NHL Advice – Overview and Early Games
9 game slate tonight. Nice size for cash and gpps alike. Very small late/mini slates with a 3 game express and 2 game late. Our top ITTs are: Tampa Bay (3.54), New Jersey (3.2), Detroit and Vancouver (possible shootout with both at 3.00ish), and San Jose (2.99). These are typical offenses you want to start looking into. Big Vegas favorite is Tampa at -190 with a smattering of others at -140ish. That helps determine your goalie. Keep it simple, folks.
Montreal Canadians @ New York Rangers

Not a lot to see here for DFS other than to show you our sexy Research Station graphics for game by game stats. I like to look at a team’s recent production and seeing their season along side their L10 (previous 10 games) helps me do that very quickly. Montreal is producing of late as their season goals for is 3.07 and their L10 is a decent jump of 3.30. I get excited at a 0.50 jump or higher, but this is close. But, lower team implied goals 2.8 for MTL and 2.83 for NYR have me looking elsewhere unless I find a hot skater as a one-off play or cheap defenseman with a high shot or block floor.
L5 FPG (Fantasy Point per Game last 5 games) Leaders – MTL – Gallagher, Domi, Drouin, NYR – Skjei, Pionk, Zibanejad
Value Plays – MTL – Tatar, NYR – Skjei, Pionk
Dallas Stars @ Columbus Blue Jackets

Two teams under 3 implied goals won’t excite me. But, there is a play or two I may use here. Columbus has been giving up goals of late at 3.64 goals against on the year and 4.0 in their L10. I only wish Dallas was scoring to capitalize on that trend. I’m not intimidated by the Stars 2.40 goals per game lately. Bobrovsky is in play tonight as a shorter list goalie or a GPP pivot off the likely chalky Vasilevsky in Tampa.
L5 FPG Leaders – DAL – Lindell, Shore, Benn, CBJ – DuBois, Atkinson, Panarin
Value Plays – DAL – Lindell, Shore, CBJ – None cheap enough to be called “value.”
Vegas Golden Knights @ Toronto Maple Leafs

Vegas has struggled offensively this year, and while Toronto got off to a hot start, they cooled off rather quickly. I would like to see a higher total out of Vegas in order to target this game heavily, but the TOR1 is worth stacking tonight in GPPs being they are the key producers on this team right now.
L5 FPG Leaders – VGK – Tuch, Theodore, Marchessault, TOR – Tavares, Marner, Rielly
Value Plays – VGK – Tuch, Theodore, TOR – Kapanen, Hyman

Edmonton Oilers @ Tampa Bay Lightning

Edmonton carries one of the more electric players in the league in Connor McDavid to the ice, and he is in play nightly for GPPs, but I’m not sure I’m using Oilers against the likely chalk in Tampa Bay tonight. Vasilevskiy carries a better than 50% chance to win tonight and a .918 save % into this home ice game. Tampa skaters have the highest implied total, as well, and have scored 3.8 goals on average over their last ten home games.
L5 FPG Leaders – EDM – McDavid, Draisaitl, Klefbom, TBL – McDonagh, Point, Gourde
Value Plays – EDM – Caggulia, Chaisson, TBL – Stralman
New Jersey Devils @ Ottawa Senators

New Jersey scoring lately and Ottawa giving them up makes this a fairly easy target tonight. However, Ottawa can score themselves, especially at home. Jersey is not the defensive minded team we are used to seeing this year, by the numbers. This is a potential shootout, so it’s odd we see such a low total on the Senators tonight.
L5 FPG Leaders – NJD – Hall, Zajac, Palmieri, OTT – Chabot, Strome, Dzingel
Value Plays – NJD – Zajac, OTT – Chabot, Ceci
Vancouver Canucks @ Detroit Red Wings

Vancouver, however, is a goal suppression team. The pink on the above graphic isn’t a good sign for an anemic Detroit club. Detroit is among the leaders in goals allowed, as well. I would lean to Vancouver for most of the action if I wanted pieces of this one.
L5 FPG Leaders – VAN – Petterson, Boeser, Gaunce, Virtanen, Granlund, DET – Larkin, Nyquist, Bertuzzi
Value Plays – VAN – Gaunce, Virtanen, Granlund, DET – Rasmussin
What Our VIPs Are Saying About Learning DFS NHL

2nd place in a gpp is always nice. We talked a little in slack (VIP only) yesterday about where the chalk would be and how to pivot. Joker was kind enough to mention his inspiration, as I had forgotten…being a true chalk-eater. I wasn’t going to play this combo, but I don’t shy away from recommending opportunities for those that will…

Our coaching is incredibly good, and we have the members chirping!

NHL Strategy – Late Games
Carolina Hurricanes @ St. Louis Blues

Carolina shoots a ton, and St. Louis has had very up and down defensive games this year. The Blues goals against is among the worst in the league over their last 10 home games at a gross 4.20 per game. Carolina might not fully capitalize on this defense, but they could. The Blues, however, also have one of the best offenses rolling across multiple lines and are no easy task for any team to defend.
L5 FPG Leaders – CAR – Hamilton, Teravainen, Staal, Faulk, STL – O’Reilly, Tarasenko, Sanford, Dunn, Pietrangelo, Bozak, Edmunson, Sunqvist
Value Plays – CAR – None, STL – Sanford, Edmunson, Sunqvist
Anaheim Ducks @ Los Angeles Kings

A little boring on paper, but not a completely worthless game for fantasy. Anaheim’s scoring is somewhat concentrated to a few key places, and LA has been allowing goals of late. LA shoots the puck, and the Ducks give up tons of shots. I like the upside of a John Gibson in net tonight, but realize it’s not without some risk.
L5 FPG Leaders – ANA – Getzlaf, Fowler, Rakell, Aberg, LAK – Brown, Doughty, Kopitar
Value Plays – ANA – Aberg, LAK – None
Minnesota Wild @ San Jose Sharks

This is perhaps the game I’d most enjoy watching. Both teams are solid and it should be a preview of a potential playoff matchup down the road. MIN has turned up the scoring recently, and SJ isn’t a defensive team. San Jose has counterpunch power and MIN hasn’t defended well, including a bottom 5 ranking in shots allowed on goal. I hope this game lives up to it’s billing as an up and down offensive game.
L5 FPG – MIN – Granlund, Staal, Suter, Brodin, Dumba, SJS – Meier, Burns, Couture, Hertl
Value Plays – MIN – Seeler, SJS – None
