DFS Madness's Strategy for Winning NBA Tiers Lineups for Draftkings - Apr. 9th, 2019

Welcome to the DFS Army Draftkings Tiers breakdown! The Tiers breakdown will consist of a breakdown of all six tiers on Draftkings and why you should or shouldn’t play some of these guys! My name is Michael aka @MadnessDFS on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the article and just because I like to think I’m a great Twitter follow (high hopes). But, you’ll mostly find me in our VIP coaching forums where I provide detailed lineup maneuvers and answer all lineup questions. With that said, let’s get it started!

Tier One:

James Harden is averaging 51.7 Draftkings points per game in three games against the Thunder this season, he’s hard to talk someone off of here. He also has the best DvP% of the group at 110.3%, and projects as the highest scorer in the Domination Station. However, Russell Westbrook is probably my favorite option on tonight’s slate, he’s scored at least 53 Draftkings points in six straight games. Not only does he provide a nice floor, but has a similar ceiling to Harden. Paul George is a nice pivot off of the two, while I don’t see a reason to go with Karl-Anthony Towns now that he got a mid-day downgrade.

Madness’s Tier One Rankings:

  1. Russell Westbrook
  2. James Harden
  3. Paul George
  4. Karl-Anthony Towns

Tier Two:

Donovan Mitchell is projected for the most points here and is my favorite play in this tier, despite the low DvP%. With Rubio off the court this season, we’ve seen Mitchell handle the point guard duties. He sees a usage rate of 33% and averages 1.23 fantasy points per minute. Steph Curry draws the best DvP% at 117.3%, but they don’t have anything to play for here so I’m a little hesitant to go with him. Rudy Gobert is in the same situation as Mitchell, he sees a 1.23 fantasy point per minute with Rubio off the court, I like him as a pivot off of Mitchell. Luka Doncic has triple-double upside every time he steps on the court and gets an incredible matchup here, I love him in this spot. Nikola Jokic has been ruled in, but draws the toughest matchup a center can get with Gobert defense, he’ll rank in the lower half of this tier for me. I don’t see the need to go with Julius Randle here.

Madness’s Tier Two Rankings:

  1. Donovan Mitchell
  2. Luka Doncic
  3. Rudy Gobert
  4. Steph Curry
  5. Nikola Jokic
  6. Julius Randle

Tier Three:

Mitchell Robinson is my favorite play here, aligning with the Domination Station. Robinson continues to produce and draws a great matchup here as the Bulls rank 27th in defense against opposing centers. I also like Clint Capela here, although the Thunder are tough on centers, Capela has averaged 43.8 Draftkings points per game in two games against them this season. Kevin Durant hasn’t had a 40 point fantasy game in five games, he can be avoided given the circumstances. I don’t love Kawhi Leonard or Pascal Siakam either, but they are fine GPP plays. While I’ll be avoiding Ben Simmons altogether.

Madness’s Tier Three Rankings:

  1. Mitchell Robinson
  2. Clint Capela
  3. Kawhi Leonard
  4. Kevin Durant
  5. Ben Simmons
  6. Pascal Siakam

Tier Four:

This is a pretty tightly projected tier, and really the only guy I don’t have any interest in is Tobias Harris. Starting with Chris Paul, he is averaging 39.5 Draftkings points per game against the Thunder this season. He also draws the best matchup, as the Thunder rank 26th in defense against opposing point guards. Josh Jackson provides a nice floor/safety with a decent about of upside. He has gone over 50 fantasy points in two of his last four games. JaVale McGee’s DvP% is a bit skewed because that number is accounting for Jusuf Nurkic who is out for the season. Enes Kanter is nowhere near the defender that Nurkic is. Speaking of Kanter, he draws the best matchup on the Blazers, as the Lakers rank 24th in defense against opposing centers and has been getting more playing time recently. Joe Ingles will see some increased ball-handling duties with Ricky Rubio, Neto, and Exum off the floor. Finally, Elfrid Payton is a nice GPP play, but a little volatile for cash games.

Madness’s Tier Four Rankings:

  1. Chris Paul
  2. Josh Jackson
  3. JaVale McGee
  4. Enes Kanter
  5. Joe Ingles
  6. Elfrid Payton
  7. Tobias Harris

Tier Five:

I’ll start by doing some Dwyane Wade talk, he’s my favorite play in this tier. Not only has he been performing well, but this is likely his last home game. We talk a lot about narratives in DFS, but final games aren’t ones to take lightly, I’m expecting Wade to go out with a bang here, I love Wade tonight. Andrew Wiggins will continue to get minutes into the mid-30s, I like him here as well. Steven Adams is averaging 32 Draftkings points per game in three games against the Rockets this year, he is a fairly safe play. Shaq Harrison and Walt Lemon are fine GPP plays, but I prefer targeting good players. Goran Dragic is getting nearly 40 minutes on a nightly basis, he’s certainly playable here. Christian Wood is a GPP play, just in case he stumbles into 30 minutes.

Madness’s Tier Five Rankings:

  1. Dwyane Wade
  2. Andrew Wiggins
  3. Steven Adams
  4. Goran Dragic
  5. Shaq Harrison
  6. Walt Lemon
  7. Christian Wood

Tier Six:

As weird as it sounds, and words I thought I would never say, but Alex Caruso is my favorite play here. He’s gone for at least 30 fantasy points in four of his past five games and gets a DvP% of 112.9%. He’s the highest projected player in this tier. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has scored at least 45 Draftkings points in two straight games and will look to stay hot here. Jakkar Sampson has scored at least 34 Draftkings points in all three of his games with the Bulls, I would expect him to continue to get minutes here. Klay Thompson is a safe floor play and a decent sized ceiling, but again I worry about the Warriors minutes here because of the incentive in this game. Serge Ibaka, Dion Waiters, and Jamal Murray are all GPP plays here.

Madness’s Tier Six Rankings:

  1. Alex Caruso
  2. Jakkar Sampson
  3. Klay Thompson
  4. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
  5. Jamal Murray
  6. Serge Ibaka
  7. Dion Waiters
