Weekend Reflection
The intent of this article will focus on success in NASCAR and UFC tournaments from this past weekend. The goal of the research is to provide readers with an understanding of projections, optimizers and coach’s notes in order to help win tournaments.
Tournaments Played
- NASCAR (Main Slate 2/27/2022)
- UFC (Main Slate 2/26/2022)

Foundation for Attacking Tournaments
The approach was built off of the 300 lineup approach covered last week in the MMA GPP Article. The Following protocols were used for creating 300 UFC Lineups and modified for NASCAR this past weekend:
300 Tournament Lineups
For the purpose of this study, Marley’s cheat Sheet is used in order to execute the following steps:
- Marley 5 Star fight favorite fighter get’s a 😍
- Marley 4 Star fight favorite receives a ❤️
- Lock Marley favorite Fighter on the card 100%
- Full Fade the 2 fighters from the worse fight according to Cheat Sheet
- 50% max Exposure
- 0% Randomization
- 300 lineups
- 1 unique
UFC Variables/Results
There are variables to consider when unpacking the UFC slate from this past weekend:
-
- The STUD lock was Islam at 100%, and 2 full fades with Bobby Green/ Victor Altamirano.
- The player pool was brought down to 20 fighters as a result of the fades
- Result: taking down the mini max!
Real-time
This was the first real time test of using this approach (Backtesting previous), and it is promising to note that it took down a tournament in Trial #1 of real-time action. Furthermore, while the success in UFC led to the intrigue related to being able to create a transferrable approach across multiple sports in order to enhance out DFS practices.
Mini-Max Takedown!
Modified Approach to NASCAR
Upon the initial takedown of the UFC MME Mini-max, a door became open for exploring this approach in other sports. NASCAR is highly volatile, therefore the same approach was used for NASCAR with minor adjustments.
300 Tournament Lineups
Taco’s Cheat Sheet is used in order to execute the following steps:
- Fade duds using the Cheat sheet notes
- Player pool of 20-22
- Cap All ownership at 60% (15% highest projected own)
- 0% Randomization
- 300 lineups
- 1 unique
- No Locks
Discussion
While the unique number, number of lineups, and randomization were the same, it is important to analyze the differences:
Difference #1
First, there was not a lock as using the Adore and Heart feature to increase ownership on certain players. Also, it may not be best practice to start with a lock as any driver could crash at any time.
Difference #2
A larger fade list was utilized to remove 16 racers from the pool.
**Why?
Limiting the pool down to 20 confident options has shown to have a strong correlation with successful lineups according to Backtesting.
Difference #3
Racers were capped at 60%, which was found by identifying the racer with the highest projected ownership (44%), and elevated it by 16% in order to help get overweight on the studs without marrying one person.
Results
While a takedown of NASCAR did not take place, it was a successful outing in terms of profit. Finished 14th in the mini-max and generated a profit of roughly $250 (entered 300 but included a few of the best outcomes). Important to note that while there were minor adjustments, the process itself took about 30 minutes to execute as I was adjusting from an approach that was serving as the framework (UFC 300 ME Approach). If anyone can relate, the more efficient I am on time, the better I do in DFS as well as life.

Future Research
Likewise, additional research will take place on attacking NBA MME GPP tournaments. However, a majority of the research and Backtesting will be geared towards refining the UFC/NASCAR process in order to create a repeatable, transferrable and successful approach to attacking DFS. Therefore, be on the lookout for future articles related to taking down ME contests and turning a consistent profit in DFS.
