It’s time to put our money where our mouth is! DFSArmy claims to turn Average Joe’s into DFS Pros, but can they turn me, hockey loving, basketball hating joe, into a DFS NBA Pro?

My name is Josh Thomas, and I am a PGA Coach here at DFS Army as well as an NFL Contributor. I write the Chalk Donkey NFL and PGA articles weekly for our VIPs looking at who the chalk plays are and where we can pivot/leverage them. I also cover all the showdown/single game slates for our VIPs!

I hate basketball. Like I really do. Its boring. You can barely touch anyone without getting a foul. I’ve heard horror stories about guys losing thousands because of late scratches. Each team gets 45 time outs and the last two minutes of a game take longer to finish than it does to run a marathon. I also literally couldn’t name 10 players in the NBA right now. So I feel like I’m the perfect test subject to tryout all the DFSArmy tools and resources and see if I can go from a DFS NBA Joe to a DFS NBA Pro. DFSArmy’s motto is turning DFS Joes to Pros, so can they do that with me?
So here’s the challenge in the most basic form. I’m going to start the season with $100 on Fanduel and see what I can turn it into this NBA Season using all of the tools that DFS Army provides, from the NBA Research Station to the Domination Station to the Daily NBA Strategy Articles and coaching channels. The expectation is I crush with the tools and resources we have here at DFS Army, but as with any sport there is variance, so I’ll be documenting how my journey is going weekly in this article and highlighting some of the great tools and resources we have at DFS Army to help you go from an DFS NBA Joe to Pro too.

At DFSArmy we have some of the best coaches in the business from @mrbearhere to @dfsloosmeister to @boomersdfsdaddy and they are all helping me crush NBA DFS (this was me before the season started) so why not let them help you too!

Rules:
As with any challenge/competition there has to be some rules right?
- I start with $100 on Fanduel and I do not redeposit once. (I’m using Fanduel because of the change to their format this year, that way I can highlight how we are attacking it)
- I can only play 10% of my bankroll each slate
- I only play slates that are four games or more.
- I don’t have to play every single slate. Just like any Joe sometimes life gets in the way.
- I have to document and share the lineups/contests I play to provide transparency.
- Utilize the DFS Army Ladder System as often as possible to practice smart bankroll management.

The DFSArmy Domination Station has been CRUSHING the single game slates on Fanduel this year! Check out Join here! Use code UPNORTH for 10% off for life!
Goals:
Alright so what am I trying to accomplish here?
- Reach $1000 by the end of the NBA Season
- Win a GPP
- Have a 60% cash or better rate in Double Ups
- Become a better overall DFS player through the process
- Help you become a better DFS Player by showing you what we offer at DFSArmy

Fanduel DFS NBA Joe to Pro First Week:
I got cocky. I got that sweep on the first night, and I thought…dude this is easy! I’m going to be just counting money all year, and then I can blow it all on PGA in the spring!

Yeaaaa didn’t quite work like that. After that big win on the first night where I swept my ladder, I went back to back DONUTS. No double ups, no nothing.

The double donut was hard to swallow. I probably didn’t put enough time into researching the slate that I should have, (again, I got cocky) and it bit me in the butt. Here’s the beauty of using the DFS Army Ladder System though, I was OK. I swept on night one and that gave me some leeway here to handle losses. I was still only playing 10% of my bankroll so even with back to back donuts I still had a net profit of $3 for the year. Daily Fantasy Sports are inherently full of variance. There’s going to be nights where you think you have the nuts lineup and it duds, and nights you think you think you might be dead and you end up crushing. By only playing 10% of your bankroll a slate though and utilizing a system like this, you can withstand the variance over the entire season, and likely will come out ahead.

OK. Time to re-evaluate what I’m doing. I know that nights like the previous were going to happen, but I need to put a little more time and effort into this thing if I want to be successful at it. So here’s what I did.
- Start scheduling a regular bathroom break at 5:45 PM CST, or 15 minutes before lock. I have a one and half year old son and a wife, you think I’m getting alone time anywhere other than the bathroom? Doubtful.I legitimately might see if I can get diagnosed with IBS so my wife doesn’t catch on to what I’m doing.

There’s so much breaking news that happens in the last 15 minutes before lock with lineups coming out and value opening up that if you can’t be near a phone or a computer at that time, it really isn’t worth playing some nights. I got caught not being around on one of the nights I failed to make a profit, and it cost me. (the other night I was just bad) - We have a plethora of coaches at DFSArmy, and they are all great, but I’m a big believer in finding one that works the best for your game. After a few weeks you can start to look at whose style fits best with yours. I still utilize all of the coaches and their articles/content/info but there’s one that I feel best about it and I stick with him. (I’m not telling who because they are all my friends and I don’t want to make them feel bad, but its for sure not DFSnDonuts)
- Use the Domination Station. For the first few slates I didn’t use our Domination Station. I wasn’t going to use it to do my lineups for me, but I wanted to run it and see what it came up with for optimal lineups. I would run 5-10 lineups and see if there was guys that were continuously popping up that I didn’t have in my lineup. I’ve been around long enough to know that if the DS likes someone a lot, you need to trust it.

Fanduel Results:
So what happened?! Well I spent 20 or so minutes in the bathroom Monday night and my leg fell asleep. Wait, that’s not what you want to hear about? Ok fine…we got back on track!

Kaboooooom! Yeah boy. Back on track. Couple of notes from these lineups. The first thing is that I completely messed up on Monday night, reading the coaches notes in our NBA Coaching Channels.

If you aren’t a VIP these are kind of things that get dropped in the coaches channel nightly. Well MrBearHear wrote up Patty Mills as an option for a low tier cash PG….I read that as Miles…thinking that CJ Miles was an option for the Raptors. A min price punt? Yeah I’m all in! Much to my dismay I go back and read these again after lock and realize…uh oh I screwed up. Thankfully Miles had a great game and wasn’t even my low score dropped! (I’m looking at you Isaiah Canaan) This is a great example of some of the value our coaches provide though!
I also played Serge Ibaka on this night. Wasn’t really on my radar even though he was on the coaches. I ran the Domination Station and his name kept popping up and I was able to pivot down from Jayson Tatum and it turned out to be great move as Ibaka outscored Tatum. I was able to upgrade my lineups elsewhere too. Again…trust the Domination Station…it knows!
If you notice the lineup on the right there, it shows only five players! If you haven’t played the single game NBA slates on Fanduel yet, you are missing out. I know my rules say I can’t play anything less than a 4 game slate, but I don’t really mention a different game type, so I figured it was OK to play single game on a night that only has three games to begin with!
Again, our Domination station optimizer is crushing these single game slates. I knew I wanted Shumpert in there since he was getting the start, I locked him in and ran it and this is what came out. Boom, crushed it.
Our members have just rolling with the single game slates on Fanduel and we have seen a huge increase in guys bankroll this year, if you aren’t playing them, you’re missing out, especially if you aren’t playing them with us!

Longtime DFSArmy VIP Uly E crushed it earlier this week for just under 15K!
Check out some of the other big wins on our WALL OF WINS!
Wednesday was a bit of a let down, I covered my entries with my double up but wasn’t able to hit anything else as the triple up/quintuple up lines were basically the same and I just couldn’t quite get there after Kevin Love let me down.
So where am I at total?

Beginning Week Total: $128
End Week Total: $157
A solid first week for me, I played 6 slates, and was able to have a return on investment of over 55%! I’m starting to really get the hang of what goes into this basketball thing. I still haven’t watched a game yet, or even a highlight, but maybe I’ll get there someday!
This might be just beginners luck and we will see what happens over the course of the next month, but I really think it comes down to the tools and resources we offer here at DFSArmy. I couldn’t pick any of these guys out of a crowd, unless it was a crowd of very short people, but I was still able to build a roster, by myself, using the tools and resources we provide. DFSArmy doesn’t just give you a lineup, they teach you to build a lineup and I can tell you that that you feel a heck of a lot more pride doing that!
What are you waiting for?!
