Anthony’s DFS NHL Coaching Notes – Jan 2

Anthony is one of our lead NHL coaches and operates primarily from our coaching channels.  You do have access to his Player Picks page over at dfsarmy.com, but you often miss his adjustments through the day as the hockey slate evolves.

As a Lite member, we can bring you access to every article, tool, and most updates; however, we cannot bring you the real value of our community….the real-time coaching.  Our coaching delivers breaking news, confirmations, injury updates, and the predicted impacts to teammates when value suddenly opens across a slate.  As this news slowly ripples through the industry, our coaches have you locked and loaded often before Twitter can even update its followers.   Not to mention the education our VIPs receive through discussing game theory, cash fundamentals, bankroll management and contest selection.

Anthony’s Jan 2 Hockey Notes

Good evening and welcome to our first “real” slate of the year and Its going to be an interesting one. My players list is up and there is so many ways to go. With no clear smash spots tomorrow ill try and spread myself out and focus on high floor for my core and I’ll take a little risk on my value plays.

Let’s start by the value plays. I’m really not sure about Rattie to be honest. He just didn’t look good even if he took 3 SOG. Leivo, Neal, Galchenyuk have all been showing upside and just like Leddy the other night I want to buy low on them. Not that they will reach stupid prices, but they are still cheap. Leivo had a couple of shitty games but this match up vs Ottawa is a good one for him. Neal, 13 SOG L4 games but don’t get fooled his last 2 games were nothing to write about however he gets a nice match up vs DET and I’m expecting his line to face Larkin’s line which have allowed 5 goals in the last 7 games. Galchenyuk collected 1 pt or more in his last 5 games and most of those points have been on the PP and EDM has the WORST PK in the league on the road.

As mentioned I’m still not 100% sure how ill attack this slate however my initial thoughts are on paying up at D. When we look at SJ’s DD’s and Letang’s pricing vs their floors it’s really hard to get that elsewhere. Barrie and Edler are other options. Edler is warming up and I wish I could fit 4 D’s on this slate.

At the center position Crosby is my top guy. McJesus is in a tough spot vs on of the best D and PK team and since mid-December he’s had 5 games with only 1 sog. Something is up. Faksa is risky but he has a nice match up vs NJ and Blackwood is projected. Faksa is a personal pick based on what I saw vs the Habs. He really played well and he took 7 sog. Stephan is a little safer, I’ve been fading him most of the year…nothing to be excited about however just like Chucky I like the match up. Whatever you decide to do at center will determine the rest of your build. If you go Malkin-Stepan you will only have 1 punt in your line up however if you go with Crosby-Stepan you’ll need to fit 2 punts.

On the wings Gaudreau is a player I initially had to have but its tough. With no value at Defense and the need to pay up its tough to pay up on the wings. Also, there’s not much to get excited on the wings. COL1 is in a bad match up and they are the most expensive wingers. The rest are all in the 6k’s.. So apart from Gaudreau and Stone all the rest of expensive (6k’s) wingers have lower floors in the last 2 weeks vs their season average hence most on this slate are a little overpriced. At 5.8K, Boeser is my favourite winger. He’s been up and down lately however this matchup is just too good for him.

At Defense Burns will definitely be in my line up. As for the rest it will be decide tomorrow. It can either be Burns-Karlsson-Letang, Burns-Letang-Edler or Burns, Barrie-Edler. In a nut shell there are high chances I’ll be going with 3 top tier D’s.

In nets it’s going to be a shit show again. I have Murray for now because of my love for Pittsburgh but it can also be Bishop due to his amazing numbers at home. Dallas is really due, but NJ won 3 in a roll and even without Hall they’ve looked good. One more note on this game. Blackwood is projected to start, and he can either take down a GPP or ruin you for weeks. Dallas has been averaging over 40 SOG in the last 2 games while NJ has allowed close to 40 SOG to CAR And BOS.

Ill be back tomorrow with some final notes. (edited)

The results of late breaking news speak for themselves.  Our Week 17 NFL winners all used our coaching channel updates before lock to finalize their selections….including one of our resident contributors, Burns, who knocked down $15,000 with his 6th place finish in the Milly Maker!!  Content and tools are great, but live question/answer coaching is where the rubber really meets the road!
