NHL Puck Drop with MDell Position Breakdown Advice Strategy Tips for Fanduel Hockey Jan. 29th

Hello folks and welcome to my NHL Positional Breakdown for Fanduel!

For those of you who are new to the DFS Army, new to NHL DFS, or just like to read different articles, my name is Matt Dell’Agnese and I’m an MLB and NHL coach and writer for the DFS Army. Hit me for a follow on twitter at mdellagnese14. If you are a DFS Army VIP member you will know that I’m fairly active in our NHL rooms and around to help coach for the amazing sport of Hockey. I was brought to the DFS Army in January and I wrote Painting the Black for baseball, analyzing pitching picks for the slates. If you’ve played MLB, NHL is very similar. The sports are both volatile and players can put up a 0 or low score at any time. Don’t get discouraged if you get cold, just keep with your process and the players will come around. For cash games, you want to correlate players who skate on the same line or same Power play line, in GPPs stack up the full lines. Thankfully, Chop has asked me to help out with our NHL content articles!

I will be breaking down each position with the players who I like with my reasonings for liking them on the slate! I am a Fanduel player, so these articles will include Fanduel pricing and scoring references! Remember to always check for confirmation of goalies and lines!

All Stats are over the Last 10 games unless noticed otherwise! This is a rough slate and should be played light and GPPs only! Let’s dive in!

Goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky (CBJ) (8.3k FD) (8k DK): Bob is going to be the chalk today across all contests. It’s a small 3-game slate so we need to get a little funky. That being said, I think he still has the opportunity to score 20+ on fanduel tonight. The Sabres are shooting 33.7 shots/game in their last 10 but are scoring the lowest on this small slate.

Connor Hellebuyck (WPG) (8.5k FD) (7.6k DK): Like I said, GPP only type slate. Helle got the night off last night and the Jets came out very flat. Tonight is a tough matchup with the Bruins, but there’s the upside for a ton of saves. Boston is shooting 34 shots/game and the Jets are allowing 34 shots/game. High risk, high reward.

Centers

Mika Zibanejad (6.8k FD) (6.6k DK): Zib has been playing amazing since the ASB hit. Before that, he was on a 3 point streak with 2 games of 2 goals. He has 7 points in his last 3 games and is in another great spot tonight. The Flyers played last night and the matchup with Stolarz is wonderful. Zib is going to be a key in my lineups tonight.

Sean Couturier (6.5k FD) (5.2k DK): Couturier has been playing well lately too. I love this game for a game stack tonight. The Rangers are allowing over 4 goals per game in their last 10 and Couturier has averages 19.6 FD points in his last 10 games. Him, along with Zib are the two hottest players in their last 5 games too.

Pierre-Luc Dubois (5.8k FD) (5.8k DK): CBJ1 is likely going to be chalky and this slate, chalk can bust but I do like the spot for him. I like the other two above more, but he’s been playing great. He’s always involved in the CBJ scoring and against Hutton, they should be able to score a few.

Jack Eichel (7.3k FD) (7.5k DK): I don’t think I’ll use too much BUF tonight, but this is a way to go against the grain and stack against the chalk goalie. In his last 5 he has 1 goal, 2 assists, but has 18 shots on goal.

Others to consider: Bryan Little, David Krejci

Wings

Cam Atkinson (7.4k FD) (7.7k DK): He’s always cheaper than Panarin on FD, but on DK its opposite. I prefer Cam on FD and Panarin on DK. Pair them both up too as they have been on fire. Combined, they are averaging nearly 40 FD points in their last 5 games and are the mainstays in the CBJ offense.

Artemi Panarin (7.9k FD) (6.6k DK): Panarin is in a great spot and is our 2nd projected wing on the slate tonight. He’s been on fire before the break and will look to keep it going in a good matchup. In his last 5, he has 4 goals and 2 assists.

James Van Riemsdyk (6k FD) (5k DK): I like pairing JVR with Couturier on the PHI1 power play line. He’s been on fire lately and now that he is healthy is crushing the game. He has 6 goals in his last 5 games along with 15 shots.

Chris Kreider (6.5k FD) (5.8k DK): Pair him up with Zib tonight. Was bad last game, but before that had either 3 or 4 SOG in each game. He has upside in this matchup with PHI.

Filip Chytil (4.2k FD) (3.8k DK): Chytil has been playing great lately for the Rangers. He has 3 goals in his last 5 games and has been shooting the puck 3-4 times per game.

Peter Cehlarik (3.6k FD) (3.3k DK): Great value here with BOS2. You can stack him up with Krejci and DeBrusk if you’d like. He’s only played 3 games with BOS, but gets right into the top 6 and had 2 goals, 1 assist and 6 SOGBS in 3 games.

Others to consider: Blake Wheeler, BOS1, WPG2, Wayne Simmonds, Travis Konecny

Defense

Seth Jones (5.7k FD) (5.9k DK): Jones was banged up during the ASG, but should be good to go here tonight. The Sabres are awful right now, allowing 3.5 goals/game of late. Before the break, Jones was averaging 14.3 FD points in his last 5 games before the ASB, that’s good for 2nd highest on this slate today on D.

Rasmus Dahlin (4.8k FD) (4.8k DK): Dahlin has been the guy for Buffalo on D. He’s been playing better than Risto and he’s the guy I prefer right now. Dahlin has 24 SOGBS in his last 5 games and is scoring the most FD points at the D position. He’s trending in the right way too as his L5 is up 7 points from this L10.

Jacob Trouba (4.8k FD) (5.1k DK): I believe WPG is going to come out firing tonight against Halak. Trouba has been great of late and has had a floor of about 8 points. He has 39 SOGBS in his last 10 games and 22 in his last 5! He’s blocking and shooting a ton and could pick up another assist tonight.

Travis Sanheim (3.9k FD) (3.7k DK): Sanheim has been playing pretty good of late. He has the 4th highest SOGBS in his last 5 games and Philly has a great matchup in New York tonight. Obviously, there is a risk here, but he’s dirt cheap in a good matchup.

Others to consider: Kevin Shattenkirk
