*Reminder this is a focus on Head to Head matchups only. 3m, 6m, 10m, and Dream Team have a different set of strategies.
For this series, we’ll be comparing the top options that we had going into the Sun-Mon slates vs. reality, how it affected our strategies in the previous week, and what it’ll change going forward.

QB: Our top picks last week

Brady slightly underperformed and from my previous articles and last week’s strategy, the idea was to skip Prescott and go to Brees since we were grabbing Elliot first. In general stacking on a 5 man roster is usually a poor decision. However, when the reports out of Green Bay called for mass amounts of rain, we talked in Slack Chat about riding the lightning and going Dak/Elliot. All three options ended up being ok. Brady slightly underperformed and Prescott blew it out of the water. Personally, all my games were already locked in at Brady or Brees minus a very few last minute Sunday morning drafts. QB, in general, this year has gone to see ~ the same stability week in and week out where baring any injuries, picking a QB last works.
RB: top picks this week

We went against the grain and pivoted to Elliot being our top RB pick this week. I reported out in our VIP article I was seeing Bell go first, but like we talk about in Slack and literally every year, Pit v. CIN = randomness. This divisional matchup always produces odd results (see AJ Green Below). So while Bell is a matchup-proof RB, Elliot was in the better spot and by far was my favorite play this week on all sites. Gurley and McCoy were both in solid spots and you were guaranteed one due to Bell/Elliot going first. Turns out they were a coin toss and had under a point differential. RB continues to be the point horse this season providing the next best stability behind QB. For strategy purposes, RBs are always going to be a higher priority as it has continued to be this season. The #3-4 RB has been better on average than the top WR every week outside of one.
WR: Top Picks this week

If there was a week Julio was going to put up some points, it was this one. Geek talked about it in his notes, we talked about it on the pod, and in Slack Chat. He was a clear #1 pick for me this week above Brown for the same reasons as to why Elliot was a better pick than Bell. Everyone outside of Julio, however, was like throwing a dart. Same as Brees, I recommended taking Thomas completely out of the mix with the heavy rain since Brees historically doesn’t throw well in rain/wet conditions on the road. AJ Green was the hazard of the weirdness. On paper in previous division matchups with PIT, he averaged 8 touches/99 yds/1 TD. If we could predict everything in football, we would probably be rich already. Since Brown was usually gone, my pivot was to Evans or D. Thomas. Evans was in a tough CB matchup in week 7 and the theory was Thomas should have seen more looks since Sanders was out. Turns out the opposite happened with Evans having a great game and the Denver offense being a floppy taco. WR continues to be the X factor every week on PlayDraft and DFS in general. The modern staples we are used to seeing last year haven’t been in play this year. I’ll continue to sift through matchup data and see where w can grab an edge Sunday morning by pivoting off of the obvious plays into profitable ones.
