Flynnie’s Forecheck for 2/23/19
We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching, and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process, or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.
I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research Station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season. NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.
Take a peek at our latest winner. DFSA is on fire over NBA All Star Break and would love to help you learn the game of hockey, as well! Whether you are already a VIP or are just passing by, our coaches can teach the rookie and veteran alike. Congrats to Handleyrs for a near 300 score and over $850 in winnings!!

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 8-game slate.
*** DraftKings Main Slate locks at5 pm with 8 games, FanDuel’s Main Slate is 4 games that lock at 7 pm Eastern***
I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men, and goalies in order of my preference.
NHL FORWARDS
FLA 1 – Huberdeau, Barkov, Vatrano: The hottest line in the league (6 goals over the last three games) going against the worst defensive line recently (given up 9 goals in the last ten games)…yes, please. Mix and match as you see fit in all formats, you can add Ekblad or Yandle to your stacks as well.
PIT 2 – Kessel, Malkin, Aston-Reese: They have scored three goals in the last three games and should see a lot of ice time against PHI 3 who has given up five goals in the last three games. I expect ZAR to be one of the highest owned players on this slate, but I’m willing to eat that chalk in cash games. DISCLAIMER: This game is outside at Lincoln Financial Field and there may be some weather concerns. Check our slack chat for the best weather guy in the industry.
CBJ 1 – Duchene, Atkinson, Panarin: This is the first game on the DK main slate and it could cause some issues. The first one being the trade rumors surrounding Panarin (I’m assuming he stays now) and the trade yesterday for Duchene who will be playing his first game in the U.S. since the deal and may have visa issues. If Duchene and Panarin play (most likely scenario), then they will probably match up with SJ 2 which has been a disaster defensively and possibly break the slate.
Other expensive stacks
CAR 1 – Williams, Aho, Niederreiter
PIT 1 – Guentzel, Crosby, Rust
TOR 1 – Marner, Tavares, Hyman
MTL 1 – Drouin, Danault, Gallagher
TOR 2 – Marleau, Matthews, Kapanen – I love a game stack in this game in GPP’s mix and match both teams top 2 lines
MTL 2 – Shaw, Domi, Tatar
VAN 2 – Spooner, Pettersson, Boeser
NSH 1 – Arvidsson, Johanson, Forsberg
Filler Stack
COL 2 – Nieto, Soderberg, Rantanen
SJ 3 – Sorensen, Thornton, LaBanc
DAL 1 – Hintz, Seguin, Radulov – it’s a filler because the wings are so cheap and it isn’t a great matchup
ANA 3 – Silvferberg, Grant, Shore – I’m going to keep riding the Silfverberg train and the other two are cheap with decent floors
COL 3 – Landeskog, Jost, Calvert – COL is playing really well since mixing their lines, but the scoring is hard to pinpoint though. Line two has been hotter of late though.
Maybe prop bets are your thing, too? We are quickly expanding coverage into the different realms of sportsbetting!
DFS Studs on DEFENSE
Burns: I’m expecting a lot of goals in this game from both sides, especially if Korpisalo starts for CBJ. Burns is very expensive, but it’s rare that he doesn’t pay off that salary recently.
Pulock/Toews: Whichever one you can fit are both fine cash options. I prefer Pulock because he has a higher ceiling. Based on how I think this game goes, I don’t think either is going to win you a GPP tonight.
Letang: Always involved in the PITT scoring, I’m just hesitant to use him in cash tonight because of the potential weather issues. He makes a fantastic GPP play tonight.
Honorable Mentions: Josi, Graves, Lindell, Jones, Gostisbehere, Yandle, Ekblad, Sanheim, Weber, Rielly
GOALIES Set to Bring Value
**Stats over last three weeks unless otherwise noted**
McElhinney: 4-1-0/1.80/0.942 He is playing great lately and gets to match up against the Stars who are bottom of the barrel offensively. CAR has done a good job limiting goals and shots of late and DAL hasn’t been scoring or shooting much. I don’t think he has the highest ceiling but he is a very safe CASH/HYBRID option. Mrazek also in play if he starts.
Boyle: 1-1-0/1.51/0.955 He should get the start after Ryan Miller played last night in CGY. With Connor McDavid being suspended for the next two games, goalies against the Oilers should be a profitable venture. Neither team can do much offensively, but both teams limit shots well. I see this being low scoring and kind of boring to watch but neither goalie should kill your line up completely. GPP
Markstrom: 3-4-2/2.53/0.924 Another late night hammer goalie in an otherwise boring (on paper) game. Markstrom is probably going to be the lowest owned of these three. And he should be one of the lowest owned on the DK main slate. GPP
Honorable Mentions: Greiss, Luongo, Rinne, Andersen
GOAL PREDICTION: Elias Pettersson
