DFS Army’s Kickers Corner
Week 8 is here folks, and it is one of my favorite numbers to boot. I hope everyone who is reading this has had a wonderful first half to the NFL season. I know that a lot of those of you who are in slack have been having some good weeks, but if you are not one of those people I believe things are close to turning around. Review of Week 6
[table “21” not found /]I had a pretty good week picking kickers, but there is one thing that I have decided and that is Gostkowski needs to be pushed onto the fade list. He is in match up after match up that screams a big game for him. Yet he just is not needed. Another player from the fade list that did pretty solid was Boswell. He was even 1 missed FG from being one of the biggest kickers of the weekend. I am glad I pulled him off the fade list. As long as he continues to be without Big Ben, Boswell is in play.
Recap
Yes Janikoski went off, yes I know he could always go off, no he is still not a good play. The man will be good for 18 points here and there, but more or less you will get 8 from him most weeks. Unless something changes and he starts getting used game after game keep him on your fade list.
Player to Long Term Fade
Boswell is as you just read still in play. He has found himself on a team without BigB and that means he will get more work. There is the one problem this week of him being on bye, but other than that, you can so roll him out most weeks.
Janikoski still on my list of fade. Yes the man can go off at any moment, and if you want to put him into a GPP LU I get it. That just does not do you any good the 5 weeks where he gets less than 8. I will be putting him more into a player to watch type role. He is a kicker, who should almost always be in play based on match up. The problem is his usage is still up and down.
Short Term Fade
Bailey is back and off the fade list. Fire him up. This week is a little bit more of a GPP type spot since Philly is in town. Still he should be the biggest benefit to a tough Philly def as long as the Boys still move the ball like they have been.
Gano is still a player I plan to avoid as his team needs to prove to me that it can work well, and not fall behind early. He can always be thought of in GPP since he can have great upside, but know he comes with risk.
Being added to the list is Gostkowski. The man is kicking worse than most 4500 kickers, and is still one of the highest priced kickers on a weekly basis. Until he starts working his leg we should be avoiding him.
Quick How to Pick a Kicker
- Pick kickers on teams who are favored to win or be in close high scoring games.
- Focus on kickers who have the ability to kick with high accuracy from long ranges.
- Find kickers who are in domes or where weather is not an issue.
- Worry about price last, focus on ability to score points first.
