Flynnie's Forecheck - NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 2/16/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 10% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 9-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

FORWARDS

**Since there are a lot of good spots, I’ll highlight a few expensive stacks then give you some filler stacks**

BOS 1 – Heinen, Bergeron, Marchand: These three have been on a roll since coming together. They are incredibly expensive tonight, so you will need a cheap filler stack around them but if they get the match-up against the Kopitar line, it should be a big night for them. LAK 1 is a dumpster fire defensively allowing a ton of shot attempts and they’ve given up 4 goals in the last three games. This is the match-up of the best offensive line vs the worst defensive line over the last three games. If you think BOS 2 draws that match up, stack them! Either way Target Kopitar’s line, they are terrible defensively. I expect Krug and Heinen to be popular in cash games.

NSH 1 – Arvidsson, Forsberg, Johansen: Vegas is bleeding goals lately and their prices are coming down. This line has seven goals in the last 10 and four goals in the last three games. They should draw the match up with the Marchessault/Karlsson line that has given up 7 goals in the last ten. However that is with two different line mates (Smith and Pirri) and neither are enough to talk me off using these guys in a GPP.

TB 2: Kucherov, Point, Gourde: Kuch has three straight 40 point games. He’s on another level and I love the idea of this stack tonight. MTL is playing better defensively of late and I don’t they can match this firepower. MTL’s defensive prowess should drive this ownership down too.

Other expensive stacks:

TOR 2

WPG1

SJ2

CHI 1

CBJ 1

**FILLER STACKS**

CBJ2

BOS2

OTT 2

TOR 3

CAR 1

DEFENSE

Weber: He has the most FD points per game over the last 5 of any D-man on this slate and if MTL is scoring tonight he will be involved. He makes a good one off and is a key component of any MTL 1 or 2 stack. ALL FORMATS

Pulock: I’m not sure where the Islanders scoring will come from tonight, it’s very rare and hard to predict, but Ryan Pulock will be involved. He also has a terrific floor. ALL FORMATS

Rielly: Toronto is in a great spot to score plenty tonight. Rielly has the highest ceiling of any Leafs defenseman and he is averaging 18 FD points per game over the last 5 and that pace should continue. HYBRID

Honorable Mentions: Burns (only if Karlsson is out), Krug, Oesterle, Hedman, Gustafsson, Hamilton, Jones, Subban, Heiskanen

Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes

GOALIES

Greiss: 4-0-1/0.39/0.987 He is not confirmed at the time of this writing but both NYI goalies are in play. Greiss is just on another planet right. Look at that GAA and save % it is not sustainable but they are facing a bad Oilers team that just put up 40 shots on Carolina last night. NYI is better in terms of goals allowed, but they allow more shots. This could be a huge day for whichever Islander is between the pipes tonight. ALL FORMATS

Vasilevskiy: 5-1-2/2.07/0.934 He’s playing very well lately and TB is really starting to heat up. MTL can score in bunches, but this I think this is relatively safe for the win. His price will make him hard to fit, so I expect lower ownership (Domingue in play if he starts, no confirmation yet). HYBRID

Rask: 4-0-1/2.22/0.923 Rask is playing very well lately and gets a match up with the Kings who should slow the game down. I don’t expect much scoring in this game by either team. LAK doesn’t shoot a lot so I don’t believe he has GPP winning upside unless he gets a shutout. But he should put up a score that will keep you in the hunt in cash and smaller GPP’s. HYBRID

Honorable Mention: Rinne, Andersen, Nilsson (deep GPP, but WPG is trash lately), Khudobin, Markstrom, Ward (Can’t play this well forever, but he might be getting showcased for a trade)

GOAL PREDICTION: Viktor Arvidsson
