DFS College Basketball Winning Lineup Advice for Main Slate CBB on Fanduel 11/16/2018

Good morning to you beautiful people out there in DFS land!  You have managed to find yourself in a great spot here at DFS Army.  I look forward to providing you with analysis and picks throughout this 2018-2019 CBB season!  Remember, if I mention a player and do not point out which site it means that my preference is the site where he is cheaper.  Let’s take a look at what games are on the main slate for Fanduel this evening.  The KenPom score projections are in parenthesis.

Georgetown (78) vs Loyola Marymount (72)

St Johns (74) vs Rutgers (71)

Mississippi (69) vs Butler (79)

Louisiana Tech (73) vs LSU (82)

Wofford (70) vs Stanford (76) – EDIT – GAME CANCELLED

GEORGETOWN vs LOYOLA MARYMOUNT

Georgetown as a team is very disciplined as they rarely have turned the ball over to begin the season.  On the defensive end, they block about 6% more shots than the average division 1 team while they rarely send their opponents to the FT line.  When you add in that they assist on about 61% of their made shots, you can see there is value in a handful of Hoyas in this one.  Govan is normally one of my favorite plays, however, at this point, he is just a regular GPP play to me thanks to a lower than expected floor.  My favorite play is Akinjo as he has 7 assists in each of the first three games and should be able to pick up a few steals in this one.  I think that McClung is definitely in play for GPPs at just $5000, while I am slightly afraid of LeBlanc at his price tag even though I love what he brings to the floor.

While Georgetown will speed teams up on the defensive end, LMU likes to take their time and slow the ball down when they are on offense.  This is a contrasting style, which in theory should give Georgetown fewer possessions than they are accustomed to.  The two best players for LMU, Batemon, and Markusson, are both in play for cash and GPPs on this slate.  They eat up so much of the usage for this team that I do not see a path to flops.  Quintana seems safe to get you 18-20 fantasy points without much upside.  McClendon, Gipson, and Z.Williams strike me as the last man in if they fit type GPP plays for this slate.

ST JOHNS vs RUTGERS

St Johns is one of the fastest teams in the country, however, they do not turn that speed into attacking as they are one of the lowest teams in terms of getting to the FT line.  On the defensive end they commit quite a few fouls and allow opposing teams to get to the FT line quite often, however, they are aggressive and pick up a steal on over 14% of defensive possessions.  This team is lead by two men who I really want pieces of for GPPs and for cash.  Those two men are Ponds and Herron.  Figueroa is a very nice GPP piece at just $5600 and is tasked with hitting the glass as a guard.  Marvin Clark is a GPP gamble that should have his minutes and role solidified with the injury to Keita.

Rutgers is a very fast team in their own right and they use that to their advantage as they are leading the nation in 3 point shooting while also grabbing an absurdly high 42.6% of their own misses on the offensive end.  Rutgers has an elite block rate, which is interesting in this one as St Johns is yet to have a shot blocked on the season, and they refuse to send their opponents to the FT line.  Omoruyi is my preferred play from Rutgers as his defensive stats give him a nice floor while offering a solid upside against a team lacking a ton of size.  Baker seems like an unspectacular but solid cash game play on this slate.  I like Ron Harper Jr and M.Johnson as solid mid-range GPP plays.  I have some interest in Doorson as a cash play at just $4100.

MISSISSIPPI vs BUTLER

Ole Miss has played just one game so far this season so their KenPom stats are a bit skewed.  In the one game so far, Ole Miss managed to force Western Michigan to turn the ball over on one-third of their possessions.  Terence Davis is definitely Ole Miss’ best player and while normally I would want some exposure, I think his price tag is too high for this slate as I want to prioritize other top players.  Tyree is the Rebels player that I want in my GPP/cash lineups.  When it comes to the forwards from Ole Miss, I look at Buffen as a mediocre cash option, while I really like Olejniczak as a player due to his size and defensive ability for just $4200.

Butler is an extremely efficient team that is shooting a whopping 73% from 2 point range through two games.  This team is lead by Kamar Baldwin who has his hand in nearly 36% of the team’s possessions.  The one knock on Kamar is that he gets a little loose with his handle and can turn it over.  I am sure one of Jorgensen and Brunk will pay off their price tags, however, I just can’t suggest them at their elevated salaries.

LOUISIANA TECH vs LSU

Louisiana Tech picked up a nice win against Wichita St to start the season.  They manage to get to the FT line quite a bit while also being very adept at crashing the offensive glass.  The big issues for LaTech are that they are an undersized team who turns the ball over quite a bit.  Archibald is an elite rebounder for being just 6’3″ and he draws a ton of fouls while taking roughly 25% of the shots when he is on the floor.  You could do a lot worse for $6700 than Archibald.  We will need to pay attention to the status of Bracey as when he played in the first game, he put up nearly 41% of the shots while he was on the floor.  Should he not play in this one, D.Jean becomes a decent play at just $4100.  Pemberton is an interesting play at $4400 and would very much be in play if Bracey were to miss.  I do have some GPP interest in Duruji as a flyer as he is coming off of a very solid game.

LSU is an efficient offense that is deadly from in the paint while being elite level at attacking the offensive glass and shooting FTs.  They are an aggressive defense that manages to pick up a fair number of steals, however, they allow their opponents to shoot it pretty well.  This team is loaded with young, highly rated recruits.  I think Waters is a great GPP play at his price and I am going back to Naz Reid after he let me down big time against Memphis.  You will not see me with any Mays at that absurd $6800 price point.  I am a huge fan of Smart, however, there is just zero upside at his price.  Through 3 games it appears that if Reid has an off-game, then Emmitt Williams picks up for him and returns solid value.  I think it makes sense to hedge Reid exposure with a couple shares of Williams in GPPs.

WOFFORD vs STANFORD

Editor’s Note – While I love that you are loving the coverage Razzle provides, he wanted me to jump in here and notify you all that this Wofford/Stanford game has been cancelled.  Our VIPs tend to get this news first.  Consider becoming one for the latest pivots, plays, and how this cancelled game changes the complexion of the slate.  Get the edge!

Wofford is one of the slowest teams in the country who shoots more threes than twos and struggles to get to the foul line.  The nice thing is we have a guy on their team who takes 36% of the shots when he is on the floor in Fletcher Magee.  His three-point shooting would be more rewarding to us on DK, however, I think he is a fine GPP play.  My preferred play is Cameron Jackson as he seems extremely safe at his price point.  If you are looking to find another member of Wofford to slide into GPPs, you could do worse than Storm Murphy, who could see an uptick in scoring should Magee struggle.

Stanford takes over 70% of their shots from inside the three-point line, which right away makes me love KZ Okpala yet again.  He is going to be one of my top overall plays on the FD slate this evening.  Cormac Ryan is a very solid cash game play at $7000 and he does offer enough upside at that price to make him playable in GPPs.  I am a big Da Silva fan and one of these nights he is going to explode for a 20 and 12 line with a couple blocks and steals.
