NBA DFS Punt Plays and Drop Score Candidates Advice for Fanduel - Nov 1

With the new NBA DFS scoring system on Fanduel this season, many of us are left scratching our heads.  Do we punt a player and upgrade all the savings to more studs?  Or, do we build a more balanced roster and just drop the low?  Either way you slice it, punt plays are allowing your opponents to take more shots at you now more than ever with nearly nothing to lose.  Many of us cashed last night even with the late scratch of Tyus Jones simply because we could take that zero and build a great roster anyway being he was only $3500.

Let’s look at some under $4000 punt plays tonight, with upside to keep their scores, and see if we can’t pull off a little magic again.

And1 NBA DFS Rating System

At DFS Army, we have a proprietary rating system hidden deep inside our Research Station we like to use as a catch all matchup metric called the And1.  Weighing in such factors as home teams, DVP, usage, trending minutes, pace of play, and many other things possibly including the weather outside for all I know, our metric has been great for getting rookies off the ground and centering veteran NBA players alike.

Nerlens Noel – Based on our system, Noel is a prime punt play.  Anything over 8 is a good play; anything over 10.0 is even stronger.  With a standard 13-15 minutes, we can usually count on about 18 points from Noel, which isn’t bad for a $3600 player and “drop candidate.”  However, if grabbing starter minutes of 25+, Noel is capable of a double-double and 50+ points.  That is a sick score for a sub $4k punt.

Avery Bradley – Bradley’s floor is crap…like 3 points of crap.  But, when a drop candidate, who cares?  We do want some safety, but as a GPP type play, we only want the upside.  Grabbing a steady 24 min per game, the Clippers are sitting in a higher total game according to Vegas.  We have seen 25 points as a ceiling from Avery this year already, too, and we don’t mind paying down frequently at shooting guard historically.  If paying down, why not just punt it?

Who’s Hot?

Nerlens Noel and Avery Bradley – They were discussed above, but this is just more icing on the punt cake.  Bringing increased 3-game value indicates sustained run and/or sustained production above the norm, making them stronger punt plays tonight.

Boban Marjanovic – #FreeBoban if he figures to get more run!   We know his capabilities, and with a 3-game value indicator running hot, we might jump into that game log.  Of course, we see a 3 game run of 15, 33, and 10 proving we will likely be dropping his score, but we do have that upside our punt plays need to garner attention.

Mike Scott – Another little-used column is our 3g vs 10g column.  I’m a big fan of using a short baseline of numbers against a larger one in order to determine hot vs cold players.  His 10 game average is only 8.4 points, but at 14.9 over the last 3 games, we see a rise in nearly 6.5 points.  Again, not some lock and load play, but another set of numbers showing us when a punt earns a little digging in our research processes.

Max Efficiency of Data

You can see above, DFS Army has much more data for you to crunch from Cash and GPP considerations to Consistency Ratings for every player across the young season.

The summary here is two fold.  First, punt plays can give you a little outside punch tonight when looking to upgrade a few other players, and we should be looking to utilize them in Fanduel’s new “drop your low” scoring system.  Second, and most importantly, this might not be the night to do so outside of one or two names mentioned.

The sub-$4k super punts are not very strong tonight.  But, don’t take my word for it.  Our coaches are the real deal.  I’m just filling in tonight to show you how we are using our tools to adjust to the new scoring dynamic Fanduel threw at us.  You need to see our 9 NBA coaches in action near lock to really appreciate the depth of knowledge they bring to the table.  No other community can bring you the scratches and pivots like DFS Army NBA Staff.  We do so in real time, and faster than Twitter.  That’s our real edge on our competition.  But, you have to be a VIP to see for yourself….
