The Simple Six | DFS NFL Week 8 Leans for DraftKings and Fanduel

Welcome to week 8 of NFL action.  It is a slate featuring some big spreads.  The Rams are favored by 14.5 in Houston.  The Bills are favored 13.5 verse Miami and the Bengals (yes, the Cincinnati Bengals) are laying 10.5 on the road against the Jets.  These big numbers will affect our lineup decisions.  Cooper Kupp, Josh Allen and Ja’Marr Chase have all been fantasy studs, but do we want to pay up for them knowing their teams might be taking the foot off the gas in the 2nd half?

I’ve chosen to focus on the games that Vegas implies to be more competitive with my Simple Six, plays of the week.

1- Jalen Hurts, $7,200 on DraftKings

You can debate whether or not Jalen Hurts is a good real life quarterback.  The answer doesn’t matter for our purposes, because he is an elite fantasy option.  It may take garbage time, but he gets there every week.   Hurts is averaging 26.0 DK points, and his lowest score on the NFL season is a still respectable 21.8.  I don’t see his first dud of the season (and really his career as starter) coming indoors against Detroit.  In this spot with a 48 point total and 3.5 spread, Hurts has a cash game floor and GPP upside.

2- Dallas Goedert, $4,700 on DraftKings and $5,900 on Fanduel

This is a wide open tight end slate with no Kelce, Waller, or Mark Andrews to worry about.  Rookie Kyle Pitts is the highest priced TE ($6,300 on DK and $6,800 on FD).  I’ll happily pay down for Goedert and complete a stack with Hurts, my preferred QB.  Goedert didn’t exactly smash (3 grabs 70 yards) in his first game post Ertz, but he did play a season high 93% of snaps.  His previous best was only 74%.  He is very fairly priced in what could be a breakout spot.  DeVonta Smith ($5,500 on DK) is also a perfectly fine stacking partner with Hurts.

3- Jamal Agnew, $3,700 on DraftKings

My first two plays will likely be a bit chalky, so now it’s time to get a little weird.  Jags beat writer Demetrius Harvey tweeted a quote from coach Urban Meyer calling Jamal Agnew “our best separator.”  Meyer openly lusted after Kadarius Toney and then drafted Travis Ettiene.  He has always loved this speedy, gadget receiver type.  He now seems to be using career special teamer Jamal Agnew in that role.  He should probably just feature Laviska Shenault in this role, but old Urban hasn’t exactly been making good decisions lately.

In the two week since DJ Chark went out, Agnew has totaled 11 catches.  On a NFL slate without a ton of WR value that I love, Jamal Agnew is a sneaky play who should heavily involved in the Jacksonville gameplan.

4- Michael Pittman, $5,300 on DraftKings

There are two ways to look at Michael Pittman’s game log from Sunday night against the Niners.  You could be concerned that he received only 4 targets, or you be impressed that he efficiently turned those 4 targets (in a torrential rain storm) into 23.5 DK points.  I prefer the bullish view.

This game has the highest total on the slate (51) and is really fun to stack with good players, fairly priced on both sides.  The Titan secondary does not scare me.  Pittman is the number one receiver, on an improving offense, but at only $5,300, he’s not priced like it.

5- Damien Harris, $6,900 on Fanduel

In their last game before the bye the Chargers gave up 3 rushing touch downs to remarkably dusty combination of Lat Murry, Lev Bell, and Devonta Freeman.  Harris is starting to heat up, averaging 20.8 Fanduel points in his last two starts.  Bill Belichick will not want to be in a shootout with Justin Herbert.  He will instead look to control the clock with Harris.

We currently have Harris outside the top 15 highest owned running backs on Fanduel. DFS Army VIP members can use our Domination Station to monitor NFL ownership right up until kickoff.  There is no more useful tool in the industry for building lineups with tournament winning upside.  If Harris continues to project for low ownership, I will certainly have him in my GPP player pool.

6- Stefon Diggs, $7,300 on Fanduel

I couldn’t resist sneaking over a game with blowout potential once I saw Diggs’ price on Fanduel.  Even in a season that has been a mild disappointment thus far relative to his draft position, Stef Digg is averaging a respectable 9.7 targets and 6.2 per game.  Positive touch down regression is coming for Josh Allen’s top target.

Miami’s secondary is bad and banged up.  The 13.5 point spread doesn’t scare me as much as it would in other spots.  The Bills have shown a willingness to keep throwing, even when they have a comfortable lead.  With TE Dawson Knox out, Diggs has one less competitor for red zone targets.  This could be the week that Step Diggity finally puts up that elusive two TD performance..

Best of luck building those Sunday lineups.  If you can’t wait that long for NFL action there is a very interesting Showdown slate tonight with a Davante Adams less Green Bay visiting the undefeated Arizona Cardinals.  I would not even think about trying enter these contests without seeing what the Geek and company say in their Showdown video which will post this afternoon.  Make sure to keep an eye on the DFS Army YouTube Channel, for this and other great NFL videos.
