NBA Free Squares October 22nd

Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA Slate.

So what is a Free Square exactly? In NBA DFS there will be situations that come up that will lead to bench players getting more minutes. Some may even enter the starting lineup. These players will often be priced as backups (their normal role). The expected increase in their minutes and role will give us someone we can plug into our lineups and comfortably expect them to reach or exceed value. The low cost of these players will allow us to spend up across the rest of our lineups. Wich gives us the ability to lock in some high dollar studs. On some nights, you may find some higher dollar players listed as well because the matchups may just be too good to ignore. Each day I’m going to list my 3 or 4 favorite Free Squares for you.

Sunday 10/21 Free Squares Results

(x value is based on Fanduel salary)

Kevin Love – 40.90 fp – 5.04x value
Paul George – 44.20 fp – 4.80x value
Gary Harris – 42.10 fp – 7.01x value
Cedi Osman – 22.60 fp – 3.37x value
De’Aaron Fox – 43.80 fp – 6.63x value

Everyone hit 5x or close to it except for Cavs SF Cedi Osman last night. That was bound to happen as he was playing a bit over his head imo in the first two games of the Season. He scored 38 and 37 fantasy points in those games, and his priced jumped to the mid 6k quickly. I think going forward we can expect him to be in the high 20’s and low 30’s rather than high 30’s and low 40’s. Also, as expected, with the return of Russell Westbrook we saw Paul George’s usage drop from 35% down to 26%. Along with Dennis Schroder’s usage drop from 30% down to 21%. All in all, a solid day for the Free Squares, hopefully they helped you get over the Cash line Sunday night.

My Favorite NBA Free Squares for Today – October 22nd

We’ve got some more mid tier and high tier players on the list today. There are some pretty solid values starting to pop up as well, so lets dig in.

💥 Josh Hart – LAL – PG

He has played 27 and 30 minutes in the first two games of the season. Now, he should get even more run with Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram being suspended. The first game of the year vs the Blazers he put up 39.30 fantasy points in 27 minutes on the court. He scored 20 real points in that game and pitched in 4 reb, 1 ast, 3 stl and 2 blocked shots. In game number two vs the Rockets he scored 27 fantasy points and scored 11 real points. While again pitching in some peripheral stats with 5 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl and 1 blocked shot. Tonight should be no different despite a tougher matchup vs the slow paced Spurs team. Look for Hart to play 30-35 minutes tonight and be very active while he’s on the floor.

💥 Luka Doncic – DAL – SG

As I said the other day when I wrote him up, this kid looks like the real deal. He’s got all the tools to really be a start in this league. With Harrison Barnes still out, I’m going to keep playing him until his price rises. So far this season he’s playing about 35 minutes per game and he’s doing a little bit of everything on the court. He scored 21.60 fantasy points in the first game of the year vs the Suns. He Followed that up with a 40.70 game against the T’Wolves. Over the first two games of the season he’s averaging 18 points, 7 reb, 3.5 ast and 1 steal per game. Tonight, against a Bulls team who ranks 25th in Defensive Efficiency and 6th in Pace there should be plenty of Opportunities for Doncic to pile up fantasy points.

💥 Kyle Kuzma – LAL – PF

As I wrote above with Josh Hart, the Lakers will be without Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram tonight. That will open up a lot of opportunities for players like Hart and Kuzma tonight. Kuzma hasn’t really got it going the way he had it going last year yet, scoring 23 and 23.90 fantasy points in the first two games. His minutes have been down a little though as he only plays 25 and 28 minutes in those games. He’s taken 28 shots in those games and has only conected on 10 of them (only 2-12 from 3pt range). With extended minutes tonight the shots will be there once again for Kuzma. Hopefully tonight is the night he starts knocking those shots down in the absense of Rondo and Ingram.

💥 Jaren Jackson – MEM – PF

Here is a nother young player who looks to be the real deal. The Grizzles versitile big man Jaren Jackson has played 26 minute per game this year and has averaged 17 points, 6 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl and 1.5 blocks per game. Last game he has a solid usage rate of 27.5% and dropped 42.40 fantasy points on the Hawks. Tonight vs the Jazz the Grizzlies will be without the services of JaMychal Green. So Jackson will have plenty of chances to put up some big numbers this evening. The matchup vs the Jazz is not ideal but you can’t overlook the production he’s given us early this season. His price is a little higher on Fanduel than I would like, given the matchup however. So I think he’s a better point per dollar play on Draftkings tonight.

💥 Isaiah Canaan – PHO – PG

Here is a great value play for you this evening who I don’t think a lot of people will be on. Canaan has played 33 and 29 minutes in the first two games this year. In those games he’s scored 24.70 and 23.80 fantasy points. Priced at only 4,300 on Fanduel he’s a great punt play at point guard tonight. He’s got a matchup with the Warriors, who we all know play at a break neck pace so the opportunities should be there for him tonight. Give me a near min price point guard vs a fast paced team any day of the week.

💥 Enes Kanter – NYK – C

The Knicks have started the season with their franchise player Kristaps Porzingis recovering from an ACL injury. His absense has led to Enes Kanter getting all the minutes he can handle early in the Season. We all know Kanter can put up fantasy points in bunches and has always been a near point per minute type of player. Now he’s finally getting the minutes to really showcase his fantasy upside. He’s played three games so far this year and he’s got a double double in every game. He’s scored 38.70, 47.00 and 41.00 fantasy points in those games. He has a usage rate right around 24% so far this year and he should continue to do work vs the Bucks and Brook Lopez tonight.

💥 DeAndre Jordan – DAL – C

As I mentioned above, the Chicago Bulls rank 25 in defensive efficiency this year and also play at the 6th fastest pace in the NBA (through 2 games). This set up great for a guy like DeAndre Jordan who grabs every rebound in sight most nights. Fresh off a 55 point fantasy game the other day, I’m looking for a Barbora Walters 20/20 special from DeAndre tonight. He’s expensive on Fanduel so his ownership will probably be low. He’s a solid GPP upside play this evening.

Note – DeAndre is battling an illness but is expected to play tonight (4:00pm est)

Fades and Pivots

💥 Kyler Kuzma and Josh Hart

After researching for about 5 minutes people are going to plug in Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart tonight. If you’re looking for a Tournament pivot off these two, look no further than Kentavious Caldwell Pope on the same team. Pope has not seen a lot of action so far this season, only 27 minutes in game one, and 18 minutes in game two. He’s never been a big time NBA Scorer, but, for DFS purposes he’s always been a guy who can stuff that stat sheet when he gets the opportunity. Tonight without Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram, Pope should see more court time and more opportunities. I don’t like this play for cash, its more of a Tourney pivot off the chalk Hart/Kuzma combo.
