NBA Free Squares November 9th

Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA Slate.

So what is a Free Square exactly? In NBA DFS there will be situations that come up that will lead to bench players getting more minutes. Some may even enter the starting lineup. These players will often be priced as backups (their normal role). The increase in their minutes and role will give us someone we can plug into our lineups and expect them to reach or exceed value. The low cost of these players will allow us to spend up across the rest of our lineups. Wich gives us the ability to lock in some high dollar studs.

Free Square Results for yesterday – November 8th

Paul George + Dennis Schroder – 58.20/25.70 fp – 5.54/3.67x value
Kevin Durant – 33.50 fp – 3.10x value
Steven Adams – 42.50 fp – 7.32x value (draftkings)
Kyrie Irving – 65.40 fp – 7.69x value
Jordan Bell – 20.50 fp – 5.85x value

Overall (Fanduel No Adams) – 203.30 fp – 5.17x value

Schroder came back down to earth a little only scoring 25.70 fantasy points. Paul George picked him up however dropping 58.20 and the 2 combined for 4.60x value which isn’t too bad. Kevin Durant was off last night as the Warriors got smacked around by Giannis and the Bucks. Steph Curry getting injured didn’t help KD at all. I’ve said many times Curry is the reason the Warriors are so amazing. Steven Adams crushed on DK where his price was just ridiculous, and he did well on Fanduel hitting 5.38x value. Jordan Bell didn’t do anything spectacular but I’ll take 5.85x value from a min priced guy any day. Kyrie Irving absolutely smashed vs the Suns and got the Benefit of OT.

We have a solid 7 game Friday night slate tonight. We also have 4 smaller slates to attack on Fanduel if we chose to do so. The highest game total of the night is 232 in Sacramento where the Kings will host the visiting T’Wolves. The Hornets and 76ers are 2nd at 226 while the Pistons and Hawks round out the Top 3 at 225.5. The highest Team Totals on the night belong to the T’Wolves (117.8) the 76’ers (116) and the Pistons (115.3).

My Favorite NBA Free Squares for Today – November 9th

💥 Derrick Rose – MIN – PG – $6,000

Jeff Teague is out again tonight and for some reason Derrick Rose is still only priced at $6,000 on Fanduel tonight. The T’Wolves have the highest team total on the slate at 117.8 which is around 6 points higher than their season average 110.6. The Sacramento Kings play at the fastest pace on the slate (109) and allow 6% more fantasy points to point guards than the rest of the NBA. Derrick Rose is averaging 34 minutes and 37.6 fantasy points per game over his last 5 games on roughly 20 shots per game. Fast pace game ☑ vs a Bad Defense ☑ Minutes Secured ☑ – he checks all the boxes for me tonight. He’s going to be a plug and play option for me tonight as this situation couldn’t be much better.

💥 Tyler Johnson – MIA – PG – $4,700

News dropped early this morning that Goran Dragic was going to miss tonight’s game. Also, Dwyane Wade and Derrick Jones will be out as well. The absense of these players will force usage into the hands of players like Tyler Johnson, Justice Winslow, Josh Richadson, Rodney McGruder and Hassaan Whiteside. Without Dragic and Wade this year Tyler Johnson has a +5.3% usage increase and +9.12 fp per 36 min. He’s coming off a great game vs the Spurs where he scored 29.60 fantasy points in 31 minutes of action. I’m expecting a similar performance tonight against the Indiana Pacers from Tyler Johnson.

💥 Buddy Hield – SAC – SG – $7,400

The T’Wolves have the worst Defensive Efficiency rating on the slate tonight at 113 (100 is league average). They rank 26th in the NBA this year and allowing 117.4 points per game. The Kings are not great defensively either, with a 108 Defensive Efficiency rating. When two terrible defensive teams matchup against one another it should be a great spot for some DFS Goodness. Buddy Hield is having a breaking year, averaging over 20 points per game this season for the Kings. He’s clearly the goto option in this offense and he should shine tonight in this matchup. In his last 5 games he’s averaging 39.1 fantasy points on 33 minutes per game. Buddy Hield should fly under the radar tonight while everyone else chases the cheap value in Miami.

💥 Justise Winslow – MIA – SF – $5,600

Speaking of cheap value in Miami, here we have Justice Winslow. As you saw above in the blurb about Tyler Johnson, the Heat will be without Gordan Dragic and Dwyane Wade tonight. Without Dragic and Wade this year Justise Winslow has a +4.0% usage increase and +5.79 fp per 36 min. The matchup against the Pacers is not ideal, as they allow -2% less fantasy points to Small Forwards than the rest of the league. However, the extra usage and minutes from Winslow tonight should allow him to easily pay off his $5,600 price tag. Over his last 5 games he’s averaging 31 minutes per game and 27.9 fantasy points. I’m looking for 28-32 fantasy points from Winslow tonight.

💥 Juan Hernangomez – DEN – SF – $3,900

A great value play tonight is Denver SF Juan Hernangomez. Over his last 5 games he’s playing 27 minutes per game and scoring 27.2 fantasy points per game. Tonight he and the Nuggets get a matchup at home vs the Brooklyn Nets who aren’t really known for their defensive prowess. On Fanduel he’s a great Drop Score candidate, priced at only $3,900 a failure from him wont tank your entire lineup.

💥 Wayne Ellington – MIA – SG – $3,800

This is a more risky Drop Score candidate tonight. We know about the missing players for the Heat tonight (Dragic/Wade) so there should be some extra court time tonight for Wayne Ellington. In his last game in this situation (without Dragic and Wade) he played 37 minutes and scored 30.3 fantasy points. Before that game however, he only played 4 minutes and 8 minutes in his first two games of the season coming back from injury. Neither Hernangomez or Ellington are plays that make me feel all warm and fuzzy tonight but the game situations should allow them to reach and exceed 5x value.
