This game has the largest implied total as well as the highest spread, so we could be in for a blowout here, but I never like predicting those when it comes to DFS, so we will start with the Rockets. James Harden and Russell Westbrook should be able to do whatever they want against this Warriors defense, both are elite plays at their respective price tags. The same goes for Clint Capela, he’ll likely get some Draymond defense, but I’m not all that worried about that. PJ Tucker, Ben McLemore, and Danuel House all make sense as lineup filling value plays as well, McLemore and House are the more blowout proof of the three if that sways your opinion. From the Warriors, D’Angelo Russell has at least 42 Draftkings points in three straight games, they will need his scoring today and I like his price quite a bit for GPPs. Draymond Green has triple-double upside every time he takes the court, he’s a GPP play as well in a decent matchup. Alec Burks and Damion Lee are both playing great basketball, I would prefer Burks over Lee at similar price tags but both are in play.
5-star play: James Harden, Russell Westbrook, D’Angelo Russell
4-star play: Clint Capela, PJ Tucker, Alec Burks, Draymond Green, Damion Lee
Deeper Value: Ben McLemore, Danuel House
GPP Sleeper: D’Angelo Russell, Draymond Green, Damion Lee
Los Angeles Clippers @ Los Angeles Lakers
Vegas Total: 223.5
Vegas Spread: Lac -1.5
Starting with the Clippers, everyone should be active here so we don’t need to worry about rest. It will be interesting to see how these teams match up, AD feels too big to guard either Kawhi or Paul George. LeBron will for sure be on one of them but that really isn’t saying a whole lot as we have seen his defense come down as his career progresses. That said, this is a good defensive Lakers team. Kawhi Leonard would be my preferred option between him and Paul George, he scored 48.5 Draftkings points in this matchup earlier this season. Paul George has not been in the best form and should probably be reserved for GPPs here. Lou Williams feels too cheap here and is coming off a solid game in which Kawhi was out. The Clips will need Montrezl Harrell’s size in this one so I could see him getting extended run and making a lot of sense here (he played 38 minutes in the first game against these guys). From the Lakers, it’s the LeBron James and Anthony Davis show, both are expected to play which eliminates a major headache. Both are elite plays as well, that said, I will not be pairing the two, you need to pick one here. If I’m picking one it is Anthony Davis, the Clippers struggle with big men and I think will have an easier time guarding LeBron than AD. Rajon Rondo makes sense for GPPs, but nothing else I really love from this team.
5-star play: Kawhi Leonard, Montrezl Harrell, Anthony Davis
4-star play: Paul George, Lou Williams, LeBron James
Deeper Value: Rajon Rondo
GPP Sleeper: Rajon Rondo
New Orleans Pelicans @ Denver Nuggets
Vegas Total: 220
Vegas Spread: Den -10.0
Starting with the Pelicans, Brandon Ingram has been all sorts of consistent this season, that said, this is an extreme pace down game for this Pelicans team, however the price does reflect that. I’m proceeding with caution on these guys. Jrue Holiday has 39+ Draftkings in four of his last five games, however, I would rather find the extra salary and get up to Ingram. Lonzo Ball and JJ Redick wrapped up this team as GPP plays for me. From the Nuggets, this is an elite spot for Nikola Jokic who is in great form as of late. This is a big pace up spot for this team and I would prefer this side of the ball over the Pels. Jamal Murray has 40+ Draftkings points in three of his last four games. This is a nice matchup for him and has flashed a massive ceiling this season. Will Barton is a solid GPP play but pretty volatile.
5-star play: Nikola Jokic
4-star play: Brandon Ingram, Jrue Holiday, Jamal Murray, Will Barton
Deeper Value: None
GPP Sleeper: Jamal Murray, Will Barton, Lonzo Ball, JJ Redick
