Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA Slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In NBA DFS there will be situations that come up that will lead to bench players getting more minutes. Some may even enter the starting lineup. The low cost of these players will allow us to spend up across the rest of our lineups. Wich gives us the ability to lock in some high dollar studs.
My Favorite NBA Free Squares for Today January 1st
💥 CJ McCollum POR SG $6,100
The Blazers and the Kings have the 2nd highest total on the slate tonight currently sitting at 230. The Blazers are projected to score about 107 points and are in a solid Pace up spot here tonight vs the Kings. Against Shooting Guards this year the Kings have allowed 7% more fantasy points than the league average. Overall they have an awful 109 team defensive efficiency and they play at a 107 pace. Bad Defense + Fast Pace = Fantasy Points! McCollum has been steady for the Blazers all year and over his last 5 games he has averaged 34 minutes and 31.6 fantasy points per game. $6,100 is too cheap for him in this matchup tonight.
💥 Noah Vonleh NYK PF $6,200
The Knicks are pretty awful this year and against on the Road at Denver is one of the toughest matchups in the league. They are currently 13 point underdogs and this game could get ugly quickly. Noah Vonleh should be a safe play regardless of the game situation and he’s been playing solid over his last 5 games. He has averaged 33 minutes and 34 fantasy points per game. He has scored over 30 fantasy points in 5 straight games. His role on this team should remain pretty steady even if Kanter’s minutes pick back up.
💥 Lou Williams LAC SG $6,400
The Clippers and Sixers game has the highest total on the slate tonight currently sitting at 235.5. Lou Wiliams has been one of the hottest players in the league since he returned from an injury. Over his last 5 games he has averaged 29 minutes and 33.2 fantasy points per game. The Sixers are not bad vs Shooting Guards, allowing 5% fewer fantasy points to the position than the league average. However, I love Lou in this spot in a competitive high scoring game.
💥 Giannis Antetokounmpo MIL SF $12,400
Giannis is far from “FREE” tonight but on this slate with the Questionable status of Joel Embid he’s the clear cut #1 player on the slate. The raw matchup vs Detriot is nothing to write home about as they have a 106 Defensive Efficiency and allow 5% fewer fantasy points to SF than the league average. However, Giannis has been on another level recently over his last 3 games he has averaged 34 minutes and 68.3 fantasy points. He’s got the highest Floor and the Highest Ceiling on this slate and with only 5 games tonight I’ll be starting 100% of my cash lineups with him.

However, he’s currently listed as Questionable so #2 on the list is Nuggets Center Nikola Jokic with a 22.7 rating vs the Knicks. Check out the Rest of the Top 3 at each position below.
