The Monster Energy Cup Series is in Charlotte for the second straight week. The All Star race gave us A LOT to be excited about heading into the longest race of the season, The Coke 600. At 600 miles and 400 laps this race is incredibly long and offers a ton of dominator points. Due to the length we will actually see 4 stages this race instead of the normal 3 we see every other race. The race starts during the day and will end late at night. There will be a significant transition from day to night with the biggest difference being the amount of laps cars can run wide open at the beginning of a run. As we saw recently at Kansas and late in the All Star race, the more grip the drivers have and the longer they can run wide open the more we will see the tight racing where the draft helps keep the drivers close.

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

This race generally has ultra long green flag runs leading to one driver dominating huge chucks of the race. However, with the new rules package this should change things up a bit. I expect 2-4 dominators for this race. I really like Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick early and often though with Harvick being the favorite heading into the night time. Harvick looked amazing during the All Star race especially late in the race and was certainly the best at moving forward. Chase Elliott has been very good as of late and Hendrick Motorsports has gotten attention from both Kyle Busch and Keselowski regarding their speed the last month or so.

Mid to Low Tier

Given my belief that we will see multiple dominators at the highest of prices this week you will likely need to find some strong value in the lower tier. Drivers like Chris Buescher who has been a fantastic on restarts this year, Matt Dibenedetto who has shown top 15 speed at times and Bubba Wallace who had a good showing in the All Star event last week come to mind. If you want to play a 2 dom strategy then guys like Blaney, Hamlin and Jones all make great plays in the upper mid tier.

Punts

Ultra long race without many DNFs means the upside for punts isn’t very good. However, if we do end up with 3 or even 4 high priced drivers dominating taking those drivers will likely be more important. This means playing a punt to save some money is a good strategy for this race.
