DFS Army’s Kickers Corner

Wow this NFL season is flying by, but there is still plenty of great kickers left for us to pick.  If you have not been on Fanduel yet this season because you are not a fan of kickers, I will have you covered.  I also have a great recipe for pork chops, but you can’t have that unless you love kickers.  Kickers are people too, so lets review how last week went.

Review of Week 5

This was a pretty good week if you were in slack, where we talked about fading the Bal/Wash game due to winds, and then went with Vinatieri as our pivot.  That mean’t if you were in slack, and check the kicker channel you had a pretty good chance to use the highest scoring kicker of the week.  If you are not in Slack, it is included as part of our membership. Sign up and you will gain you every sport we offer for the same one low price.  This includes NBA and NHL which have already started to see their chat rooms going crazy.  To become a member of the DFS Army visit our joining page.  Don’t forget you can sign up for Fantasydraft and get the free month of DFS Army.  Sure they lack kickers, but they are a great site even if they forgot to play that kicker.

Recap

Old man Vinatieri went off with some great long kicks, and had plenty of them to boot. We also got another showing by Zuerlein from the Rams.  This means it might be time to start giving him some looks.  He is not going to get volume most weeks, but he should get enough ranged kicks (as he can make them from 60 yards with good weather). McManus produced solid agian, even in a loss.  I am pretty sure McManus is almost a every week play.  The biggest disappointment was Nugent who found himself on a Cin team who could not get anything going.  I am not sure what happened in this game during the 2nd half, but the whole offense hit a wall the first half.

Weather is always something we want to watch for.  If you were paying attention to the weather before 1pm games you would have seen high winds in Baltimore.  This made a fade of Hopkins/Tucker an almost 100% fade.  Not only is it harder for them to kick, but also harder for either team to throw the ball well.  So while we faded out SSS, we also should be fading the kickers.

Player to  Long Term Fade

Boswell is still on my fade list, but not a full fade.  I am actually kind of liking the idea of focusing on Boswell when on the road against good match ups.  The reason for this is because Pit has been a much stronger home team than road team.  This is the week where Boswell could finally go off for that 15 we all know is in him.  Still I do not have him on my list, and will only use him in a few random GPPs.  I will probably have around 20 LUs this week, and he might be in 2.

Janikoski is STILL NOT A PLAYER TO TARGET.  There is a thing called chasing points in DFS, and last week Jani put up a big day.  In lineups I have already been seeing pop out in Slack, he is a player being added.  Sure at 4700 he seems like a great value, but remember this Jani has played in 5 games, and going into week 5 had ONLY KICKED four field-goals.  Sure he is up to 9 kicks now thanks to last weeks 5 kick game, but it is just plain dumb to roaster a kicker who has been in the perfect spot 5 weeks in a row, and only did anything in one of them.

Short Term Fade

Bailey is still on my fade list with his back.  He might be usable when in a soft match up at home, but I do not like him on the road.  He still has the chance to go off, but if he is playing hurt, his accuracy is going to suffer.  If he does have a hard time kicking from distance, he will need volume to make up for that.  This will be easier to get at home.

This fade might be the hardest one on me, but Gano is going on my short term fade list.  He is not getting kicks from long distances, he is not making those few he does get, and his numbers are way down.  Between the Def getting softer and the offense having its own struggles, Gano becomes too pricey of a risk for my taste.

Quick How to Pick a Kicker

  • Pick kickers on teams who are favored to win or be in close high scoring games.
  • Focus on kickers who have the ability to kick with high accuracy from long ranges.
  • Find kickers who are in domes or where weather is not an issue.
  • Worry about price last, focus on ability to score points first.
