NBA Free Squares October 24th

Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA Slate.

So what is a Free Square exactly? In NBA DFS there will be situations that come up that will lead to bench players getting more minutes. Some may even enter the starting lineup. These players will often be priced as backups (their normal role). The increase in their minutes and role will give us someone we can plug into our lineups and expect them to reach or exceed value. The low cost of these players will allow us to spend up across the rest of our lineups. Wich gives us the ability to lock in some high dollar studs. On some nights, you may find some higher dollar players listed as well because the matchups may just be too good to ignore. Each day I’m going to list my 3 or 4 favorite Free Squares for you.

Tuesday 10/23 Free Squares Results

(x value is based on Fanduel salary)

Jrue Holiday – 31.7 fp – 4.06x value
TJ McConnell – 24.60 fp – 6.15x value
Torrey Craig – 11.70 fp – 3.00x value
De’Aaron Fox – 18.2 fp – 2.27x value
Gary Harris – 31.10 fp – 4.31x value
Blake Griffin – 77.80 fp – 8.84x value

Blake broke the slate last night dropping 77.80 fantasy points in the OT win vs the Sixers. Anthony Davis dropped 70.60 and Joel Embid eclipsed the 60 point mark scoring 64.70 in the OT Loss to the Pistons. The best value on the night was Kings forward Marvin Bagley, who scored 46.30 fantasy points good enough for 9.85x his salary on Fanduel. Blake finished as the 2nd best value on the slate hitting 8.84x his salary and JJ Reddick finished 3rd scoring 46.20 fantasy points and reaching 8.71x his salary. Tonight we’ve got a much larger slate so we will have plenty of solid options to chose from.

My Favorite NBA Free Squares for Today – October 24th

Big 11 game Wednesday slate today in the NBA. We’ve got 5 games sitting at 230 or higher vegas totals currently. Every game on the slate is over 210.5 so there should be plenty of fireworks tonight. I’ll try to stay away from the Obvious James Harden, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo plays each day as those are usually pretty obvious. The plays below are usually going to be mid tier and value plays that will allow you to fit those big studs each night.

💥 Kevin Love – CLE – PF (Fanduel)

Still only priced at 8,500 on Fanduel, he’s a much better value (3.4% cap difference) there vs on Draftkings. Love is locked into the lead role in Cleveland, holding steady at a 30.72% usage rate so far this season. He’s topped 40 fantasy points in back to back games and should have no trouble with the Nets tonight. He’s putting up points in bunches, despite his 45% true shooting percentage this season. His career true shooting percentage is 56% so when he starts knocking down shots, look out. Everyone knew when LeBron decided to go to LA this offseason that Kevin Love would be the lead dog for the Cavaliers. Play him now before his price climbs to 9k and probably 10k down the road.

💥 Devin Booker – PHO – SG

Maybe my favorite play on the entire slate tonight. The Suns and Lakers have the 2nd highest vegas total on the slate and neither team seems to be concerned with playing much defense early this season. Booker has quietly put up 40 fantasy points in 2 of the first 3 games this season. He’s currently averaging 29.3 points per game, along with 4 reb, 6 ast and 1.5 steals. Through the frist 3 games he has a sky high usage rate of 33.97%. Rookie big man DeAndre Ayton has been getting a lot of hype, and for good reason early this season. Devin Booker is still the main man here though the Suns and I expect him to show out tonight vs the Lakers.

💥 Kyle Kuzma / Josh Hart – LAL – PF/SG

He was apart of the Free Squares article the other day when the Rondo and Ingram suspensions were announced. That day he delievered for us in a big way that game with a little thanks to overtime. He played 45 minutes, scored 37 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 3 assists on his way to a 49.10 fantasy point game. Even with that effort from Kuzma the Lakers still lost by 1 point to the Spurs. Tonight his price has come up $700 from 6,500 to 7,200 so he’s not the value he was the other day.

Josh Hart had a monster game that same day, scoring 38.5 fantasy points and playing 39 minutes in that overtime loss to the Spurs. He scored 20 points, pulled down 10 reb and dished out 1 ast with 2 steals in that game. He’s a very solid player for this Laker team off the bench and it may only be a matter of time before he cracks the starting lineup.

The matchup today vs the Suns is much better than it was vs the Spurs. Look for another near 40 point fantasy night from Kuzma and a 30-35 point from Hart again tonight

💥 Cameron Payne – CHI – PG

Kris Dunn came back for 1 game and is now out again with a strained MCL for 4-6 weeks. I made a comment the other about not having to worry about rostering Cameron Payne anymore, and still, here we are. Lets get one thing clear before I continue, this guy is not good at Basketball. Sure, compared to everyone else on planet Earth, I’m sure he’s great. But, if we compare him to other NBA players, he’s god awful. All that being said, on Fanduel you get to drop your worst score on your roster. Priced at 3,700 today, he is a pure punt play to help you get other studs into your lineup. Don’t expect much out of him, because he’s not going to give you much. His price and his price alone make him a near must play on Fanduel this evening.

If you need a pivot, someone who could actually put up fantasy points, look at Isaiah Canaan who has a juicy matchup with the Lakers in a game with the highest total on the slate 238.

💥 Cedi Osman – CLE – SF (Draftkings)

This guy just keeps filling up the stat sheet for this Cavaliers team. He’s playing around 35 minutes per game and he’s scored over 40 draftkings points in 2 of the 3 games this year. He’s maintaining a 23% usage rate and doing a lot of the dirty work for this Cavs team. He doesn’t need to score real points to score fantasy points each night. However he’s done pretty well in that category, scoring 17, 22 and 12 real points in 3 games this year. He has double double upside with his rebounding ability, so that bonus on DK can be a huge. He’s a better value on Draftkings today, priced at only 5,800 vs 6,900 over on Fanduel. The Cavs have a 116 team total tonight which should lead to plenty of opportunities for Osman to fill up the stat sheet once again.

💥 Garrett Temple / Kyle Anderson – MEM – SG/SF

Both of these guys are in play tonight for the Grizzlies. The absense of Chandler Parsons and Dillon Brooks should open up more minutes for them both. Neither guy has a ton of upside but they have put up big games in their careers. Temple has scored 17, 42.80 and 14.60 fantasy points in the 3 games this Season. The 42.80 game vs the Hawks is not what we should expect from him tonight. However, its nice to know he’s got that in him. He’s played 24, 33 and 35 minutes in each game this season. His minutes will be secure especially with the injury situation. Also, this is a REVENGE game for him against the Kings who traded him last year. Kyle Anderson is only in play for me because of the Parsons news.

NOTE – apparently Garrett Temple is dealing with a Groin injury and we’re unsure if he’s even going to play tonight. If he’s out, the Grizzlies may only have 10 guys healthy for tonights game

Fades and Pivots

💥 Kevin Love —> LaMarcus Aldridge

He is likely to be one of, if not THE highest owned player on the slate today. A simple pivot you could make is to pay slightly up to LaMarcus Aldridge who has been crushing so far this season. The matchup vs the Pacers tonight is not anything I’ll be actively looking to avoid. Aldridge is fresh off his 61.5 fantasy point game vs the Lakers. Where he scored 37 real points while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. Load him up at 1/2 the ownership of Love and the same upside tonight in your Tournements!
