Darlington

This weekend the Truck and Xfinity Series will make their way to the historic Darlington Raceway.  The biggest story of the weekend will be that this is the first time the Truck Series has raced at Darlington since 2011. The racing surface is very abrasive which leads to high tire wear. This makes long run speed significantly important. Tires will be of massive importance late with teams willing to pit after just a few laps for new tires.  The main racing groove is up near the wall which leads to numerous drivers making some contact with the wall. This is known as the Darlington stripe which I am sure will be mentioned a time or fifty this weekend. Darlington is a very tricky track overall and should deliver great races for both series. Lastly, it is throwback week for NASCAR where most teams will run a special retro paint scheme. This has little to do with DFS but it does make this weekend really fun.

Xfinity Series

I chose a Denny Hamlin picture for this article because he will be the single most important driver of the race. To play chalk Denny starting last or not. He will cost $16,000 and should definitely be the favorite to win the race as well. It will be tough to make great lineups with him but his score might be enough to overcome that. He will be driving the #54 that Kyle Busch nearly won here with back in May. If you go the Hamlin route then you will have to really get lucky with picking multiple cheap punts to do well. If you avoid him then you need to hit on a couple of Drivers like Briscoe and Allgaier who both score a ton and then also have a deeper mid-tier group in your lineup that all score really well. It will be an interesting race. At least 1 dominator as a Domination Station setting for this race and this is with Denny marked as one.

RACE INFO

Dates: September 5th

Race: Saturday 12:30 pm ET.

Laps: 147 Stages: 45/90/147

Drivers: 37

Defending Champion: Chase Briscoe

AVG. # of Cautions: 5 excluding stage breaks

AVG DNF’s: 9 per race

Favorite Xfinity Series Play: Chase Briscoe

Chase led 45 laps en route to the win here in May. Starting 2nd, I believe that he has the ability to dominate early and rack up some points. I also fully expect him to finish top 3 and contend for the race win. Could be a great play for non-Denny Hamlin lineups but also a great partner to Denny as well.

Truck Series

The Truck Series will be making its way to Darlington for the first time since 2011. This means most of the drivers in the field will have very limited or zero experience on this ultra tricky track. For this reason, I will be focusing heavily on the experienced drivers in the field. We will have 3 Cup vets in the field this week that will all have a lot of attention on them. Greg Biffle will be in the 24 for GMS, Trevor Bayne in the 40 for Niece, and David Ragan will be in the 17 for DGR. They all will offer tons of place diff ability as well as experience at this track. I will really attack the place differential plays here which means I will have my DS setting for dominators as “at least 1”.

Quick Facts

Date: September 6th

Race: Sunday 2:00 pm ET.

Laps: 147  Stages: 45/90/147

Drivers: 37

Defending Champion: Kasey Kahne – 2011

Favorite Truck Series Play: Brett Moffitt

Big fan of Moffitt as our early dominator. He a decent amount of experience here including finishing 11th in the Xfinity race here in May. He starts on pole and should even contend for the win. This type of track is his specialty and I think he will be on the optimal lineup.
