Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In DFS we define the Free Square as a player to build your lineups around. Generally, this player represents the closest we can find to a sure thing for the slate.
This column is all about trying to identify the free square for a particular slate. Often times, this will be a low-cost player who is thrust into a starting role and sure to make or exceed value. The type of player that allows us to load up the rest of our lineup with high salary studs. Occasionally it will be a high priced stud in a great spot. Each slate we will take a look at three or four players which represent great value on the day’s slate of games and choose the one which best represents the top value and floor play to earn the title of the slates Free Square

Today’s injury situations
ATL – Alen Len – Doubtful
BOS – Marcus Smart – Questionable

IND – Malcolm Brogdon – Questionable

Aron Baynes $4,800 / $4,100
Baynes is a better play on Fanduel than he is on Draftkings tonight, but I’ll have plenty of exposure to him on both sites. DeAndre Ayton is out tonight vs the Warriors so I think the default roster construction tonight, especially on Fanduel, will be to pay down for Center and pay up at other spots. Baynes has been playing well, in his last 3 games he has played 29, 32 and 25 minutes and he’s scored 19.7, 22 and 15.5 fantasy points. Those scores are not super exciting but what he allows you to do with the rest of your lineup is a big reason you’re playing him tonight.
OTHER Suns
Dari Saric could be a solid value here as well, with Ayton out of the lineup. Saric is only $4,200 on Fanduel and he could see some extra minutes as well. Most people will flock to Aron Baynes at the Center spot so Saric could be somewhat sneaky in the PF spot on Fanduel.
Another route you could go is to target the wings vs the Warriors. Devin Booker, Kelly Oubre, and Ricky Rubio should have solid games here and they should have a little more freedom to run with Ayton off the floor.
BRING IT BACK?
If you’re looking to game stack, this is a solid game to target. It’s a standalone game, starting at 10:30 pm while the other games are all going to be over. Glen Robinson, Damion Lee, Willie Cauley Stein, and Alec Burks are the value guys I want to target on the Warriors. If I’m looking to pay up I’m going to target D’Angelo Russell and then Draymond Green. I think this game has a good chance to shoot out tonight and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being the highest-scoring game on this slate.

Aaron Holiday $5,400 / $4,700
Malcolm Brogdon is Questionable tonight so Aaron Holiday will start at point guard again if he’s out. He started last game and played 30 minutes vs the Raptors and he put up 40.2 fantasy points. The matchup against the Heat is not a great one but given his minutes opportunity with Brogdon out, I think he’ll pay off this salary and then some tonight.
Other Pacers
If Brogdon if out, I really like Jeremy Lamb tonight and his price is super cheap on Fanduel at just $4,800 and Draftkings just $5,000. He returned from injury and put up 28.6 fantasy points in 35 minutes against the Raptors last game.

TOO CHEAP
John Collins $7,600 / $8,100
Collins returned from injury last game with a big 50 fantasy point game vs the Cavs. Tonight he gets a tougher matchup vs the Bucks but his price still feels a little too cheap for me. He’s only 7.6k on DK tonight and the Hawks will be without Alex Len. We should see Collins play some Center minutes along with his normal Power Forward minutes tonight.
Devin Booker $6,900 both sites
Booker was priced at $8,800 on 12/11/19 vs Memphis and then he got injured. He missed 3 games and returned on 12/20/19. He played 3 sub par games, only scoring 30+ in 1 of those 3 games. Now his price has plummeted all the way down to $6,900 and he gets a matchup today vs the Warriors. This game has the 2nd highest game total on the slate at 223, and the Suns have the 2nd highest team total at 113. The Warriors rank last on the slate vs Shooting Guards so this is a smash spot here for Booker.
