Hello folks and welcome to my NHL Positional Breakdown for Fanduel!
For those of you who are new to the DFS Army, new to NHL DFS, or just like to read different articles, my name is Matt Dell’Agnese and I’m an MLB and NHL coach and writer for the DFS Army. Hit me for a follow on twitter at mdellagnese14. If you are a DFS Army VIP member you will know that I’m fairly active in our NHL rooms and around to help coach for the amazing sport of Hockey. I was brought to the DFS Army in January and I wrote Painting the Black for baseball, analyzing pitching picks for the slates. If you’ve played MLB, NHL is very similar. The sports are both volatile and players can put up a 0 or low score at any time. Don’t get discouraged if you get cold, just keep with your process and the players will come around. For cash games, you want to correlate players who skate on the same line or same Power play line, in GPPs stack up the full lines. Thankfully, Chop has asked me to help out with our NHL content articles!
I will be breaking down each position with the players who I like with my reasonings for liking them on the slate! I am a Fanduel player, so these articles will include Fanduel pricing and scoring references! Remember to always check for confirmation of goalies and lines!
Before we dive in, check out some of the recent DFS Army Winners!

Here at the DFS ARMY, we COACH, TEACH, and HELP our members create winning lineups. Nothing is spoon fed here, you put in the work, you will see results. Ask anyone who is with us, they want to learn and want to win, and DO win. Just takes some time and effort from both parties. We will help you become a better DFS player in ALL sports, so join up today! Use the promo code “MDELL” to save 20% at checkout!
All Stats are over the Last 3 weeks (8-11 games) unless noticed otherwise!
Small 4-game slate tonight, play a little lighter and more gpp focused!
Goalies
Thomas Greiss: As of writing this, neither goalie is confirmed yet. I hope it’s Thomas Greiss because he’s been amazing, even better than Lehner. Greiss has 6 straight starts with over 28.8 fanduel points and is just stopping everything right now. In his last 6 games, he has allowed just 3 goals on 188 shots, good for a .984 sv%. THIS IS AMAZING! I hope they are smart and just start him. He has been able to slow down the best team in the NHL in the Lightning twice in the last 6 games. Calgary is still a good offense, but defense >offense in this one tonight.
Jaroslav Halak: I actually hate Halak, but on a small slate, he’s firmly in play tonight. He gets to face the Golden Knights who are struggling to score lately. They just got blanked by COL the other night and are scoring just 2.4 goals/game in the last 3 weeks. Halak should see a bunch of shots and if he can stop them he can get another good game. In his last 4 starts, he has a .947 sv% and has allowed just 1 goal in his last 2 starts.
Semyon Varlamov: He was outstanding last game against Vegas and now gets the Jets who are middle of the pack in the NHL right now. Over his last 3 starts, he has been much better. He’s allowed 3 goals on 97 shots. Colorado’s offense is going to start to pick up again and this is a prime matchup for them to go bananas. I’ll use Varly in GPP’s tonight.
Cam Ward: I don’t think the Blackhawks are going to start Delia again in this one. Ward came into the bloodbath early last game and allowed 4 goals. This time he will be able to prepare more for a start against a DET offense that ranks in the bottom 10 in goals in the last 3 weeks. Yes, he’s been bad in his last 2 games, but before that he had 5 straight games with over 24 fanduel points. DET plays tough at home, but Ward should see a decent amount of shots tonight.
Centers
Patrice Bergeron: Boston has the most SOG in the last 3 weeks and has the 2nd most goals in that span. They are playing amazing and Fleury has been very bad at home of late. Bergeron and his top line should do well here especially if they see VGK2 who is bleeding goals. Stack him with Marchand for all the upside.
Nate MacKinnon: As I said last game, Nate is still cheap. I’m going to keep riding COL1 until they go off. This matchup with Helle is amazing. In the last 2 starts against COL, Helle has allowed 4 goals in each of them. MacKinnon will break out sooner or later and I want to be using him for when this big game comes. It could be tonight.
Jonathan Toews: I love all of CHI tonight, they are one of my favorite stacks again. Toews has been consistent for the Hawks lately having a very high floor. DET is one of the lower PK’s on this slate and Chicago has 2nd best PP% on the slate.
David Krejci: He’s still on fire and playing even better than Strome of late. He’s $100 cheaper and in a better matchup too. Boston is still rolling, and they are playing very good without Pasta in the lineup. Krejci is an amazing value and has 7 assists and 2 goals in his last 5 games.
Dylan Strome: He definitely came out with a vengeance last game after he kind of dudded. He’s still too cheap for how hot the Hawks are right now. DET is a better defensive team than OTT is, but he still can get his. Tonight, I prefer Toews a little more though.
Carl Soderberg: The DS will likely love him again and just 4.5k. He hasn’t scored in 6 games, but this matchup with WPG is still a good one. Someone will score here for COL, and Soderberg is still cheap.
Others to consider: Dylan Larkin, Casey Cizikas (value, GPP flier)
Wings
Patrick Kane: Don’t be stupid here, play Kane. He’s going to be chalky and he’s just on another level right now and should be in nearly all your lineups.
Alex DeBrincat: Still going to ride CHI2 also. Cat is still playing with a great floor lately and his price has actually come down a bit. Chicago has one of the best Power Play’s in the NHL and Cat was absolutely amazing last game.
Jake DeBrusk: DeBrusk is still going off since Pasta got hurt. His price went up a whopping $100 on fanduel and this is another great matchup for him. His last 4 games he hasn’t scored less than 17 fanduel points and has 4 goals and 5 assists in 4 games.
Gabriel Landeskog: He’s the safest COL winger right now and has one of the better floors too. He will normally give you 4 SOG per game and has the upside for more. COL1 is going to still be low owned until they heat up again. Like I said about Nate, I don’t want to miss their blow up game.
Mikko Rantanen: SEE ABOVE. Lower floor for Rantanen, but he’s going to be in my COL1 stacks.
Jonathan Marchessault: Had 7 SOG last game and has a decent matchup. We know Halak can allow goals. He has a floor of about 8 points which is okay, but we want him to keep shooting a ton.
Gustav Nyquist: Set to come back from missing the last game. Even though I like Ward tonight, he still has been giving up goals. Nyquist is in a good spot along with his linemate Larkin.
Anthony Mantha: For 4.5k on fanduel, he’s too cheap for what he’s done lately. He got more opportunities with Nyquist missing last game, but his shots have been increasing of late. This game could shootout just like the Blackhawks last game.
Karson Kuhlman: DK ONLY PLAY. This is a Rflynn special. He has high praise for this kid and he scored his first NHL goal on his first shot last game. He’s min price on DK too and looks to be on the second line with DeBrusk and Krejci. THIS IS A SUPER CHEAP LINE FOR GPPS!!!!
Others to consider: Brad Marchand, Dominik Kahun, Andreas Athansiou, Danton Heinen
Defensemen
Erik Gustafsson: He didnt do anything last game, but I think he bounces back tonight. Last time he faced DET he had an assist and 16 fanduel points. They are still rolling and Gustafsson still gets top PP time.
Mike Green: He’s a grinder for the Red Wings and this game could be a great one. What I really love is his block shot upside in this one. Chicago is going to shoot and Green has 14 blocks in his last 5 games. Great floor for just 4k on Fanduel
Duncan Keith: Seabrook is out again tonight against DET leaving Keith in another good spot. He had 2 assists and 5 SOGBS last game and has the chance to do the same here tonight. He’s cheap and should have a higher floor with no Seabrook.
Charlie McAvoy: Oh man, his price went up a whole $200 on fanduel. He’s going to be close to 5k if he keeps playing like he is. He’s starting to heat back up after 2 bad games and the matchup with Vegas should be a good one.
Shea Theodore: Vegas has been bad, but Theodore has had an 8 point floor in the last 4 games. He’s shooting a bit more, and when not shooting he’s blocking shots. Boston shoots a ton and it gives Theo blocks upside.
Tyson Barrie: He’s been playing well for Colorado lately even without scoring. He has 10 SOG in his last 2 games and 18 in his last 5 games. If COL breaks out tonight, I can see Barrie being apart of that.
Others to Consider: Ryan Pulock, Nate Schmidt, Torey Krug
