Searching For the Free Square
In the game of Bingo, every card gets an empty spot in the middle called the “Free Square”. Since it’s the middle square, the free square is essentially the ideal spot from which to build lines around. In DFS we define the Free Square as the player to build your lineups around. Generally, this player represents the closest we can find to a sure thing for the slate. This column is all about trying to identify the free square for a particular slate. Very often, this will be a low-cost player thrust into a starting role and sure to make or exceed value. The type of player that allows us to load up the rest of our lineup with high salary studs. Occasionally it will be a high priced stud in a great spot, The goal of this column is to use quantitative data to identify the free square for the days Daily Fantasy Basketball slate. Each slate we will take a deep look at three or four players which represent outsized value on the day’s slate of games and choose the one which best represents the top value and floor play to earn the title of the slates Free Square

Recap
For our free squares last night we had Thabo Sefolosha who ended up with 16.50 DKFP which was good enough for right around 4.5x value. Our other free square was T.J. Warren who ended up with 39.0 DKFP which was good enough for right around 6.3x value. Our last free square of the night was Lou Williams who ended up with right around 60.25 DKFP which was good enough for right around 10.8x value.
Tonight
We have a short-sized slate on the docket for Tuesday night. The teams with the highest implied totals are as follows Houston Rockets (113), Boston (107), and the Toronto Raptors (107). The highest priced players of the night are James Harden, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Kyrie Irving.
Free Squares
- Kyle Anderson PG/SF SAS ($4,500)
- Kyle Anderson and the San Antonio Spurs will take on the Dallas Mavericks on the road tonight. The Spurs have an implied total sitting at right around 103-points and they are currently 6.0-point favorites. The Spurs have been playing at a pace of right around 99.0 and the Mavericks have been playing at a pace of right around 100.1. This will be a slight pace-up game for the Spurs which should be beneficial for Anderson and the Spurs tonight. Anderson is likely to be matched up against Yogi Ferrell tonight who is not a great defender and Anderson will have a significant height advantage on tonight. Anderson has been averaging the following stats on the season so far this year: 26.3 MPG, 6.5 RPG, 2.5 APG, .8 BLKPG, .8 STLPG, 8.3 PPG, 23.4 FPPG, and a .89 FPPM. Taking a look at our Domination Station we can see that we have a projection of right around 25.735 DKFP which was good enough for right around 5.72x value. We have him slated for right around 29 minutes. Anderson is one of those players who can fill up the stat sheet in a number of different categories. I love his matchup and affordability tonight. Load him up as either a value forward or guard on Draftkings tonight.
- Kyrie Irving PG BOS ($8,200)
- Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics will take on the Brooklyn Nets on the road tonight. The Celtics have an implied total sitting at right around 107-points and they are currently 6.5-favorites. The Celtics have been playing at a pace of right around 99.4 and the Nets have been playing at right around 108.7. The Nets are one of the fastest teams in the league so this game will be a nice upgrade for the slower Celtics. Kryie is likely to be guarded by Spencer Dinwiddie tonight who is a middling defender. He should have no trouble getting points tonight on Dinwiddie. He has been averaging the following numbers on the season so far this year: 31.0 MPG, 3.1 RPG, 5.2 APG, .3 BLKPG, 1.9 STLPG, 20.3 PPG, 36.6 FPPG, and a 1.18 FPPM. Taking a look at our Domination Station we can see that Kyrie has a projection of right around 41.266 DKFP which would be good enough for right around 5.02x value. We have Kyrie slated for right around 35 minutes. I love Kryie in this matchup tonight. I think he is priced reasonable and we always know the upside he can bring to games. Load him up as your point guard on Draftkings tonight.
- Spencer Dinwiddie PG/SG BKN ($4,800)
- Spencer Dinwiddie and the Brooklyn Nets will take on the Boston Celtics tonight at home. The Nets have an implied total sitting at right around 101-points and they are currently 6.5-point underdogs. Like I said in the Irving write-up the Celtics have been playing at a pace of right around 99.4 and the Nets have been playing at right around 108.7. Yes, this will be a pace-down game for the Nets but they play so fast I think its more of a bonus to the Celtics than a negative to the Nets. Dinwiddie is likely going to be guarded by Kyrie Irving tonight who is the worst point-guard defender on the board tonight. Dinwiddie has the following stats on the season so far this year: 22.2 MPG, 2.9 RPG, 4.9 APG, .9 STLPG, 9.8 PPG, 21.1 FPPG, and a .95 FPPM. Taking a look at our Domination Station we can see that we have a projection of right around 29.024 DKFP which would be good enough for right around 6.05x value. He is slated to play right around 32 minutes. Dinwiddie should be able to have his way in this matchup tonight against Kyrie. He has a solid price, high FPPM, and a great matchup tonight. Load him up as a value play at either guard position tonight.
