Flynnie's Forecheck - NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 2/20/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research Station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 20% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Take a peek at our latest winner.  DFSA is on fire over NBA All Star Break and would love to help you learn the game of hockey, as well!  Whether you are already a VIP or are just passing by, our coaches can teach the rookie and veteran alike.  Congrats to Handleyrs for a near 300 score and over $850 in winnings!!

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 9-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

NHL FORWARDS

COL 1 – Rantanen, MacKinnon, Landeskog: They are starting to get hot and draw a great match up tonight against WPG 1 that has given up seven goals in the last ten games and two in the last three. I’ve said many times that Nate at home is a thing and tonight is no different.

BOS 2 – Krejci, DeBrusk, Kuhlman: These guys are so cheap so normally I would put them in the “filler stack” section, but I will have heavy exposure to this line tonight. Fleury is a mess in net and has been worse at home. They should match up with VGK 2 who is bleeding goals: given up seven in the last 10 games. I know we put it in slack but I will say it again: PLAY KARSON KUHLMAN ON DK!! He is only $2500, playing on the second line and coming off scoring his first NHL goal. Also Krejci and DeBrusk are on the top PP unit.

DET 1 – Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi: I think these guys are a little sneaky with how popular Chicago is going to be. CHI’s top two lines are giving up a ton of goals lately. They have given up 16 goals in the last 10 games and 5 goals in the last three. So their match up likely doesn’t matter. CHI also has given up the most goals per game and most shots against per game over their last 10. This match up takes a bit of hit if Ward starts. I will be close to all in if Delia starts.

Other expensive stacks
BOS 1 – Bergeron, Marchand, Heinen
CHI 1 – Toews, Kane, Cagguila
CHI 2 – DeBrincat, Kahun, Strome
WPG 1 – Scheifele, Wheeler, Connor

Filler Stack

DET 3 – Athanasiou, Helm, Glendening – This is the only Filler Stack that I would have much exposure to. The others are MME only
NYI 2
NYI 3
CGY 4
BOS 4

DFS Studs on DEFENSE

Pulock: The Islanders can’t score much but Ryan Pulock is always in the mix. He offers a great floor too

D. Toews: NOT Jonathan (although, he’s a good play tonight too), Devon is a young puck-moving defenseman and being on the bottom pairing, I expect him to go a bit overlooked. He has 10 or more FD points in three of the last four games. In GPP’s tonight I like the idea of a #DoubleToews or Islanders #DoubleDs

Giordano: The second most expensive D on FD but he is performing well lately. I think he goes a little over looked because the Islanders have been so good defensively and there are a lot of studs to pay up for at the forward positions

Honorable Mentions: Krug, McAvoy, Keith, Gustafsson, Schmidt, Hronek, Green, Barrie, Myers

GOALIES Set to Bring Value

Greiss: 3-0-1/0.48/0.985 over the last four weeks. He is absolutely on fire right and should see a good amount of shots against CGY. NYI is giving up just over a goal and a half a game and Greiss is a major reason why. This isn’t confirmed yet, but he is projected. I like Lehner (3-2-0/2.41/0.919) also if he gets the start but prefer Greiss. Both are WAY too cheap on DK, and priced appropriately on FD. Greiss – ALL, Lehner – GPP

Halak: 2-0-2/1.66/0.947 over the last four weeks. For some reason he is an under dog in this game, check out Beat the Bookie to see if they agree with me. Vegas is not scoring much lately, just over 2 goals a game but they are shooting about 36 shots a game. That gives Halak a massive ceiling and I believe the win is relatively safe, so he also has a floor. ALL FORMATS

Varlamov: 2-3-3/2.89/0.918 He’s honestly not very good, but he can smash in this spot. WPG is struggling big time right now and COL is at home, where they always play much better. GPP

Honorable Mentions: Ward, Hellebuyck (MME only)

GOAL PREDICTION: Jake DeBrusk
