NHL DFS Tournament Picks and Strategy | Snipes & Grinders, Projections for Fanduel and Draftkings 11/1/22

DFS NHL is a volatile sport centering around correlation, stacking and game theory.  Learning how to win cash games and tournaments requires nailing those great upside plays/stacks, grabbing obvious value, and making the proper fades that sink everyone else’s ships.  Let’s look through today’s slate and identify those winning picks in “Snipes and Grinders!”

All of my plays make sense for the entire DFS industry; however, if there is an egregious discrepancy in player salary between sites, I will mention it in my briefing.

Snipe = Good Play
Grinder = Value Plays (Grinders are Valuable)

DFS NHL Slate Overview:

NHL season is here! Check out all of our industry-leading content on dfsarmy.com, and if interested feel free to DM me personally and I’ll get your journey started. Remember, our mission is a process, we grow and learn every day; figure out what our competitors are doing, identify the correct plays, and calculate the correct ways to attack each slate. Every slate is different and can be attacked in different ways. We also have great tools to work with like the domination station (optimizer), the research station, chalk boards, as well as tons of coaches readily available in our discord.

Now – onto hockey

Big slate here with some high priced options, some backup goalies, and some unexpected high ceiling stacks. The Oilers and their big boys seem to be rolling, which makes McDavid/Draisaitl great cash plays, with slate breaking upside. I like Lightning, Wild, and Devils stacks as well. Tampa finds themselves at home against the Senators who love to surrender goals, and the Wild are in a similar situation at home against the Canadiens. Igor Shesterkin is my favorite cash goalie of the slate, and Thatcher Demko is my favorite tournament goalie; which means that he is super risky, but has a super high ceiling.

Correlated Snipe #1

Mark Stone – Jack Eichel – Chandler Stephenson

Stone and Eichel are finally getting some play-time together, and are quickly forming some nice chemistry. They have spent a lot of time in the offensive zone and have been peppering the opposition with shots. Chandler Stephenson is a swiss army knife and can play multiple positions, as well as up and down the lineup. The 3 also directly correlate on the powerplay as well. The Capitals as I write this are playing with Darcy Kuemper, so one would assume that the Golden Knights will face Charlie Lindgren. The Caps may also be without John Carlson, which is a big whole in their defense; not to mention the Capitals are a team full of old men that may struggle in back to backs this season. Overall, this is a great spot for Vegas.

Correlated Snipe #2

Roope Hintz – Jason Robertson – Joe Pavelski

Once again I am attacking a team on a back to back. Unfortunately, Jonathan Quick and Cal Petersen are both just average, so it’s not too much of a downgrade in net for the Kings. With that being said, they are still traveling from St Louis to Dallas; which equates to back to back tough teams on the road. The Stars and these 3 big boys play a no nonsense, straight ahead game which equates to tough games; especially in a back to back situation. They correlate on the powerplay, know what their strengths are, and have played almost 2 full years together now. Overall a nice spot for a high upside offense, that should be pretty low owned on a giant slate,

NHL Grinder Value Plays

Grinder #1

Fabian Zetterlund – Is shooting that puck for the Devils; and last i checked is on a line with Nico Hischier. He has started to heat up.

Grinder #2

William Karlsson – Super active player, 2nd line, 2nd powerplay unit, top penalty kill; will be out to finish games, and loves to shoot that puck.

Grinder #3

Frederick Gaudreau – The top line center for Kirill Kaprizov.

Grinder #4

Ryan Johansen – Has been on Nashville’s top line and powerplay unit. Could be in a crazy game against the Oilers. Matt Duchene is also too cheap.

Good luck, I hope you all come in 2nd.  😉
