DFS Army’s Kickers Corner

Welcome back everyone.  Hopefully you found that groove week 1 of the NFL and was able to pull out some big wins. I know in slack chat we had people on both sides of the spectrum, but that happens.  The real trust the process, and I hope that you keep looking at kickers in a new light.  Before we get into the review from last week, I want to point out that I will take 1-4 defenses that I really like for the week.  I will give a quick reason for the selection.  This is not a list where you have to stick to it, just some teams I like and why.

Review of Week 1

Week 1 is always filled with questions, but as long as we keep our minds open we often will get answers.  Before I look to week 2, I want us to look back at week 1’s results.  Going into the week my biggest questions were surrounding Kansas City, Seattle, and Dallas.  I just was not sure how they were going to move the ball regardless of what Vegas or match up said.  So lets see how those kickers did, plus all of the other kickers from last weeks article, pod, and those who did great, but were left off.

Bailey was a great surprise.  He proved himself by kicking everything that came in front of him.  I was worried about how Dallas was going to move the ball, but honestly when in the open field they looked great.  While the future should see Dak grow, leading to more TDs.  Either way Bailey will be more into the mix depending on match up.

Why Review

The review is not a chance to brag (well if I had done better at least).  Reviewing is important with kickers whether on your list or not because kickers tend to follow trends.  If you know what the person you want to select has done the last few weeks you are in a better spot to pick one who will continue to produce.  If you have a kicker in a game go off, and you see them in a similar situation it helps you grab them.  Even if they have not had good games in their last couple.

Figuring out teams in similar situations is not all that hard to do either.  While you are on the site simply use Geek’s Vegas Lines column to see what Vegas sees.  Remember that Vegas makes their money by following trends far better than just about anyone.  Geek’s Vegas Lines goes over game flow, and gives you all of the odds in one convenient place.  Use the game flow with current form, and you will be more than able to nail picking the right kicker in no time.

Quick How to Pick a Kicker

  • Pick kickers on teams who are favored to win or be in close high scoring games.
  • Pick kickers who have the ability to kick with high accuracy from long ranges.
  • Pick kickers who are in domes or where weather is not an issue.
  • Worry about price last, focus on ability to score points first.

For defenses this week I think we have 4 great targets, and a lot of punt options.  For me I am looking to the Panthers, NE, Broncos, Ravens.  I will have more notes out on these 4 tomorrow.  I will also put a link right here to the Kickers Pod Cast that should be recorded and released tomorrow.  I hope you enjoyed this week’s Kickers Corner, if you ever want advice you can either hit me up on Slack (VIP Only) or Twitter @dfsarmypvaaron.  Best of luck everyone, and may all of your kicks be game winners.
