Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In DFS we define the Free Square as a player to build your lineups around. Generally, this player represents the closest we can find to a sure thing for the slate.
This column is all about trying to identify the free square for a particular slate. Often times, this will be a low-cost player who is thrust into a starting role and sure to make or exceed value. The type of player that allows us to load up the rest of our lineup with high salary studs. Occasionally it will be a high priced stud in a great spot. Each slate we will take a look at three or four players which represent great value on the day’s slate of games and choose the one which best represents the top value and floor play to earn the title of the slates Free Square

Happy Holidays everyone! We’ve got a HUGE 11 game NBA Slate to break down and we’ve got a ton of injury news that will shape this slate. As of 3:00pm this is the news we’ve got:
Joel Embiid – questionable
Karl-Anthony Towns – questionable
Blake Griffin – questionable
Derrick Rose – probable
Bruce Brown – questionable
Domantas Sabonis – questionable
Jeremy Lamb – questionable
Jonas Valanciunas – questionable
Clint Capela – probable
Marcus Morris – doubtful

Wendell Carter Jr. – probable

Ish Smith $4,500 on both sites
With Isaiah Thomas out tonight, serving his 2 game suspension for his confrontation with the fan last game, we’ll get Ish Smith in the starting lineup. He’s not dirt cheap anymore, priced at 4.5k on both sites, but, he’s priced far too cheap for the amount of run he’s going to get tonight. In his last game, he laid an egg, in 20 minutes only scoring 3.2 fantasy points. Before that game, however, he had been really solid, scoring 36.2, 21, 33.3 and 28.6 fantasy points in his previous 4 games. I expect him to have a solid game tonight against the Knicks who have zero desire to play Defense.
OTHER Wizards
Troy Brown Jr is another solid value on this Wizards team only $4,800 on both sites. The Wizards are extremely thin tonight and Brown should be locked into 30+ minutes in this one.
One of the top spend up options on the slate is Bradley Beal. With Moe Wagner, Rui Hachimura, Isaiah Thomas and Davis Bertans off the floor, Beal has a near 40% usage rate on the season. He’s priced under 10k on both sites and he should be able to do whatever he wants tonight against the Knicks.
BRING IT BACK?
Marcus Morris is out for the Knicks tonight, so I’m expecting Julius Randle to have a big game. The matchup against the Wizards is ELITE as they rank Last in Defensive Efficiency, Last in Team Rebounding and 3rd in Pace. Randle is only priced at $6,700 on DK and $6,900 on Fanduel tonight and I think he pays those prices off fairly easily. This game has a monster 228 total with the Knicks implied for 115.75. Randle could be a sneaky way to get a piece of this game.
Aron Baynes $4,700 / $4,300
Baynes will likely be the default Cash Game Center option tonight, with so many STUDS in the guard spots on this slate. Baynes should be in the starting lineup for the Suns with DeAndre Ayton missing tonight’s game against the Nuggets. The matchup is not great but the price is far too low for someone in the starting lineup who should play near 30 minutes.

Nikola Vucevic $8,200 / $7,700
I’ve been targeting bigs vs the Bulls all season long and I’m not going to stop doing that tonight. Vucevic is coming of a MONSTER game against the Blazers where he dropped 62.9 fantasy points. The Matchup vs the Bulls is as good as it gets and he’s not priced where he should be coming back from his recent injury. Take advantage of this price now, as he’ll be over 9k in no time.
