DFS NBA Lineup Strategies - Draftkings and Fanduel Advice - Dec 30th

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande . I’m a contributor and coach over here at the DFS Army.

I just got a shiny new channel, so join me in #blande-nba-wnba!

It’s another Sunday, so let’s sit back, play light and have some fun. There’s a lot of news breaking out there and impending information we are watching that will alter the slate. Keep a close eye on the news channels throughout the day today. That said, let’s take a look at some of the top plays tonight.

It’s Q Chasing Season, and we have a few staff members who have already locked down their spots!

Point Guards

Lonzo Ball – (6500/6700): Lonzo Ball is a virtual lock for me on both site in all formats. He will be chalky, but this is chalk you want to eat. The Kings can’t stop shooting guards, and with no LBJ or Rondo, Ball will have the ball in his hands a lot. He is too cheap for this matchup.

Ben Simmons – (9600/8500): Ben Simmons is an excellent GPP play *IF* Embiid is out tonight. Simmons gets a slight boost in both usage and fantasy output with Embiid out, making him a good GPP play. His matchup is also a good one and he makes for an excellent pivot of the more expensive Russell Westbrook or even Damian Lillard.

Tyler Johnson – (4700/5400): Tyler Johnson is the ultimate pivot off of what will be a very chalky Tyus Jones. Johnson is my go to play here in all formats at the low-priced PG range, especially on FD. With all the illnesses and injuries plaguing the Heat right now, he’ll have a chance at playing massive minutes tonight.

Shooting Guards

Jimmy Butler – (8300/6700): Jimmy Butler is an all-format play on both sites *IF* Joel Embiid is out. This is a no-brainer. Butler crushes when Embiid is out. He is ridiculously cheap on DK. I’m going all in on Butler if Embiid is out tonight on DK. I’ll also be overweight the field on FD in this scenario as well.

CJ McCollum – (6300/6100): CJ McCollum makes for an excellent GPP play tonight. He’ll be low-owned given the other options on this slate at the position, making him a nice pivot off chalkier plays like Doncic, Hield, and Wiggins. The 76ers have not defended the SG position well, making the spot even better for McCollum.

Josh Hart – (3700/4700): We have a massive price discrepancy here. Josh Hart is massively underpriced on FD. He’s virtually a lock there with the drop-score format. Just plug him in and move on. On DK, he is still cheap enough for the minutes he is getting and his production. He just put up 27 DKPs against these Kings a few days ago. He’s in play on both sites.

Small Forwards

Kawhi Leonard – (10200/9200): With Lowry most likely out again tonight, Leonard will continue to do the heavy lifting for the Raptors. The matchup against the Bulls is an excellent one for him. I love everything about this spot for Leonard, and he makes for a great pivot off PG13 who will garner some ownership on this slate.

Justice Winslow – (6400/6500): Justice Winslow is a good GPP play here today. He stands to benefit from all the players dealing with illnesses on this Heat team today. In the likelihood all those players are out or the majority of them are, Winslow will see an increase in usage and productivity, making him a good play. He is priced right around value on both sites.

Wilson Chandler – (4200/3800): Wilson Chandler is more of a FD drop-score candidate value play. He only really comes into play if Embiid misses this game. In this scenario, he’ll get more of a chance at getting peripheral stats and has the ability to exceed value. Chandler is extremely inconsistent, so do not play him in cash lineups.

Power Forwards

Serge Ibaka – (6700/5700): Ibaka gets the best matchup for centers in the league, and for some reason, both sites (especially DK) forgot to price him up accordingly. I basically have Ibaka locked into all my DK lineups. On FD, he makes for an excellent play as well. I’m overweight on Ibaka on both sites and in all formats. You can’t get a better spot than this, and Ibaka has shown some massive upside.

Kyle Kuzma – (7200/7700): As long as LBJ is out, Kuzma is in play. Add to that the excellent matchup he gets tonight against the Kings, and you have all the makings of a nice game here from him. Now, Kuzma is priced fairly on both sites, and it will be difficult for him to crush value, but 6-7x value is right around where you’ll expect him to be tonight. I’ll take that today.

Dwight Powell – (3800/3500): Powell could see an increased workload is Jordan can’t go today. In this situation, he becomes a very nice play on FD as a drop-score candidate. It’s a tough matchup for him against Steven Adams, but you can’t turn your back on someone at 3.8k if he will get close to 30 minutes. Only a FD play if Jordan is out.

Center

Hassan Whiteside – (8000/7100): Whiteside only played 17 minutes on Friday, due mainly to foul trouble. He is well rested for this matchup against KAT. Whiteside has performed well against KAT in the past, and KAT is still giving up quite a lot of fantasy points to opposing centers, making Whiteside one of the top centers on this slate. It’s still Whiteside, so he is more of a GPP play than a cash play.

Jusuf Nurkic – (8200/7000): Nurkic becomes the top option at this position if Joel Embiid is out. Without Embiid, the 76ers will have no one to stop Nurkic from dominating down low. He’ll be in prime position to have himself a career night (or more realistically, to try to achieve the career night he had against the 76ers last season when Embiid was out). If Embiid plays, Nurkic is only playable in GPPs.

That’s it for the early article, I’ll have notes later on for you, and I’ll be covering the news for you today. So stay tuned to the coaches and news channel. Good luck out there tonight Army!
