Hello folks and welcome to my NHL Positional Breakdown for Fanduel!
For those of you who are new to the DFS Army, new to NHL DFS, or just like to read different articles, my name is Matt Dell’Agnese and I’m an MLB and NHL coach and writer for the DFS Army. Hit me for a follow on twitter at mdellagnese14. If you are a DFS Army VIP member you will know that I’m fairly active in our NHL rooms and around to help coach for the amazing sport of Hockey. I was brought to the DFS Army in January and I wrote Painting the Black for baseball, analyzing pitching picks for the slates. If you’ve played MLB, NHL is very similar. The sports are both volatile and players can put up a 0 or low score at any time. Don’t get discouraged if you get cold, just keep with your process and the players will come around. For cash games, you want to correlate players who skate on the same line or same Power play line, in GPPs stack up the full lines. Thankfully, Chop has asked me to help out with our NHL content articles!
I will be breaking down each position with the players who I like with my reasonings for liking them on the slate! I am a Fanduel player, so these articles will include Fanduel pricing and scoring references! Remember to always check for confirmation of goalies and lines!
Before we dive in, check out some of the recent DFS Army Winners!

Goalies
Right now, there isn’t a ton of goalies confirmed, so be on the lookout for confirms. Goalies are rough today and I expect a high scoring night tonight.
Darcy Kuemper (8.6k): Kuemper has been very good lately and is getting another start here against EDM. He is 11-2-0 in his last 13 starts. His wins have been great and he has back to back 36.8+ fanduel points. The Coyotes are fighting for playoffs and need to win as much as they can. The Oilers are playing a little better lately, but still, don’t worry me all that much. Arizona has been great at home and great at not allowing goals too. ALL FORMATS
Martin Jones (8.6k): Martin Jones has been one of the best goalies of late. Outside of his game against the Panthers, he didn’t allow more than 2 goals in 4 straight starts. The Sharks are rolling and have Evander Kane back now too. Jones has been very good at home too. Nashville has been horrible on offense lately (scoring just 2.05 goals/game in L10) and Jones and the Sharks have a great chance at a win here. ALL FORMATS
Curtis McElhinney (8k): After his HORRID last start it is hard to go back to him. But this matchup is MUCH better than Winnipeg. Buffalo does get Eichel back, but they weren’t scoring much before either. He missed just 2 games, and over their last 10, they are scoring just 2.23 goals/game. No one will go back to him if he starts and this is the time to go back in GPPs. Buffalo is still shooting a ton and he should see a bunch of saves. GPP ONLY
Garret Sparks (7.5k): Happy Sparks chalk day. You can eat it in cash games, but I won’t have much in tournaments. He hasn’t been all that great of late but has been against some tough offenses. Ottawa still isn’t’ really scoring, but there are some pieces from them that I do like. Toronto has such a high powered offense, even after playing a hard game last night. He should be safe for the win in this one. CASH ONLY

Centers
Patrice Bergeron (8.4k): I feel like a broken record with these high priced guys. Bergy has been on fire lately and after a down game, last time out he has another great matchup with the Blue Jackets. He had 2 points last time against them and now is at home in this one. He has such a solid floor with immense upside.
Auston Matthews (8k): Looks like he is finally coming back into form after taking a crazy 8 SOG last night. He has been shooting a ton and finally has seen some goals go in. What a great matchup to keep it rolling.
Tomas Hertl (6.4k): Keeps producing, keeps finding ways into my lineups. He’s been so consistent and Nashville is allowing a ton of goals right now. He has 7 straight games over 11.2 fanduel points and is centering an amazing 2nd line for the Sharks who get Kane back.
Mikael Backlund (5.7k): Backlund has been great lately and is heating up like crazy. What I love is his SOG are solid. He has 19 SOG in his last 4 games and Calgary2 is on fire. Good matchup against the Jets tonight too.
Sebastian Aho (7.5k): Aho hates me so I don’t think I’ll play him if playing 1-5 lineups, but he is in a great spot here. Buffalo has been awful lately and Carolina’s top line is rolling. He’s had 2 down games in a row, so perfect time to have a good game.
Logan Couture (7.3k): I like him in SJ1 stacks tonight in a good spot against Nashville. Including his game against the Jets (where he did absolutely nothing), he has 17 SOG in his last 5 games with a goal and 2 assists. I’ll only use him in stacks, but he’s in a good spot.
Derek Ryan (4k): Ryan is coming up to the top line to replace Monahan. He’s been playing very good (8 SOG) in last two games with 2 goals and 2 assists. He will be a great value with Gaudreau and Lindholm on the top line.
David Krejci (6.1k): He gets his linemate DeBrusk back tonight and this raises his floor. Great matchup with CBJ tonight, but I’ll only use him in stacks with DeBrusk.
Others to consider: Connor McDavid (always in play), Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point, Boone Jenner
Wings
Brad Marchand (8.7k): one bad game and his price goes down, interesting fanduel. Boston crushed the Blue Jackets on the road 2 games ago and now they face them at home. Love me some Marchand again tonight.
Nikita Kucherov (9.4k): Kuch is a tad expensive for me in this spot against Washington. But with that being said, he’s still Kucherov and one of the best players in the NHL. He’s always in play when he’s on the slate.
Johnny Gaudreau (8k): The Flames are heating up again and watch out. Johnny G followed his 6-point game with another goal in the next game. He gets a nice matchup with the Jets here tonight and has been shooting more and more. Without Monahan, he will need to shoot a ton tonight.
Matthew Tkachuk (6.3k): His price is back to where it was when he was on fire. Now, he’s back on fire and I love this matchup. CGY2 is playing amazing and I love them again. He has 6 goals, 4 assist, and 14 SOGBS in his last 3 games and gets another good matchup with the Jets tonight, in a game I see being high scoring.
Timo Meier (5.7k): A late assist helped Meier salvage a decent fanduel score last game and this matchup with Florida is too good to pass up. He’s been so consistent for the Sharks and has tons of upside, especially in this matchup. I love him for his price today and he should score 14+ on Fanduel tonight.
Jake DeBrusk (6k): Slated to come back tonight against the Blue Jackets and should slot right into BOS2. He was rolling before getting hurt, and this only raises his and Krejci’s floors.
Gustav Nyquist (5.3k): Kane is coming back tonight and I think this just increases the production from Nyquist. He didn’t do anything last game against Florida, but I don’t see that happening again tonight.
Brady Tkachuk (5.1k): He’s the only guy I will ever play for OTT this year now. He didn’t have a good game last time out, but TOR has actually been allowing a ton of goals of late. Sparks is going to be chalk, and Brady is going to be low owned. He has upside and thrives in fast games.
Evander Kane (7k): I don’t love him tonight only because he’s been out for so long. BUT I think he comes back ready to play for his family after the personal issues he just went through. He’s expensive, but I love me some SJ2 tonight.
Andreas Johnsson (4.5k)/William Nylander (4.8k): I love these two paired up with Matthews in tournaments tonight. Both are playing great lately and are coming off hot games. They could be chalky, but less than the top line, which I love tonight too. Toronto could score 8 here tonight.
Brendan Perlini (3.9k): He’s been playing out of his mind of late and has been shooting a ton. He has 18 SOG in his last 4 games. He’s hit or miss, but very cheap and is on fire right now.
Michael Frolik (3.7k): Include him in your CGY2 stacks. This line is rolling and he’s dirt cheap.
Others to Consider: Alex Ovechkin, Leon Draisaitl, Josh Anderson, Kevin Labanc,

Defensemen
Morgan Rielly (6.6k): Love Rielly tonight against OTT. He had 6 SOG last game and if he gets that many again he should be able to put one to the back of the net.
Mark Giordano (6.7k): Rather safe floor in a high paced game. I like Rielly a bit more, but Gio has been getting 16 fanduel points a ton of late.
Shea Weber (5.7k): Weber has been consistent for the Canadians and has the most SOGBS in the last 10 games at the position. He has a safe floor and Chicago is still allowing a bunch of goals lately.
Roman Josi (7.3k): If you’re paying up, Josi is your guy. He’s been too consistent lately even on a Nashville team that is struggling of late.
Charlie McAvoy (4.8k): Still is cheap and Krug is still out for this game. He has shwon a floor of 8 in his last 5 games and has upside again in this matchup.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic (4.4k): Continued to produce last game with 11.2 fanduel points. He’s still cheap and in a great matchup tonight.
Jacob Trouba (5.3k): Trouba is still producing for the Jets of late. HE has 45 SOGBS in his last 10 games and Calgary can give up goals.
Others to Consider: John Carlson, Victor Hedman, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Jake Muzzin, Dmitry Orlov (good value, producing of late), Brandon Montour
