If you like making money, be sure to read all the articles our NFL staff has for you each week. If you don’t like either, take a hike. Get it? Hut Hut Hike… let’s do this Army!!
Tier 1 Draw Plays
Julio Jones Vs. Donte Jackson
Prior to the start of the 2018 season Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn said they we’re going to make it a point to get the ball to Julio more often. He was targeted 19 times. Last season he saw an average of 10.7 targets a game, it doubled. I don’t care who is on this man; He will be my most exposed player in week 1. Why? Donte Jackson: Rookie out of LSU had a decent debut facing Americas receivers in Dallas aka, your uncle Leo and aunt Gloria. However Jackson at 5’11 opposite a 6’3 volume receiver… it could get ugly very fast in Atlanta.
Antonio Brown Vs. Steven Nelson
Lining up against Nelson in week 1, the combination on Travis Benjamin and Mike Williams put up 6 catches for 82 combined yards. Nelson is a solid corner but still only a month removed from a concussion and needs to take a big step this year at 25. Here is why this matchup is exploitable aside from the fact that Antonio Brown is a generational talent. Mike Williams had 81 of those 82 yards Nelson conceded and he did so catching 5/6 targets. Those numbers out of a #3 WR stand out, imagine the type of game a receiver like Brown can have on Sunday.
Keenan Allen Vs. Taron Johnson
News flash: Nobody circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills, but nobody circles the Buffalo Bills like Keenan Allen. Okay, I thought it was funny. Whats not funny is the abuse this poor kid Taron Johnson is going to take against Allen. Game 1 saw Keenan doing Keenan things with 108 yards, 8 catches, a TD, and just looking like that PPR machine we love. He gets a matchup against Johnson, 4th round rookie who’s only saving grace is that the Bills may be losing so often he’s not gonna see a ton of work season. I do think that at home Buffalo may stay in this game a bit longer. This should give Allen plenty of time to get his share and have a fantastic day in an above average matchup.
Nelson Agholor Vs. M.J. Stewart
Agholor was the guy in our season opener seeing a ton of work and even though he didn’t have a wildly explosive game it’s only a matter of time before he breaks one off. Volume alone makes him a terrific play in both formats priced at 6.1K on both sites and obviously has that full PPR upside on DK. I don’t know a lot about M.J. Stewart, and I’ll never pretend to when it comes to these IDP’s but I do know this…. The Saints don’t throw to the slot, Austin Carr sees very little work there, but he was 2/2 last week and Philly still threw at Falcons’ Brian Poole (top 10 slot cornerback) 10 times. Agholor will see plenty of action and the upside at his price is too good to pass up.
Tier 2 Draw Plays
Cooper Kupp Vs. Budda Baker
Last week I had Jamison Crowder in this spot against Baker, and Washington went up big early and AP was effective and the whole thing just fell apart for my tout. So I’ll go back to it this week in a matchup that could follow the same game script. Reasoning is, I like to pick on certain corners until they give me a reason not to. Pricing is more dependent on player performance than matchup (especially on FD) so it makes it easier to find soft spots. Budda Baker is still a soft spot for now the same way Homer Bailey is a guy we targeted in baseball all year. Kupp is still an affordable WR especially on DK at 5.5K and we want exposure to the Rams pretty much every week. Early this year it will be slightly more challenging to pinpoint them, so we go for the weaker matchup and the receiver who tied for the team lead in targets week 1.
Mohamed Sanu Vs. Captain Munnerlyn
Earlier this week in Slack (make sure you’re in my room #puggle-nfl) we had a conversation about this game and I spoke about Sanu being in a spot to have a game. So I crunched some numbers, thought about it, and despite how much I love Julio Jones we have to think about attacking here. Sanu was bad in week 1, his price went down to 5.5K on FD and up to 4K on DK (where they do weight matchup more heavily). Munnerlyn wasn’t too involved in week 1 but that’s mainly because Carolina didn’t throw often to the newly acquired Jarious Wright. Last year however, opposing receivers torched him to a 79% catch rate. I see a scenario where Carolina has a safety coming in over the top to shadow Julio leaving Sanu open to more volume and at his price the value is too good to not have shares of.
Randall Cobb Vs. Mike Hughes
I hate targeting Minnesota. I love targeting Cobb, he’s just a guy who always gets himself involved. In my Slack channel I talk a lot about game flow and theory and this is another place I think the slot receiver benefits. Hughes is good and not a guy I usually want to try and pick on, but Rodgers had a tough time throwing downfield after coming back in the 2nd half against the Bears. Green Bay is a -1 point favorite at home against a tough Vikings team. While I think the line makes no sense and Minnesota should torch them in the air, it’s the Aaron Rodgers factor that will always make the Packers a team to respect. I don’t see any world where he doesn’t start Sunday, people make too big a deal out of him not practicing, he’s like Iverson though.
If I can’t practice, I can’t practice. If I’m hurt, I’m hurt. Simple as that. It’s not about that at all. But it’s easy to talk about and sum it up when you just talk about practice; we’re sitting here, and I’m supposed to be the franchise player, and we’re in here talking about practice. I mean, listen, we’re talking about practice. Not a game! Not a game! Not a game! We’re talking about practice. Not a game; not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it’s my last, not the game, we’re talking about practice, man. I mean, how silly is that? We’re talking about practice.
Don’t psych yourself out here, practice means very little for veteran players like him, he’s going to sit all week and play Sunday. Kidding aside, Rodgers is a gamer, he’ll be there but he may be in the same situation we saw last week. Xavier Rhodes is going to be all over a banged up Davante Adams which leaves Cobb a ton of work on these hitch and flat routes he’s made his living off of.
Golden Tate Vs. K’Waunn Williams
Buster Skrine had the duties of covering Tate on Monday and he did a bad job because he’s bad. Tate had 7 for 79 and found the end-zone, problem was he was targeted 15 teams and only caught 7 passes. We’ll chalk this up to Matt Stafford having a game he’d like to forget, as would Lions fans. So last week I told you that Thielen in the slot would manhandle Williams. That turned into a performance of 6 receptions for 102 yards on 12 targets… Expect similar this week out of Tate but with a better catch rate. I’m not digging harder than that here, the volume is there, the matchup is there, he’s in a lot of my builds, end story.
Tier Thr…. OMAHA, OMAHA
That’s right, I’m calling an audible and replacing this weeks tier 3 plays with a top 5 value sheet for WR’s this week on FanDuel and DraftKings. If it’s received well, I will consider this addition going forward. I am quantifying value on each site by price where on FanDuel I am looking for players priced below 6K and DraftKings priced below 5k. These are the guys in GPP’s that are those targeted punts that we need to beat large fields and walk away with the trophy.
Think about this for a moment, you look at the teams at the top and say to yourself, “How in the world did this guy think rostering player X was a good idea?” Well, these are the guys who allow you to get all the heavy hitters in the same lineup. You want a swag bag, you want the big bucks, these are the guys in week 2 I think could help you get there.
FanDuel DraftKings
1. Quincy Enunwa 5K 1. Mike Williams 3.7K
2. Pierre Garcon 5.6K 2. Anthony Miller 3.7K
3. Mike Williams 5.4K 3. Randall Cobb 4.6K
4. Marquise Goodwin 5.8K 4. Tyler Lockett 4.8K
5. Albert Wilson 5K 5. Ted Ginn Jr. 4.8K
