Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA Slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In NBA DFS there will be situations that come up that will lead to bench players getting more minutes. Some may even enter the starting lineup. The low cost of these players will allow us to spend up across the rest of our lineups. Wich gives us the ability to lock in some high dollar studs.

My Favorite NBA Free Squares for Today – December 28th
💥 Dennis Schroder OKC SG $5,600
We just got news that Paul George will be out today for OKC. With George off the floor, we have Dennis Schroder at 37.2% usage and 1.11 fp/min. Schroder has not been hot recently over his last 5 games he has averaged 28 minutes and 18.6 fantasy points per game. I’m not going to let his recent struggles scare me away from him tonight. The matchup is elite vs the Suns who allow 10% more fantasy points to shooting guards than the league average. They also have an overall Defensive Efficiency rating of 110. The Vegas total for this game is 226.5 and the Thunder are projected to score 117 points tonight. It doesn’t get much better than this from a pure matchup perspective for Schroder tonight.
💥 Bradley Beal WAS SG $8,400
We got the news early this morning that John Wall would be OUT and Markief Morris is Doubtful for tonight’s game vs the Bulls. With John Wall and Markiek Morris off the floor Brad Beal has a 36% (+7.2%) usage rate and averages 1.60 fp/min. The Matchup vs the Bulls is pretty elite as they have a team Defensive Efficiency rating of 108. While they allow 1% fewer fantasy points to shooting guards than the league average I’m not going to let that scare me away from Beal tonight. In his last 5 games, Beal has averaged 40 minutes and 45.6 fantasy points per game. He’s a lock for me tonight in Cash Games with John Wall out.
I can’t mention Beal without mentioning Tomas Satoransky and to a lesser extent Trevor Ariza. With Wall out Satoranksy will likely start at Point Guard tonight for the Wizards. We’ve seen his floor and we’ve seen his ceiling in recent weeks but with Wall out he should be locked into around 30 minutes tonight. He is priced at just $3,800 on Fanduel and will likely be the default drop score candidate for most people in their cash games.
Trevor Ariza is also fully in play tonight without John Wall. He’s been very solid since coming over from the Suns. In his last 5 games, he has averaged 39 minutes and 33.9 fantasy points per game. He’s a great mid-tier price play tonight at only $6,100 on Fanduel.

💥 LA Lakers with LeBron James and Rajon Rondo OUT
Last night we saw the young Lakers go off in their 1st game this year with LeBron James and Rajon Rondo both off the floor. Kyle Kuzma played 40 minutes and scored 43.8 fantasy points. Lonzo Ball played 36 minutes and scored 55.8 fantasy points. Brandon Ingram played 37 minutes and played 32.6 fantasy points. Tonight against the LA Clippers all 3 of these guys are fully in play once again. This game currently has the highest total of the night at 230. The Clippers play at a 104 pace and have a team defensive efficiency rating of 109. I’ll be loading up on all 3 of these guys again tonight.
💥 Russell Westbrook OKC PG $11,500
With George out Westbrook is going to get a significant usage increase up to 33.2%. He averages 1.62 fp/min with George off the floor and has an elite matchup tonight vs the Suns who simply can not stop opposing point guards. On the year they have allowed 10% more fantasy points to point guards than the league average. Over his last 5 games Westbrook has averaged 35 minutes and 54.8 fantasy points per game. The Thunder have played the Suns 3 times this year, but Westbrook only played in the 1st meeting. He scored 50.3 fantasy points in 31 minutes in that game.

We’ve gotten a lot of injury news today which has lead to several players being in elite spots for tonight’s slate. I’ll try to highlight a few here below

— 32.9% usage (+5.3%) and averages 1.16 fp/min
PG – Fred VanVleet with Kyle Lowry OUT
— 2.9% usage increase and averages 1.0 fp/min
PG – JJ Barea 30.3% with Wes Matthews OUT
— 30.3% usage and 1.30 fp/min
SG – Jrue Holiday with Nikola Mirotic OUT
— 25.8% usage and 1.22 fp/min
SF – Kawi Leonard with Kyle Lowry OUT
— 35.4% usage rate and averages 1.40 fp/min
SF – Trevor Ariza with Wall and Morris OUT
— 21.1% usage and 0.98 fp/min
PF – Pascal Siakam with Kyle Lowry OUT
— 2.1% usage increase and 1.01 fp/min
PF – Jeremi Grant with Paul George OUT
— 20.4% usage and 0.80 fp/min
