Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In DFS we define the Free Square as a player to build your lineups around. Generally, this player represents the closest we can find to a sure thing for the slate.
This column is all about trying to identify the free square for a particular slate. Often times, this will be a low-cost player who is thrust into a starting role and sure to make or exceed value. The type of player that allows us to load up the rest of our lineup with high salary studs. Occasionally it will be a high priced stud in a great spot. Each slate we will take a look at three or four players which represent great value on the day’s slate of games and choose the one which best represents the top value and floor play to earn the title of the slates Free Square
My NBA Free Squares for Today 🇺🇸 November 14th 🇺🇸
Today we get a small ish 5 game Thursday slate to breakdown. Currently, the highest implied team totals belong to the Bucks (120.5), the Clippers (119.5) and the Suns (117.5). While the three lowest totals belong to the Knicks (104), the Cavs (105.25) and the Nets (107).

🇺🇸 JaMychal Green $4,000 / $3,900
Green has played 32 and 24 minutes in his last 2 games and he has scored 40 and 29 fantasy points in those games. He gets a matchup today against the New Orleans Pelicans and his Clippers team has the 2nd highest implied team total on the slate at 119.5. He’s only priced at 4.0k on DK and 3.9k on FD and he looks to be the top value on the slate this morning. Stay tuned as other news will surely come out later in the day, but, right now he’s a core cash play for me tonight.
🇺🇸 DeAndre Bembry $3,900 / $4,400
With Vince Carter and Kevin Huerter out tonight for they will be shorthanded at the wing spots. DeAndre Bembry should get some extra run and he’s someone that should hit value at his low price. In his last 2 games, he has played 29 and 40 minutes. In those games, he has scored 16.75 and 19.75 fantasy points. I know, it’s nothing spectacular, but, he’s dirt cheap and if he’s going to play 30 minutes he could blow up for 30+ fantasy points. If we’re looking simply for an opportunity, he’s got plenty of it tonight vs the Suns.

🇺🇸 Nets
Caris LeVert is out tonight and Kyrie Irving is questionable. If we get news that Irving is out Spencer Dinwiddie would become a very solid play on both sites. Dinwiddie is priced at 5.7k on DK and 5.5k on FD tonight. Dinwiddie averages around 1.30 fantasy points per minute with Irving off the floor and we should expect the offense to run through him tonight if Irving is out.
🇺🇸 Pelicans
This may be the biggest news we’re waiting on today on this small 5 games slate. Right now we know Lonzo Ball is out and we know Josh Hart is out. Those two being out really helps Jrue Holiday and we should expect him to get more usage and more opportunities tonight. We also have Brandon Ingram and Jahlil Okafor being listed as questionable, which really opens up some interesting possibilities if they were to be ruled out.
Kenrich Williams will get the largest boost if Ingram is ruled out and he would be a Free Square if he enters the starting lineup. While Derrick Favors would be a great play if Okafor is out and he would be in the Free Square range as well.
Without Ingram, we would see Jrue Holiday get even more usage and despite not being a “value play” he would be considered a Free Square simply because of the workload he will see.
