Back To NFL Preseason Basics
When we are talking preseason NFL, there are a couple of fundamentals that everyone needs to learn and apply in order to have success. Building upon these fundamentals is how you begin to have success in this crazy time is how we can keep ourselves grounded and be in the best position to win gpps. The foundation will change slightly week by week as the Hall Of Fame slate will be played much differently than week 3 of the preseason. The foundation that you will want to build upon centers around: Playing time, the current weeks “meaning,” and the chemistry of the players.
1. Playing Time
We have a saying in here for NBA DFS and that is minutes=money. The same can be said for preseason NFL as well. We want to roster the players that will be on the field for the longest amount of time during each game and each week of the preseason. You are already asking yourself “how do we know who will be on the field the longest?” Well, that is what you have me for! And, here is your first fundamental tip, DO NOT roster a starter in the Hall of Fame game. I will have our VIP members in good hands for each week of the preseason. To coincide with playing time, it is important to study the depth charts of each team. We probably do not want to roster a QB from a team that has 5 QBs on their roster. The same can be said about each position on the offense. All these little clues add up, and for you busy people, you have me to break it down………provided you are a VIP and not relying on some simple, free and glossed over piece put out there to tell you as little as possible. You get depth in the Army!
2. Each Week’s “Meaning”
Each week in preseason NFL has its own “meaning.” Week 3 is what is known as the “dress rehearsal” game where most teams starters will play a drive or two into the 3rd quarter. So, this is the week we want to jump on the starters. However, we must first get to week 3 for that security of playing starters. For example, The Hall of Fame game will feature players trying to make the practice squad and or getting some highlight footage so that they may be signed to a different teams practice squad at the end of the preseason. 3. Chemistry
The chemistry between QBs and their WRs/TEs is not only important during the regular season, but is, if not more important in the preseason. These players are leaning on each other in order to make it or establish their role on an NFL roster. Knowing which players to stack and which players to avoid will be an edge that every DFS Army member will have this preseason. The amount of information can be overwhelming for most, that is why you have me… to help break down each and every slate of the preseason along with detailed coaches notes for those slates. HOF Game Sneak Preview
I am going to throw out some bones here for some of the players that could help you take down this HOF slate. If prices stay the same, we should see all players and positions priced the same. So with that being said, do not roster Matt Ryan or Julio Jones in this game. It amazes me to see how many people roster starters in this game.
Kurt Benkert– Safe play with upside here. Matt Schaub should not play a single snap in this game and I already touched upon Matt Ryan just above. Benkert is the developmental project here for the Falcons and is also their last QB on their depth chart. What does this mean? It means he will play the entire game. You cannot ask for more than that when it comes to playing time during the preseason.
Tony Brooks-James– is an electric running back on the Falcons. He will be battling for the last RB spot on this team. He has already impressed coaches with his speed and versatility. At Oregon, he averaged 6.6 yards per rush as well as averaging 9.8 yards per reception. He should get a lot of playing time in this game. Ollison is another RB to watch on the Falcons has Quinn has said he has the ability to be a 3 down back.
Khalfani Muhammad– Speed kills, especially in preseason. He should fly (no pun intended) under the radar on this slate. For those that do not know, Chad Johnson held a 40-yard dash competition and Khalfani was beaten in the semi-finals by Marquise Goodwin. It was not by much either and it would have been much closer if Khalfani had as good of a start as Goodwin had. This guy can make plays and he will be used as a pass-catching back as well. He will do a lot of damage and will rack up major points in this game.

Knowing who to draft and when to draft them is important.
