Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA Slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In NBA DFS there will be situations that come up that will lead to bench players getting more minutes. Some may even enter the starting lineup. The low cost of these players will allow us to spend up across the rest of our lineups. Wich gives us the ability to lock in some high dollar studs.
NBA Free Squares for Today March 8th
💥 NOP – Elfrid Payton – PG – $6,300 / $5,000
Jrue Holiday will be OUT for the Pelicans tonight and we already know Anthony Davis will only play around 20 minutes. This is going to increase the opportunities for everyone else on the floor. Elf Payton is one of my favorite plays given the situation and he’s a near lock on Draftkings at only $5,000. He’s going to play 30+ minutes in this matchup vs the Raptors and I’m expecting him to pay off that Draftkings salary rather easily tonight.
There are some other great values on the Pelicans as well that I’ll be targeting. Frank Jackson, Darius Miller, Stanley Johnson and Kendrich Williams should each see a minutes increase here as the team fills trys to fill the void left by Holiday. Jackson, Miller and Johnson are all min price or close to it on Fanduel and are all solid dropscore candidates tonight.
If you’re feeling a little lucky you can even take a GPP shot on Anthony Davis here. We know he’s only going to play 20 minutes or so but he’s eclipsed 40 fantasy points 3 of his last 5 games in just 20 minutes. Without Holiday he could get close to 50 and really blow this cheap salary out of the water. This is a GPP ONLY play of course but it’s worth mentioning with Holiday out.
💥 UTA – Royce O’Neal – SF – $3,500 / $3,300
With Ricky Rubio doubtful, and Danet Exum and Raul Neto already ruled out the Jazz wont have many players to handle the ball tonight. Donvan Mitchell and Joe Ingles will initiate most of the offense but as we’ve seen in the past, we can get some solid value here from O’Neal when all these guards are out. He’s dead minum on Fanduel at $3,500 and only $3,300 on Draftkings tonight. He should play 22-26 minutes here and is a great dropscore candidate on tonight’s slate.

💥 CHA – Frank Kaminsky – PF – $4,400 / $3,900
Frank The Tank ranks 2nd in our WHO’S HOT Chart today and 1st in our CLOCK Watch Chart today. What this tells us, is this his fantasy points and his minutes are up when we compare his last 3 games to his last 10 games. He is very inexpensive tonight only priced at $4,400 on Fanduel and $3,900 on Drafkings. Over his last 3 games, he has averaged 25 minutes and 24 fantasy points per game. The Matchup vs the Wizards is great as they allow 8% more fantasy points to power forwards than the league average and rank 30th in our ADVP Metric. Marvin Williams is in the same spot here, he plays more minutes than Kaminsky but he’s a little more expensive.
💥 DET – Luke Kennard – SF – $5,400 / $4,600
Over his last 5 games, Kennard has averaged 28 minutes and 27.8 fantasy points per game. He gets a great matchup here tonight vs the Bulls who have a 110 defensive efficiency rating and allow 4% more fantasy points per game to small forwards than the league average. He’s a been value on Draftkings and will likely go overlooked with some of the other value on this slate. The game environment is not the best but his minutes are secure and he’s been producing solid results as of late.
