Flynnie's Forecheck - NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 2/5/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 10% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 12 -game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

FORWARDS

COL 1   – MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog: These guys (especially Nate) are always in play at home but tonight they have a juicy matchup. CBJ’s top 2 lines have given up 17 goals over the last ten games. So, it doesn’t really matter which line they match up with. To top it off, Bobrovsky is starting in net for the Jackets and he has been a mess lately with a GAA north of 4.00 and a save % around 0.800. In GPP’s run it back with pieces of CBJ 1, especially Panarin. The late night hammer game should have a ton of fireworks.

MIN 2 – Zucker, Staal, Granlund: Minnesota has finally shuffled their lineups to the point that their top 2 look like they belong in the NHL. Zucker and Granlund are way too cheap and I think Granlund is cash viable, Eric Staal is more expensive than the other two but he’s paying off his salary. I expect them to match up with BUF 2 and even if they draw Eichel’s line, they have Ullmark to deal with in net – he’s no Carter Hutton. I’m not going to over expose myself to MIN bc they play such a slow game, but I think this line will be less than 10% owned and do well for you in hybrid/GPP contests.

WPG 1 – Wheeler, Scheifele, Connor: They have scored six goals in the last ten games and three goals in the last three games (somehow not scoring 5 goals in the ANA beating the other night). SJ plays mediocre defense and targeting Martin Jones in goal has been lucrative this season. SJ will also score in this game, if you are running it back use either of SJ’s top two lines. My preference is SJ 2 (used to be SJ 3 – Kane, Donskoi, Hertl).

Honorable Mention: NSH 1 (you need pieces in all formats), WSH 1, CHI 1, PIT 1, SJ 2, CBJ 1/2, MTL 1/2 (prefer MTL 1), MTL 3 – sneaky and ANA is bleeding goals to everyone. DEEP GPP – ARI 1, CAR 1

We crush all sports, pro or college

DEFENSE

Burns – He’s one of the hottest defensemen in the league and his price reflects that. I expect fireworks in this game and Burnsy is always involved. He continues to be cash viable until Erik Karlsson come back.

Hedman – $1000 less than Burns and has a similar ceiling. I generally don’t like targeting guys against MA Fleury, but our boys over at Beat the Bookie love TB tonight and I can’t blame them.

Ellis – I love Nashville tonight and if you can’t afford Josi or the other big guns in your lineup, get your exposure through Ryan Ellis for a fraction of the cost. He doesn’t have the ceiling of Josi but has a similar floor.

Honorable Mentions: Petry, Letang, Morrissey, Trouba, Seabrook, Greene (punt), Hunt (min price punt), Spurgeon, Klefbom (first game back – should be a shootout)

Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes

GOALIES

Price: Easy number 1 option for me tonight. 5-3-0/1.89/0.939 over the last month and going against a team that can’t buy a win or a goal lately. MTL is not allowing many goals lately but they are allowing shots, which give Price a fantastic floor and ceiling. He even has a -215 money line in his favor. Lock him in your cash games and move on.

Binnington:  My GPP special! 6-1-1/1.63/0.933 over the last month and facing a Panthers team that is shooting the puck a ton but not scoring. He’s a young player and definitely not cash safe but he projects well on our research station as well.

Rask: 5-0-2/1.89/0.943 He’s the most expensive goalie on FD today. I don’t think he will make my cash games, but he needs to be in consideration in all formats. I think this game goes very low scoring and I’m avoiding all skaters. Rask has been hot and NYI has a middle of the pack offense. I don’t think faces enough shots to test his ceiling but he should be a very safe 20-25 points.

Honorable Mention: Saros (if he starts – avoid Rinne), Vasilevskiy, Dubnyk, Campbell (GPP only), Lehner -if you think NYI wins, Holtby (GPP)

GOAL PREDICTION: Patrick Kane
