DFS NBA Lineup Strategies – Blande’s 6th Man – Draftkings and Fanduel Advice Jan 8th

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande . I’m a contributor and coach over here at the DFS Army. If you are not yet a member, we have something special for you right now. Use the link here and promo code “NEWYEAR” to get 20% off your subscription.

Today brings us another 8-game slate with a lot of studs on board. We will need quite a bit of value today in order to fit as many of them as possible. While the slate has some ready built-in value in the starting lineups due to injuries, there are some gems waiting to be unearthed from the bench. Not all the gems on the bench are value plays, there are some excellent mid-range players on there who could explode today. Let’s take a look at the top 6th Men today.

Before we dive in, It is Q Season and we already have two staff members in the Live Q, what are you waiting for?

And here is the second one! Join us now and get access to the tools and coaches that can get you there!

CORE PLAYS

Lou Williams – SG – (6800/6800): Sweet Lou continues to perform, and as regular readers are well aware by now, I’ll continue rostering him as long as his price is below 7k. Williams gets a nice matchup here against the Hornets. Even if Lamb who is questionable returns tonight, I still like this spot for Williams. The guy can score, averaging 35.6 DKPs in 28.1 MPG over his last 5. He’s a core play for me on both sites.

Bogdan Bogdanovic – SG – (6500/5900): Yesterday I called out the price mismatch on Bogdanovic on DK. Today, DK has tried to rectify that a little bit. Even so, for the matchup, Bogdanovic is still too cheap. As we saw last night, Bogdan will play no matter what the situation. For someone averaging 36.3 DKPs in his last 5 games, the price on both sites is cheap, making him a core play today.

Montrezl Harrell – PF – (7600/6200): ALERT! ALERT! We have another price mismatch today. Harrell is priced at a ridiculous 6.2k on DK. For someone who has put up 30+ Fpts in 6 of his last 10 games, with a high-water mark of 48, this price is too low. Especially given the matchup against the Hornets. Without Cody Zeller, Biyombo and Hernangomez have been filling in and the matchup is better suited for Harrell today. I like the upside he brings to the table here.

Aaron Holiday – SG – (3500/3100): Holiday is a core play today IF Darren Collison and Cory Joseph are out. In this scenario, he’ll be called on to play 20+ minutes, and he has performed well in this situation in the past. Holiday is extremely cheap and makes for the perfect drop-score candidate on FD in this scenario.

GPP PLAYS

Derrick Jones Jr. – SF – (3900/4300): Jones Jr. has been playing well recently off the bench. He’s getting minutes in the low 20 range and has produced some good games for his price. He is just 3.9K on DK, making him an excellent drop-score candidate. As for the matchup, there is some potential for Jones Jr. to see good minutes here due to this being a Mah score game. He makes for a nice GPP target on FanDuel.

Fred VanVleet – PG – (5400/5000): VanVleet might be relegated back to the bench, but he makes for an interesting play here. It’s difficult to see how the Hawks keep this game competitive against this Raptors team with almost everyone back. While we don’t predict blowouts, we can try to utilize some of the game theory in GPPs. If the game gets out of hand, VanVleet could see increased run here, more than the 25 minutes he is already expected to see. This makes him a very good GPP play on both sites against a poor Hawks team.

Kelly Oubre Jr. – SF – (3800/3900): IF Devin Booker misses this game, minutes and usage will be open. One of the beneficiaries to this will be Kelly Oubre Jr. Oubre has been a massive disappointment of late, making him a GPP play only. To be honest, I’m more comfortable with him on FD as my designated drop-score candidate if Booker is out.

Dario Saric – PF – (3600/3900): With the coaching change in Minnesota, Saric might be in line to see a bump in minutes, as the team focuses on developing its younger core. We all know what Saric can do when given the opportunity, something he just wasn’t getting under Thibs. We will have to wait to see what the rotation looks like going forward, but if you want to anticipate and catch the change while Saric is still near min-priced, this is a good spot as any to do it in. He’s a nice drop-score candidate tonight.
