Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA Slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In NBA DFS there will be situations that come up that will lead to bench players getting more minutes. Some may even enter the starting lineup. The low cost of these players will allow us to spend up across the rest of our lineups. Wich gives us the ability to lock in some high dollar studs.
NBA Free Squares for Today February 23rd
💥 NOP – PF – Cheick Diallo – $3,800
The Pelicans will be without several players tonight vs the LA Lakers. Darius Miller is doubtful while E’Twaun Moore and Anthony Davis have both been ruled out. This is going to open up a lot of value in the Pelicans frontcourt and my favorite of the group is Diallo. Yesterday he played 26 minutes and scored 42.1 fantasy points vs the Pacers. The Pelicans have already said they’ll limit Anthony Davis for the remainder of the season so we should continue to see great value opportunities here. Diallo finished last nights game with 16 points and 18 rebounds in 26 minutes. He’s got plenty of upside priced at only $3,800 on Fanduel he should be one of the best value plays on the slate.
💥 PHO – SF – Kelly Oubre Jr – $5,200
TJ Warren is out again tonight so we should see Oubre continue to get 30+ minutes on the court vs the Hawks tonight. Oubre has been on fire for the last few weeks and his Fanduel price has yet to catch up to his recent production. Over his last 5 games he has averaged 32 minutes and 34.8 fantasy points per game. In his last 7 games he has gone over 33.2 fantasy points 5 times. The matchup tonight vs the Hawks is as good as it gets. They play at a 106 pace and have a team defensive efficiency rating of 111 and they allow 11% more fantasy points to small forwards than the league average.

💥 MEM – PF – Ivan Rabb – $3,800
He was on our Free Squares list yesterday and he SMASHED value hitting 9.6x on Fanduel. He played 25 minutes last night racked up 15 points 9 rebounds 3 assists 1 steal and 1 block on his way to 36.3 fantasy points vs the Clippers. The Grizzlies will be without starting Power Forward Jaren Jackon Jr tonight so Rabb should continue to get 22-26 minutes. Tonight the Grizzlies are expecting Jonas Valanciunas to return but that doesn’t worry me too much here with Jackson already out. Good news is the Grizzlies have a matchup vs the Cavaliers who are simply awful defensively. On the season they have a team defensive efficiency rating of 114 and allow 2% more fantasy points to power forwards than the league average. Fire up Rabb for some solid value again tonight.
💥 ATL – SG – Kent Bazemore – $4,800
Here we go again. Another Kent Bazemore chalk night is likely ahead of us here. With Kevin Huerter likely out again tonight Kent Bazemore should get another start. He played 33 minutes vs the Pistons last night but he only scored 23.4 fantasy points. I’m not saying I’m going to 100% lock him in here tonight, but, this situation is much better vs the Suns. The Suns play at a 103 pace and have a 112 defensive efficiency rating on the season and they allow 7% more fantasy points to Shooting Guards than the league average. If Bazemore gets around 30 minutes again he SHOULD be able to have a better game this evening than he did last night vs the Pistons.

💥 PHO – PG – Tyler Johnson – $4,700
The Hawks are one of my favorite teams to attack whenever they are on the slate. Tonight we get the benefit of them playing a team in the Suns that have a few very solid value plays we can target. I already mentioned Kelly Oubre Jr above so you know I like him. My 2nd favorite value play on the Suns is Point Guard Tyler Johnson. He’s been playing around 26-33 minutes the past 5 games and has had some very good fantasy performances mixed in with a few bad ones. Last game vs the Cavs he played 33 minutes and scored 33.1 fantasy points. The matchup here is ideal for him to have a big game vs the Hawks. They play at a 106 pace and have a 111 Team Defensive Efficiency Rating and they Allow 12% more fantasy points to Point Guards than the League Average.

Paul George has the #1 AND1 Rating tonight of 29.2 in his matchup vs the Kings today. On the Season the Kings have played at a 106 Pace and have a 108 Team Defensive Efficiency Rating. They also allow 5% more Fantasy Points to Small Forwards than the League Average. PG13 should continue his run towards league MVP and should be in line for a great game tonight!
