Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In NBA DFS there will be situations that come up that will lead to bench players getting more minutes. Some may even enter the starting lineup. The low cost of these players will allow us to spend up across the rest of our lineups. Which gives us the ability to lock in some high dollar studs.
Sometimes, we’ll get situations where higher dollar players will be basically “Free Squares” based on the other players on the slate and other situations. Regardless of the specific situation, I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction each night to start your lineup builds.
More Huge Wins!
Congratulations to both Joshtherealtor and wixpo for their 5-figure wins in MLB and NBA last night 🤟❤💯
My NBA Free Squares for Today October 23rd
💥 Tyler Herro – $3,600 (Fanduel)
The Heat suspended SG Dion Waiters for 1 game for Conduct Detrimental to the Team. That should open up some minutes for Rookie Tyler Herro who put on a show this Pre-Season. The 6’6 Rookie from Kentucky had a great Pre-Season and his best game was a 23 point 5 rebound 2 assist game just about a week ago. The matchup is not ideal against Memphis but I’m buying into the hype here. He’s a better play on Fanduel where he’s damn near min salary.
💥 Pistons Frontcourt – Andre Drummond and Markief Morris
With Blake Griffin OUT for a while to start the season, these two should see increased opportunities for Rebounds and time on the floor. Another thing to keep an eye on tonight is that Markief Morris is currently listed as Questionable, so, if he is in fact OUT of the game tonight, we could get some real solid value with Christian Wood. He played well last year towards the end of the season when he started to see more playing time, so at just $3.9k on Fanduel he’s an easy punt value play at Power Forward if Morris is out. If Morris plays he’ll be a large field a GPP dart throw for me.

💥 Knicks Frontcourt – Julius Randle and Bobby Portis
Mitchell Robinson is out for the Knicks and Taj Gibson is questionable tonight. If Gibson is out as well, then Julius Randle is going to play as many minutes as he can handle here tonight vs the Spurs. The matchup is not great of course, the Spurs are one of the better defensive teams in the league, but, the opportunity will be hard to ignore for me in this one. The price of Randle will likely keep his ownership low in Tourneys, which is something I love to see in a guy that has shown GPP winning upside in the past.
💥 Ish Smith – $4,700 / $5,300
Isaiah Thomas is out to start the season for the Wizards so Ish Smith will step into the start point guard spot. He’s only priced at $4.7k on Fanduel and 5.3k on Draftkings and should provide us with some solid value on this big slate. We’ve seen Smith fill up the stat sheet in the past when given the opportunity and I’m expecting him to hold it down for us here tonight in Dallas.
