Celtics Viability
In the three games that Irving missed the Celtics have scored 80, 85, and 95 points. That’s below the Mavericks season-long average on a BAD NIGHT. I just don’t see tremendous upside, even though the price allows for some wiggle room with the ceiling, in rostering Celtics players tonight.
I think exposure to Marcus Morris, Al Horford, and to some extent Rozier is warranted, particularly in GPPs for Morris and Horford and cash for Rozier, but I don’t think they’re guys you need to jam into your roster and build around. If you happen to land on them then great, if not, don’t sweat it. If they beat you then so be it, but recent history and offensive struggles (including not having Marcus Smart in addition to Kyrie) say that they’ll struggle tonight to produce and get into a smooth flow.
Suns Roster
With Alex Len already ruled OUT and possibly missing Marques Chriss and Devin Booker, we once again are looking at quite a bit of value at some very cheap price points. Ulis could get significant run again tonight, especially with Canaan looking out of sorts last game.
If Booker is OUT, then Ulis is someone I don’t mind going back to the well with. I would not consider him cash viable though, because I don’t see multiple studs worth paying up for tonight out of necessity like the other night when Ulis played.
IF Booker is OUT, then Josh Jackson should get solid run again and has great GPP appeal due to the volume of shots he will take. if his shot falls he has 30sh point upside at a solid price point. I still would want Valentine over him in GPPs though, but for people playing MME style DFS then you need some exposure here (also a nice pivot off of Hezonja if Aaron Gordon is indeed OUT).
Tyson Chandler should start and play upper 20’s which means Greg Monroe will be the backup and likely play low-mid 20’s minutes. Chandler and Monroe both kill eachother’s ceilings and I would only want them in a large field GPP hoping one of them sees 30 minutes randomly. Much better options at center tonight that I listed in the article.
Dallas Mavericks
With Barae OUT already, I love Farrell for GPPs. LOVE him. He’s going to play around 30 mins at PG and is priced just a bit lower than Rozier and likely has the same floor/ceiling volatility, although his matchup is supreme in comparison. Farrell could go for 32-36 tonight against Ulis and friends and provide tremendous value as a pivot off the heavier owned Rozier in a sub-optimal spot, even if he’s likely to receive more minutes.
Dennis Smith Jr has 40 point upside and is my favorite GPP option at PG tonight. It’s the matchup and pace where his elite athleticism should absolutely SHINE.
Wes Matthews, Yogi Ferrell, Harrison Barnes, Dennis SMith, I really like them all tonight. Great large field GPP stack and then lock in Howard and James and hope for fire works in a large field GPP.
Bulls Roster
With Mirotic active tonight I am not worried about Paul Zipser “starting” at PF. He likely will be a warm body to run the first four minutes of the game and give guys a breather. The heavy lifting will be done by Bobby Portis IMO. He’s still my favorite PF of the night. Mirotic is GPP only IMO because I am slightly worried they don’t play him much to protect his leg and keep his trade equity high.
Valentine has his ceiling capped with Mirotic back but LaVine still should see a minor boost without Markannen. Mirotic possibly being on a minutes cap would allow LaVine to be the primary outside threat. Fantastic GPP option (LaVine) and I don’t mind him in cash anywhere you can find him in the 5k price range.
SF Choices
Harrison Barnes or Josh Richardson? It’s splitting hairs. If making one lineup I likely go with Barnes. If rolling multiple you have to love J Rich against the worst team in the NBA in the last 10-games against SF. I love them both for cash and gpp.
Frank Kaminsky, Jeff Green, Jae Crowder
His usage rate sits at 24% and his .7fpm is boring. He should lead the team in minutes tonight (as he has this past month without Marvin Williams) but has a low ceiling. I can see a 36 minute night with 26 points scored from Frank the Tank. That’s great value at 4k for CASH.
Between Crowder and Green, someone is going to step up tonight and both have played great this year whenever Kevin Love has been out. However, they feast on each other’s ceiling a bit, even though they’re priced under 4k. They remain GPP options and nice pivots off anybody who plays Kaminsky in GPP (I don’t like that thought). If D Wade misses tonight then the Cavs will have to lean on someone like Jeff Green to score more with the second unit – likely making him the better option.
Jahlil Okafor
If we hear that he’s starting we could be looking at mid-20’s minutes against his former team at basically minimum price. I love the idea of rolling him out for large field GPPs only.
