DFS Madness's Draftkings NBA Tiers - Feb. 27th, 2019

Welcome to the DFS Army Draftkings Tiers breakdown! The Tiers breakdown will consist of a breakdown of all six tiers on Draftkings and why you should or shouldn’t play some of these guys! My name is Michael aka @MadnessDFS on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the article and just because I like to think I’m a great Twitter follow (high hopes). But, you’ll mostly find me in our VIP coaching forums where I provide detailed lineup maneuvers and answer all lineup questions. With that said, let’s get it started!

Tier One:

If you gave the Full Court Press a read, you’ll know that I am all over LeBron James tonight. LeBron James is probably the favorite to score the most fantasy points on the slate. These two teams just played and LeBron scored 64.75 fantasy points and has scored in three of his last four games. James is doing whatever he needs to do to try and get this team to the playoffs.  Karl-Anthony Towns is coming off a monster 70 point fantasy game and will look to stay hot here, as the Hawks rank 26th in defensive efficiency against opposing centers. I’m a little hesitant to go with Giannis here because of the blowout risk, but he stands out as a great GPP option.

Tier Two:

Just a little bit ago we got news that DeMarcus Cousins will be rested tonight which opens up usage for Kevin Durant and Steph Curry. With Cousins off the court this season here is how these two shake out…

  • Kevin Durant – 32.7% usage rate; 1.4 fantasy points per minute
  • Steph Curry – 33.8% usage rate; 1.44 fantasy points per minute

To me, this tier comes down to those two, whichever one you prefer Picking which one will have a great night is nearly impossible given their abilities. Luka Doncic stands out as an elite GPP play, he’s a walking triple-double and can put up fantasy points in a hurry. Kyrie Irving burned me last night, and it is starting to look like he has checked out, he is my least favorite option of this tier.

Tier Three:

Bradley Beal highlights tier three for me. Beal is the best play on the team and is scorching hot at the moment. Beal has scored 50+ in six of his last seven games and has played 40 minutes in all of his past four games. The Wizards are clearly fine with giving him all the minutes he can handle right now. The Nets aren’t exactly elite on defense either, Beal should have no problem doing whatever he wants here. D’Angelo Russell is a good play here as well, he draws the best matchup of the five but can be volatile. If deciding between Drummond and Griffin I would prefer Drummond who is better at a per minute basis.

I want to give a shoutout to bryan1426 as he was able to take down a GPP last night! Congrats bud! If you’re looking to create multiple lineups using your player pool, head on over to the Domination Station. This link will give you a quick tutorial on how to use the optimizer. The Domination Station is a great way to incorporate our projections with your own player pool to produce ideal lineups to help you play like an expert.

Tier Four:

With DeMarcus Cousins out tonight, this tier becomes a little more interesting. Rudy Gobert stands out as a great option here. The Clippers rank 26th in defense against centers on the season and just don’t have the size to keep up with Gobert on both ends of the court. Trae Young destroyed Chris Paul and the Rockets last game out after I said not to play him. Truth is, this kid can score and draws a pretty decent matchup in a face paced game against the Timberwolves. Lauri Markkanen is only in play in cash if Dunn and Porter sit in my opinion. His price has come way up, but for good reason. Markkanen has averaged 50.6 Draftkings points per game in his last five games, but it’s not an easy matchup against Jonas Valanciunas and company.

Tier Five:

Julius Randle stands out as a top play from this tier. Randle has minutes into the upper 30’s in his last two games. The Lakers rank 29th against opposing power forwards on the season. Jrue Holiday is right up there with Randle for me. Holiday is playing well right now as well, I’m willing to go there in a high paced game with Anthony Davis soaking up less usage. Some GPP options include the bottom three guys pictured, my favorite of the three being Jonas Valanciunas. He has scored 40+ fantasy points in his last two games and should see around 30 minutes against Robin Lopez and company. Of those guys the Domination Station has Jusuf Nurkic projected to score the most of this tier.

Tier Six:

We need to start with Marvin Bagley who is one of the hotter big men in the league. Bagley has scored 45+ fantasy points in four of his last five games. The matchup isn’t great, but I tend to believe in hot streaks which puts him in play in this tier. Klay Thompson sees a 28.1% usage rate with Cousins off the floor this season and is averaging 1.02 fantasy points per minute, making him a strong option. I don’t really have much interest in Anthony Davis, that whole situation is just a mess, but his name will draw ownership. Buddy Hield will be needed if the Kings are going to be able to keep that game close, so he makes for a good GPP option. Finally, Brandon Ingram is in the highest total game on the slate so you could do much worse than him.
